The Salem Police Department released their reports involving an active warrant and a theft. On Monday, October 18th at 11:25 a.m. an officer was detailed to the Green County Sheriff’s Department in reference to a 22-year old female of Springfield being held in lieu of a warrant from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody and transported to the Dent County Jail where she was incarcerated pending a court date. On Tuesday morning, October 19th at 11:45, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took $100 from the purse of an employee at Burger King. On Friday, October 22nd at 7:00 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of North Pershing in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that two rakes and two shovels were stolen from the basement of the residence between noon and 7:00 p.m. that day. The value of the items was placed at $25. On Saturday, October 23rd at 4:00 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the McDonalds Restaurant in reference to property damage to a private vehicle. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 58-year old Salem man for the property damage. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Monday morning, October 25th at 9:00, an officer was detailed to the Salem High School in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report led to the detention of a 16-year old Salem male juvenile for an assault on a 15-year old Salem male juvenile. He was released to his mother and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Officer. Anyone with information on the thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department, (573) 729-4242.

The Region I Homeland Security Committee would like to show area residents how it has been spending homeland security dollars in the region over the past few years. As a part of its annual meeting Thursday, October 28th, Region I HSOC will showcase some of its equipment purchases that are now located in the region and available in the event of an emergency. The group will hold its annual meeting at the Nelson Hart Community Center in the Nelson Hart Park in St. James. The public is invited to come out from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. to see equipment exhibition. Expected items to be on display include the EM-Track Patient Tracking System; Veterinarian Medical Assistance Trailer; Rolla Homeland Security Response Team Mobile Command Unit; Phelps County Regional Medical Center Mobile Office and Prime Mover; Red Cross Shelter Supply Trailer and Prime Mover; Mass Casualty Incident Response Trailer; Elliot Data Badging System; Satellite Phone, and Mobile Handheld Radios. Later that same day at 1:00 pm, the group will have its annual meeting and elect new committee members and leadership. The Region I HSOC, established along the boundaries of the State Highway Patrol Troop I, includes Crawford, Dent, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski and Laclede counties. Laclede County Emergency Management Director Jonathan Ayes has served as chairman since the 2009 annual meeting. George LaJoie of Air Evac, the EMS representative to the board, has been serving as vice chair and will assume the chairmanship at the meeting. The group will also recap the 2009 grant awards and discuss the process for the 2010 grants. Applications will be accepted in November and tentatively due in December.

An accident happened in Dent County on Highway 68 about four miles north of Salem Tuesday morning at 3:45. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet driven by 53-year old Joey L. Leubbert of Salem, struck a tree limb laying in the roadway from the storm that morning, ran off the roadway and struck a culvert. Leubbert suffered minor injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Leubbert was wearing his seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevy sustained moderate damages and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident occurred at 11:44 Tuesday morning in Phelps County on Route E in the City of Rolla at the entrance to the Troop I headquarters.  According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Chevrolet Troop I pickup, driven by 52-year old Keith Mathis of Edgar Springs was traveling northbound on Route E was slowing to turn into the Troop I headquarters and was struck from behind by a 1996 Suzuki passenger car driven by 47-year old Lonnie Fisher of St. James. Mathis and a passenger, 67-year old Jerry Knowles of Rolla both suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet pickup sustained moderate damage and was left at the Troop I headquarters. The Suzuki car sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by C&C Towing. The Chevrolet sustained damage to the bed and cab with damages estimated at $7,000 and there was unknown damage to the radio equipment.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tiger’s season came to an end at the hands of the Lady Knights of St. Francis Borgia in two straight games last night in Owensville. 25-6 and 25-22.

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson underwent finger surgery on Monday and his status for Sunday's game against Carolina is questionable, head coach Steve Spagnuolo said at a press conference. The Rams also took a hit to the secondary, as starting left cornerback Ron Bartell suffered a quad contusion and safety James Butler has a shoulder injury. Bartell is considered day-to-day, while Butler he's not expected to play against the Panthers.

Calgary Flames left wing Rene Bourque, St. Louis Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak and Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending October 24. The Second Star went to Halak after he posted a 2-0-1 record with one shutout, a stingy 1.62 goals-against average and .944 save percentage.

Funeral services for Kenneth Edward Norris of Salem, age 77, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time.  Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for Alta Land of Salem, age 86, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Midlawn Memorial Garden in St. Clair. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Graveside Committal services for Oneta T. Blake of Hillsboro, Illinois, age 86, will be held Friday at the Delmar Cemetery in Bunker, after visitation from 10:00 to 12:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield, Illinois.
