The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5170, 5390 and 5615, while brush would be cut on county road 5610. Purcell stated full service would be done on county truck #115 and another operator would be screening brown rock at the shed. Same Gorman gave the District 2 report for Gary Larson who was not at the meeting and said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2090 and 3330 while materials would be added to and grading done on county road 4290. He said brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2510 and crews would be sweeping off chip and seal road 3270. Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported he attended a Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting last week. He said that Commissioner Larson would now be the primary member and Skiles would now be the alternate. He said Chairman Ron Smith and Vice Chairman Tabitha Stanfast were elected to a committee to recommend the distribution of $580,000 in state funds. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said the voting machines would be tested today at 11:30 and the last day to mail out an absentee ballot would be this Wednesday. She said her office will be open from 8:00 AM until noon Saturday for anyone who wants to vote absentee and you must have a reason, and the final day to vote absentee will be Monday at 5:00 at the courthouse. The commission held an amended budget hearing for the Senior Citizens Service Fund to recognize a $5,000 SMTS grant as income and to expense that amount as well as it is spent. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, October 10th at 1:07 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 45-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $26.74. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 6:24 that evening, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Bixby male for stealing merchandise valued at $49.88. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same night at 7:51, an officer was again dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $40.56. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That same night at 10:23, an officer was dispatched to Texas County to transport a 36-year old male of Summersville to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. And that same night at 11:23, an officer made contact with a 17-year old male and an 18-year old male, both of Salem, who were intoxicated. They were taken into custody for minor in possession of intoxicants and further investigation revealed the two had stolen alcohol from Walmart and also had given it to juveniles. The two were issued summonses for minor in possession of intoxicants, stealing, and endangering the welfare of a child and released. On Saturday, October 11th at 3:12 in the afternoon, an officer responded to County Mart in reference to a bad check. The investigation led to the arrest of a 50-year old Malden male for passing a bad check on two counts, totaling $1,656. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. That night at 8:56, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 500 block of East Center in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that someone hit a door with an unknown object several times causing $300 in damage. And that same night at 11:35, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem female for possession of methamphetamine, possession of benzodiazepines, and on an active fugitive warrant from Franklin County. She was incarcerated pending the application for warrants and a court appearance. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage report, which is still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem present, The Music & Magic of Christmas” Parade on Saturday, December 6th beginning at 5:30 pm. The parade route will run from the old fairgrounds at the corner of South Grand & Franklin to the Dent County Courthouse. Those wishing to participate in the parade will need to fill out an entry form and those forms are due back no later than Friday, November 28th. No ATV’s are allowed in the parade. Be sure and pick up a form, fill it out, and then return to 200 South Main or faxed to (573) 729-6741. Line up positions will be available on Thursday, December 4th. The 2014 Trees and Trains Exhibit will again be at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South Main Street in Salem and will run from November 24th through December 24th this year. The St. Louis Blues will be at the American Airlines Center in Dallas tonight to face the Stars. The Blues are 3-3-1 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 7:00.

Game 6 of the 2014 World Series will be held tonight at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City between the Royals and San Francisco Giants. The Giants lead the series 3-2 and are one win away from winning their third World Series in five years. Rookie Yordano Ventura will once again take the mound for the Royals opposite the Giants veteran Jake Peavy. First pitch is set for 7:07 tonight.

Funeral services for Virginia Lee Stewart of Salem, age 80, will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Empire Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Empire Cemetery.

Funeral services for Cecil King of Rolla, age 92, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens.

Funeral services for Tison Gordon of Bunker, age 12, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the Bunker High School Gym. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bunker Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker.

Funeral services for Clarence Junior Taylor of Salem, age 88, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Wayne Roberts of Salem, age 84, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Irene McKinley of Steelville, age 81, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville.

Memorial services for Michael Scott Cramer of Salem, age 38, will be held Tuesday, November 4th at 7:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Memorial visitation will be held on November 4th from 5:00 to 7:00. There will be no interment. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
