An accident occurred at 12:55 Saturday afternoon in Reynolds County that took the life of a 12-year old Bunker boy. According to the highway patrol report, 14-year old Alexander Gordon of Bunker was driving a 2007 Ford pickup south on Route TT about six miles north of Reynolds when he ran off the roadway, down an embankment, and overturned. An occupant, 12-year old Tison Gordon of Bunker, was partially ejected and was later pronounced dead at the scene by Reynolds County Coroner Jeffrey McSpadden. The driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to the Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Suffering moderate injuries was another occupant, 16-year old Gregory Barton of Bunker, while 13-year old Jordan Shaw of Bunker suffered minor injuries. They were both taken to the Southeast Health Center in Ellington. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident occurred at 3:15 Saturday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 19 about three miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 21-year old Andrea Segovia of Salem was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo north when she slowed to make a left hand turn into a private drive. The Chevrolet then struck the right rear of a 2002 Ford Explorer driven north by 26-year old Amber Mantilla of Salem, who had traveled into the southbound lane to avoid the Chevrolet. The Ford then traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and then overturned. Mantilla suffered moderate injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Mercy in Springfield.

On Friday, October 24th at 9:45 in the evening, Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol was requested by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department to assist in the search of a missing 54-year old male hunter on U.S. Forest land in southwest Phelps County. Upon arriving in the area, a trooper requested a Highway Patrol Helicopter, equipped with a Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) thermal imaging device, to assist in the search. On Saturday, October 25th at 12:10 in the early morning, a FLIR equipped Patrol Helicopter arrived and began an aerial search. Within ten minutes the Patrol’s FLIR unit and the pilots were able to detect a flashing light in a thickly wooded area. The troopers manning the helicopter were then able to guide the searching officers to the missing hunter, who was found to have an injured ankle. The light source picked up by the helicopter was merely a disposable lighter.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, Kristen DeLuca of Verkamp & Malone, CPA’s will present to the Board the Annual Audit Report for 2013. Mayor J.J. Tune will discuss the MRPC annual dinner & awards program on November 13th in Bourbon and then will also address a letter from DMG Companies (Mobil) concerning the pre-payment or pre-approval ordinance that Police Chief Steelman presented at the last board meeting. He would also like to address the 2014 Ameren Community Update Meeting invitation and the  MFA Coop Association dinner and meeting invitation at the City Hall. In new and miscellaneous business, the Salem Park Board, Mayor Tune and the Board of Alderman have discussed at previous meetings the need for revenue to help support the parks and the Board will address proposing a sales tax to help support the parks that would appear on the April 2015 ballot. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The 2014 Trees and Trains Exhibit will again be at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South Main Street in Salem and will run from November 24th through December 24th this year. Zayne Kyser ran for 211 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Salem Tigers to a 50-27 win over St. James in the first round of District play. Eli Floyd added two rushing touchdowns, Zak Eplin intercepted a pass and returned it 96 yards for a score, and Paul McClain caught a 16-yard pass from Dylan Wisdom for the last Salem touchdown. Simon Frederick added a 36-yard field goal for Salem. St. James got two rushing touchdowns from Quarterback Brett Karnes and he threw for two more in the loss. St. James finished the year with a 3-7 record while Salem improved to 4-6 on the year. They will be at Mountain Grove Friday night in the second round with the game time set for 7:00.

Maty Mauk tallied 199 total yards and two touchdowns, as the Missouri Tigers held off the Vanderbilt Commodores, 24-14, in an SEC bout at Faurot Field. Mauk completed 11-of-23 passes for 141 yards with two touchdowns while adding 58 rushing yards for Missouri (6-2, 3-1 SEC). Missouri will host Kentucky on Saturday.

Ryan Reaves and Dmitrij Jaskin scored in a 1:45 span late in the second period to snap a tie and send St. Louis to a 3-2 decision over Chicago in a Central Division clash at Scottrade Center on Saturday. The Blues will be in Dallas to face the Stars on Tuesday.

Madison Bumgarner sparkled in a four-hit shutout to beat fellow ace James Shields for the second time in the World Series and the San Francisco Giants hit 11 singles in a 5-0 win over the Kansas City Royals in Game 5 on Sunday night. The Giants lead the series 3-2 while play shifts play to Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City for Game 6 and 7 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

St. Louis Cardinals 22-year old rookie Oscar Taveras died Sunday in an automobile accident in his native Dominican Republic.

Jamaal Charles rushed for 73 yards with two touchdowns, and the Kansas City Chiefs' defense stood tall in a 34-7 win over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Alex Smith, who threw just one incompletion in the first half, finished with 226 yards on 24-of-28 passing for the Chiefs (4-3), who have won four of their last five. Austin Davis went just 15-of-25 for 160 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and the Rams' rushing unit was limited to just 84 yards. The Rams will play the 49ers on Sunday while the Chiefs host the Jets Sunday.
