The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that routine grading would be done on Dent County Roads 545, 546, 623, 646, and 657B and brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 549 and 550. The rest of the District 1 crew would be hauling rock to the crusher. Simpson also said that he is waiting on proposals from CAT and John Deere for repair work on a loader. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done north of town on Dent County Roads 333 and 406 and also on various roads in the Lenox area. Tune also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 238 and rock would be hauled to the crusher. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that a special meeting will be held Tuesday, November 6^th at 7:00 at the City Hall to update citizens on where the county is on rural addressing, and a representative from Spacial Data Research will be on hand to answers any questions. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the Health Center was interested in setting up a flu shot clinic in the courthouse to offer county employees the chance to get a flu shot for $20.00. The Commission agreed, and the clinic will be held Monday, November 5^th. Rob Heberer from Erb Equipment attended the meeting to present to the commission a proposal for a wheel loader. The proposal is for two years for $121,500, and at the end of two years, the county would have the option to purchase the wheel loader for $91,500 or Erb Equipment would buy it back at that same price. Joe Lato also attended the meeting to discuss with Commissioner Tune what he needs to do about digging a water line across Dent County Road 318. Tune explained that he would need to contact the county before he digs, so proper signs can be set up and to fill the ditch back in with chat. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

On October 24^th at 10:34 in the evening, while on routine patrol a Dent County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle crossing the centerline and driving off the right side of the pavement. The vehicle was stopped at Route K and Highway 19 South. The investigation led to the Salem Police Department K-9 Unit being called. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle. Taken into evidence were a wooden dug out containing a green leafy matter, a metal smoking device with burnt residue and two packs of rolling papers. The 20-year old driver was issued citations for failure to maintain financial responsibility, and failure to maintain on the right half of the roadway. A 21-year old male passenger was issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.  On October 25^th, while on routine patrol the Dent County Sheriff’s deputies came in contact with a 21-year old male at the intersection of Highway 19 and Dent County Road 508A. Upon identifying the subject, he produced a marijuana cigarette and a citation was written for possession of marijuana.

Hundreds of local children will illuminate the streets on Halloween with special glow-in-the-dark treat buckets distributed by The Doe Run Company. Each bucket was packed with a brochure on trick-or-treating safety tips compiled by a team of Doe Run of safety experts and local police officers. More than 5,000 buckets were distributed. All of Doe Run’s divisions participated in sharing tips and treats with community children. The Buick Resource Recycling Division (BRRD) distributed buckets to preschool through third-grade students in Salem, and the Southeast Missouri Mining & Milling Division (SEMO) partnered with the Viburnum Police Department to hand out buckets to pre-school through fourth-grade students in Viburnum, and preschool through sixth-grade students in Bunker. Among the safety tips were suggestions for parents on discussing basic safety issues with their children and addressing topics such as vandalism.

The Missouri Foundation for Health, (MFH) established in 2000, is the largest non-governmental funder of community health activities in Missouri. MFH is in its sixth year of grant making, having issued more than $240 million in grants and award to date. Eight local county health departments are sharing $932,115, thanks to a special funding effort by MFH. These grants fund infrastructure improvements so that the departments can improve delivery of health services in their respective communities. Crawford County will receive a grant of $100,257 and the funds are being used for needed renovations and to purchase new equipment and furniture for the health department. Dent County will receive $81,674 and the department is improving services to clients by upgrading its technology and communication equipment. The Phelps/Maries County Health Department will receive $157,339 and they will use the funding from the grant to upgrade its computers and office equipment.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at the Scottrade Center starting at 7:30. The Blues have won two of their last three and three of their last five games. You can hear the contest on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that all members of their 2007 coaching staff under manager Tony La Russa will return for the 2008 season. Pitching coach Dave Duncan, first base coach Dave McKay, third base coach Jose Oquendo, bullpen coach Marty Mason, bench coach Joe Pettini and hitting coach Hal McRae will return in the same functions next year.

St. Louis Rams guard Richie Incognito is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a dislocated right kneecap. Running back Steven Jackson, who missed the previous four games with a partially torn groin, left Sunday's contest with tightness in his lower back. Quarterback Marc Bulger has a bruised throwing hand, but x-rays taken showed no break.

Funeral services for Juttie Maynard of Boss, age 94, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time Wednesday. Interment will be Thursday at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in St. Charles.

Funeral services for Bernice Graham of Salem, age 82, will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Funeral services for Luther Lewis Tucker of Bunker, age 80, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Bay Cemetery in Bunker.

Funeral services for Wayne E. King of Potosi, formerly of Steelville, age 76, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.
