The Dent County Commissioners met for the regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Ellen Baum from the Scenic Rivers Industries Workshop said that they are still selling road signs for $20 for the sign and pole, and can now add PVT to a private lane for an additional $3.00. For more information, call 729-6264. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that work crews would be hauling rock from the creek, checking and cleaning out culverts, and putting up downed road signs. He said that workers would also be cutting brush on Dent County Road 6280 and repairing another brush cutter. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that District Two workers would also be hauling gravel from the creek, as well as checking and cleaning out leaves from culverts, putting up downed road signs and taking care of some trash and trees on Dent County Road 4050. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the bids for the emergency generator for the Red Cross Shelter at the Oak Grove Baptist Church were opened last week and the lowest bid came in at $60,544. That is over $15,000 more than the grant that was awarded for in the amount of $46,003. That figure came from the original load assessment from Intercounty Electric on what would be needed. Skiles said that Intercounty is going to check it again and see if a smaller generator can be used. If that doesn’t work, Skiles said that the county may withdraw this grant and apply for a larger grant on the next go around, or apply in the new round for the difference in the funding. He also said that he would be attending a meeting of the MREPC Wednesday in St. James. At the last meeting, The Senior Citizens Service Fund requested another $8,500 for the Salem Nutrition Site to update the kitchen, and decreased the expenses to $4,500 for the Enrichment Center. The budget adjustment request was approved by the commissioners. Curtis Carle also came in to request that gravel be placed on Dent County Road 4350 close to the highway. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to everyone.
