The Dent County Commission met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5600, 6070 and 6080, while materials would be added and grading done on county road 5060. Purcell indicated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5110 and a man would be stockpiling rock at the county shed. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Roads 3180, 3193, 3195 and 4040, while just materials would be added to county road 2070. Larson did say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 4380. Larson also said that he attended the 4-H Awards Banquet and Recognition Night Saturday night at the Indian Trails Archery on Highway 19 North. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting held last Thursday in St. James and it was a re-organizational meeting. Skiles stated that Ron Smith of Rolla was elected the new chairman of the committee and Tabitha Stanfast from the Salem Memorial District Hospital was elected as vice-chair. Later in the meeting, Frank Hobson and Glen Durnbaugh brought in a petition with 28 signatures to establish a speed limit of 25 mph on Dent County Road 2150. They also requested that the county erect “Children at Play” road signs on county road 2150 as many families have small children on the road. The commissioners approved the request for the speed limit and also the posting of the signs for the children at play. The county was going to take phone bids for 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel. Jason Sivils from Great Rivers Associates came in to talk about the low water crossing inventory in the county. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission would be Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Tuesday, October 15th at 10:21 in the morning, an officer was detailed to D.C.A.I. housing project located on Missouri in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took tools valued at $35. On Wednesday, October 16th at 12:53 in the early morning, an officer was contacted in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 25-year old Rolla male had assaulted a 35-year old Salem female and took items, valued at $750, from her residence in the 800 block of South Carty. Later that morning at 5:45, an officer was contacted in reference to a stolen vehicle. The Salem Police Department had received information of a traffic crash that happened at 4:10 a.m. about two miles west of St. James on Highway BB that involved a gray 2000 Chevrolet extended cab truck. It was found that the driver, a 25-year old Rolla male had taken the truck without permission and it was the truck that was reported stolen. He was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center and then to the University Medical Center in Columbia due to injuries sustained during the crash. Arrest warrants are pending. Later that morning at 11:00, an officer was detailed to Crawford County to transport a 34-year old Newburg female to the Dent County Jail on an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. She was extradited and incarcerated. On Friday, October 18th at 10:05 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 27-year old Salem male who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant at the Associate Circuit Court on East Fifth and later released with a new court date after posting bond. Later that night at 11:37, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1500 block of South Water in reference to a dog that sounded like it was in distress. The investigation revealed that a dog was hanging from a wire from a back porch of a residence suspended above the ground. An officer released the dog from the wire and found that the dog had no shelter, food, or water and it was raining. The officer took possession of the dog and it was transported to the animal shelter for care. The owner of the dog, a 24-year old Salem male, was located and issued a summons to appear in court for cruelty to animals. Roadwork will take place in Dent County on Route B from now until Friday, November 8th. The work will consist of roadway maintenance between Highway 19 and Highway 72. Jon Lester retired 12 straight at one point Monday and the Boston Red Sox scored twice in the seventh to take a pivotal 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright fanned 10 over seven frames and was charged with three runs on eight hits and one walk. The series shifts back to Boston for Game 6 on Wednesday, with Michael Wacha squaring off against John Lackey in a rematch of Game 2 won by the Cardinals rookie. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO at 6:00.

Seattle's defense came up with a goal-line stand in the final seconds, which allowed the Seahawks to sneak out of St. Louis with a 14-9 victory. The Rams and veteran backup Kellen Clemens, who made his 13th career NFL start, started from their own 3-yard line with 5:42 to play. Clemens led St. Louis down to the Seattle 1-yard line. Rams running back Daryl Richardson was stopped on third down, and Clemens followed with an incomplete pass to Brian Quick as time expired. Clemens was called into duty after Sam Bradford suffered a torn ACL. He connected on 15- of-31 passes for 158 yards and two interceptions. The Rams will host the Tennessee Titans this Sunday at noon.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Winnipeg Jets tonight at the Scottrade Center. The Blues are 6-1-2 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM starting at 6:30.

Funeral services for Howard Eugene Adair of Rolla, age 86, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery with full military honors.

Funeral services for Doris Ann Cottrell of Davisville, age 67, will be held Thursday at11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Dillard.

Funeral services for Mary Frances Rogers of Rolla, age 75, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ridgeview Christian Church or the Gasconade Christian Service Camp.

Funeral services for Jack Reese Lewis, Jr. of Salem, age 55, will be held Saturday at 12:00 (noon) at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Pine Lawn Cemetery in Houston. Memorials may be made to the family.

Memorial services for Veda R. Dowd of Rolla will be held privately at a later date with family and friends. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Memorial service for Gary M. Broyles of Rolla will be held Sunday, November 17th at 2:00 at the Conference Center at the Comfort Suites in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
