The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. For the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 522, 601, 622 and 658 and the rest of the District 1 crew would be doing repair work on a loader that broke down. Simpson also said that he represented the county at the Dent County Extension meeting that was held Monday night.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 216 and 429 and also on various roads in the Stone Hill area. Tune also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 237 and gravel would be hauled to the crusher. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he received a letter from MODOT stating that the Bridge Replacement Fund for this area was cut by $326.00 from the previous year.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the 2008 Community Block Grant hearing for Reynolds County has been rescheduled for November 26^th at 10:00 am at the Reynolds County Courthouse. Glen Durnbaugh stopped by the meeting to ask the Commission about adding some gravel to a portion of Dent County Road 215. Commissioner Tune said he would look into it, and then decide how much gravel needs to be added.  Also at the meeting, Mary Beth Cook and Dennis Denny, a representative from MRCT Benefits Plus, came by to discuss with the Commission health insurance policies for the county. At 10:00 the Commission went into closed session with Mayor Gary Brown and all City Alderman to discuss personnel. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

United States Attorney Catherine Hanaway and Dent County Sheriff Bob Wofford announced that 48-year old Dennis Wright of Salem, was indicted by a federal grand jury on two felony counts of production of child pornography and four felony counts of possession of child pornography. The indictment alleges that between June 2005 and August 2007, Wright used a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, which he videotaped. In October 2005, Wright is alleged to have used a different minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, which he also videotaped. Additionally, it is alleged in the indictment that in August 2007, Wright possessed multiple computer images containing child pornography which he had downloaded to his computer and different computer CD’s. In addition to the Dent County Sheriff, Hanaway commended the work on the case by the Dent County Prosecuting Attorney, the Regional Computer Crime Education and Enforcement Group and the Assistant United States Attorney.

The Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee awarded $3,000 of training funds to Meta Fire and Rescue, Sullivan Fire Protection District and Dent County Fire and Rescue during its regular quarterly meeting on September 26th at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission in St. James. Meta Fire and Rescue will use its grant for a hazardous materials refresher course for firefighters while Sullivan and Dent County will conduct a hazardous materials awareness and operations class. This fiscal year, MREPC has set aside $7,000 for grants to fire departments in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Osage and Washington counties. The maximum grant request was set at $1,000, and no match is required.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Auxiliary has collected the best recipes from group members, family and friends and compiled them into an attractive keepsake cookbook. This cookbook features recipes for appetizers, main dishes, desserts and more. The cookbooks are available at the hospital for $8.00 and can be bought from any auxiliary member or call Karen Brown or Debbie Leach at 729-6626.

The Salem 9th Grade Football Team lost it's last contest of the year, 40-18 against the Waynesville Tigers. Salem's first score came in the second quarter when Cody Ard returned a kick off 75 yards for a touchdown. Salem then scored in the third quarter when Kevin Presley scored from 30 yards out. The final score for Salem came at the end of the game when Jared Shorey scored from 10 yards out.

Tonight the Salem Football Tigers will travel to Buffalo to face the Bison starting at 7:00. Salem is 4-4 on the year and 1-0 district play. The Missouri Tigers will host Iowa State tomorrow at 1:00 at Faurot Field in a Big 12 tilt. Missouri is 6-1 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO starting at noon.

Pascal Leclaire stopped all 36 shots he faced, as the Columbus Blue Jackets blanked the St. Louis Blues, 3-0, at Nationwide Arena. Rick Nash and Jiri Novotny each recorded a goal and an assist for Columbus. Leclaire earned his fourth victory of the season, all coming via the shutout. Hannu Toivonen, making his first start for the Blues, made 25 saves in the loss. St. Louis has two losses in its last three games. The Blues will face Washington Saturday night at 7:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

The St. Louis Cardinals released left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth on Thursday, just four months after acquiring him from the Detroit Tigers. Maroth went 5-2 for Detroit last season and posted an identical record in 2006 but struggled once in St. Louis, going 0-5 with a 10.66 ERA.

Curt Schilling willed his way through 5 1/3 frames and Mike Lowell drove in the go-ahead run with a fifth-inning double, as Boston claimed a 2-1 victory over Colorado in Game 2 of the World Series. Matt Holliday went 4- for-4 for the Rockies. Ubaldo Jimenez (0-1) cruised through the second inning before control problems started to set in. The hard-throwing right-hander yielded only three hits, but walked five and gave up both runs in 4 2/3 innings. Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday night at Coors Field in Denver. Daisuke Matsuzaka will take the ball for the Red Sox against Josh Fogg for the Rockies.
