The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that materials would be added and grading and ditch work would be done on Dent County Road 6220. He stated that grading would also be done on Dent County Road 4220, and that brush was going to cut on Dent County Roads 5610, 5680, 6090 and 6100. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 3180, 3200 and 5225, while materials would be added and grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2070 and 2080. He also indicated that materials were going to be added to Dent County Road 4280. He also attended the Community Center Committee meeting at the Salem Freedom Activity Center. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated that he attended the IDA Board meeting Wednesday night as they talked with representatives of Royal Oak Charcoal to try to find warehousing space locally. They lost about 100,000 feet of warehouse space. Skiles also reported that he will have State Senator Dan Brown as his guest on his radio show on KSMO Radio this morning at 8:35. Brown will be explaining the amendment and propositions that are on the ballot in more detail for people to get a better understanding of what they are voting on. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that absentee voting continues through November 5th during regular business hours at her office as well as on Saturday, November 3rd from 8:00 to noon. She said that the last day to request a mail-out ballot will be October 31st, and that sample ballots are available at her office for anyone who would like to pick one up. She said that she now has copies of the “Fair Ballot Language” concerning the amendment and propositions on the ballot. She is also reminding anyone that if you have moved or had a name change since you last voted to please contact her office at 729-4144. Curley said that the public test of the voting equipment would be held on October 30th at 9:00 at her office. Curley also said that she has received two grants from the Secretary of State’s office. The first grant is for $4,581 for poll training and the printing of the pole books; and the second grant is $5,043 for the purchase or maintenance of certified voting equipment including scanners and printers. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held on Monday at the Dent County Courthouse at 9:00 in the morning and that meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department released several reports. On Sunday, October 7th at 1:07 in the morning, an officer went to a room at the Ranch Motel attempting to locate a missing 16-year old female juvenile. During the investigation, the officer located the missing female juvenile along with a 14-year old female juvenile and two 18-year old males who were in possession of intoxicants. The two male suspects were placed under arrest, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. The juvenile suspects were released to their parents and will be referred to the Juvenile Office. Later that morning at 10:14, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 300 block of East Hunt in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone entered the residence and took a television set and a Wii console valued at $2,100. At 9:17 that evening, an officer made contact with a 25-year old Salem male who had an active warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody and later released on bond with a date to appear in court. On Tuesday, October 9th at 10:12 in the morning, officers of the Salem Police Department, Dent County Sheriffs Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted two search warrants for residences located on county roads 3030 and 4122. The searches led to the arrest of a 46-year old male and a 43-year old female, both of Salem, for distribution of a controlled substance. They were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. That afternoon at 3:39, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 900 block of South Pershing in reference to a theft. That Investigation revealed that a 39-year old Salem female used a credit card without authorization for the amount of $200. Anyone with info regarding the thefts is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
An accident occurred at 10:30 Wednesday evening in Dent County on County Road 5080 about three miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1995 Ford Windstar, driven by 29-year old Sarah G. Miller of Salem, ran off the right side of the roadway and came to rest against an embankment. Miller suffered minor injuries and was taken to Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Miller was later charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to drive on the right half of the roadway, and no seat belt. The Ford sustained no apparent damage and was removed from the scene by a family member.
Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol recorded four traffic fatalities during the month of September 2012, which is the same as September of last year. There have been 34 total fatalities this year, which is ten more than this time last year. There were 149 accidents with 61 injuries and four fatalities for this past September. Crawford County reported 15 accidents with 13 injuries; Dent County reported nine accidents with two injuries and one fatality. Phelps County reported 47 accidents with 12 injuries and two fatalities.

Cody Chaney scored three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats of Logan-Rogersville to a 20-13 win over the Salem Tigers in the first round of district play to eliminate Salem from the playoffs. Fumbles at the Salem 14-yard line in the first half and on the Wildcat 12-yard line in the second half by Salem both led to Wildcat touchdowns. Salem was led by Zane Kyzer with 19 carries for 166 yards rushing and a touchdown followed by Brady Floyd with 95 yards rushing on 12 carries and a touchdown. Salem finishes the year with a 6-4 record. Congratulations Tigers on a fine season.
Madison Bumgarner continued a brilliant stretch of starting pitching for the San Francisco Giants during Game 2 of the World Series, twirling seven shutout innings in a 2-0 squeaker over the Detroit Tigers that brought the National League champions within two wins of their second title in three years. The Tigers only managed two hits. Game 3 and 4 will be Saturday and Sunday in Detroit.
The Missouri Tiger football team will be back in action on Saturday when they host Kentucky at 11:00. Missouri is 3-4 on the year and you’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO Radio.
The St. Louis Rams will play the New England Patriots Sunday in London at noon. The Kansas City Chiefs will be hosting the Oakland Raiders on Sunday at 3:05. The Rams are 3-4 on the year and the Chiefs are 1-5.

Funeral services for Ruth Ann Martin of Salem, age 67, will be Tuesday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Polk Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Polk Cemetery.
Funeral services for Dennis Creek of Reynolds will be Sunday 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the McSpadden Funeral home for funeral expenses.
