In closed session Thursday morning, the Dent County Commissioners and the City of Salem Board of Aldermen voted to offer Dent County Fire Protection District Fire Chief Brad Nash the Dent County Emergency Management Director’s position, and offer Salem Police Officer Allen Kimrey the Assistant Emergency Management Director position. Both men had applied for the director’s position. The meeting was then adjourned. Nash has accepted the offer and will take over duties from the current Emergency Management Director Jack Emery on November 1st. Officer Kimrey has not yet accepted the offer for the assistant’s position as of 3:00 Friday afternoon.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving active warrants, and assaults. On October 13th at 4:41 in the afternoon, an office made contact with a 47-year old Salem male that had an active warrant from Dent County. He was placed under arrest on the warrant and released to Dent County where he was incarcerated. On October 16th at 1:55 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Shannon County jail in reference to a warrant extradition. A 30-year old male from Greenville, Illinois was transported from the Shannon County jail to the Dent County jail on a City of Salem warrant. On October 18th at 6:33 in the evening, an officer was sent to Carolyn’s Discount Grocery in reference to an assault. The report revealed that a 17-year old Salem male had assaulted a 15-year old Salem male. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court and released On October 20th at 9:15 in the evening an officer was detailed to the 600 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a domestic disturbance. The report revealed that a 48-year old Salem male had assaulted a 46-year old Salem female. The report led to his arrest and he was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On October 21st at 10:50 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of East Hawkins in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 28-year old Salem female, a 39-year old Salem male, a 44-year old Salem female and a 27-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. They were issued summons to appear in court and released. On October 22nd at 10:15 in the morning, an officer was sent to the 700 block of East Center in reference to a three year-old child walking in the street. The report led to the arrest of a 20-year old female on two fugitive warrants from Wayne County and the Piedmont Police Department and a City of Salem warrant. She was unable to post bond on the warrants and was incarcerated in Dent County. On October 24th at 10:36 in the morning, an officer contacted a 19-year old Salem male in reference to an active City of Salem warrant. He was taken into custody and incarcerated on the warrant. An accident happened Friday morning at 11:20 in Maries County on Highway 63 about a half mile south of Vichy. According to the highway patrol report, a 1984 International Tractor Trailer driven northbound by 51-year old Steven Sutton of Salem, lost control on a curve and overturned in the ditch. Sutton suffered minor injuries and was taken by the Ozark Central Ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Sutton was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident and the International was totaled. It was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing.

The Salem Airport Board will be meeting tonight at 7:00 at the city hall council chambers and the meeting is open to the public.

Cody Wofford scored on runs of 44 yards and six yards and threw a TD pass to Jordan Thompson as the Salem Tigers rolled to their fifth straight win, 27-6 over Buffalo. Justin Davis raced for 116 yards on 15 carries and also scored a touchdown for Salem is now 5-4 on the year and 2-0 in the district. The Tigers travel to Ava for the final regular season and district game Friday night at 7:00.

Derek Anderson threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Braylon Edwards, lifting the Cleveland Browns over the injury-riddled St. Louis Rams, 27-20, at the Edward Jones Dome. Marc Bulger completed 24-of-36 passes for 310 yards, with one touchdown and one interception for the Rams (0-8), who suffered their eighth consecutive defeat to extend the worst start in franchise history. Torry Holt led the Rams with six catches for 110 yards and one touchdown.

Chase Daniel threw for 250 yards and Jeremy Maclin ran for and caught a touchdown as 13th-ranked Missouri downed Iowa State, 42 to 28, in Big 12 action Saturday. Daniel was an efficient 28-of-37 with one touchdown and one interception, while Tony Temple led a well-distributed rushing attack with 40 yards and a score. Maclin finished with seven catches for 65 yards and a touchdown and Martin Rucker hauled in seven passes for 66 yards for the Tigers. Missouri will be at Colorado on Saturday.

Brad Boyes scored a pair of goals as the St. Louis Blues edged the Washington Capitals, 4 to 3 at Scottrade Center Saturday night. Eric Brewer and Christian Backman also tallied, while Paul Kariya had a pair of assists for the Blues, who have won two of their last three games. Manny Legace finished with 23 saves. The Blues will host Phoenix on Tuesday night.

Mike Lowell and Bobby Kielty both homered, and Jon Lester pitched brilliantly into the sixth inning as the Boston Red Sox edged the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, to win the 2007 World Series. David Ortiz and Jason Varitek both added run-scoring singles for the Red Sox, who finished a four-game sweep of the Rockies and became just the fourth franchise in Major League Baseball history to record sweeps in consecutive World Series appearances. Lowell hit .400 with a homer and four RBI during the four games, earning series MVP honors. Lester (1-0), who underwent chemotherapy less than a year ago to cure cancer, hurled 5 2/3 scoreless innings.

Funeral services for Paul Edward Griffin of Steelville, age 79, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Briton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 today. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Steelville Ambulance.

Funeral services for Melba June Stewart of Salem, age 66, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Polk Cemetery in Reynolds.

Funeral services for Juttie Maynard of Boss, age 94, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time Wednesday. Interment will be Thursday at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in St. Charles.

Funeral services for Bernice Graham of Salem, age 82, will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
