Govenor Matt Blunt has announced that the Missouri Department of Economic Development has approved Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) status for the city of Salem and parts of Dent County. The Enhanced Enterprise Zone program will help support economic development efforts and create jobs by providing state and local benefits to companies that expand or locate in the zone. The new zone's boundaries will include areas that have higher levels of distress, due to recent job migration, and less investment in residential and commercial property. The seven-member board will utilize the program to broaden economic development opportunities throughout the city and parts of the county. The new enhanced enterprise zone will have a 25-year lifespan. Eligible businesses that locate in the new zone can receive state tax credits based on job creation and investment for up to 10 years. The tax credits must be used in the tax year issued or the business has the option of selling the tax credits or receiving a refund for the unused balance. The Enhanced Enterprise
Zone program was implemented in 2004.
Enhanced enterprise zones are specified geographic areas designated by local governments and certified by the Department of Economic Development. Zone designation is based on certain demographic criteria, the potential to create sustainable jobs in a targeted industry and a demonstrated impact on local industry cluster development.

The 23rd-ranked Missouri Tigers try to stretch their home winning streak to nine games this Saturday, when they welcome the 19th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners to Columbia for a Big 12 showdown. The Tigers enter the contest on a high note, as they posted a 41-21 victory over Kansas State last weekend to extend their home winning streak to eight games. It was a solid rebound for Missouri, which is off to its first 7-1 start since the 1969 season. More importantly, the victory improved the Tigers to 3-1 in conference play and that has them in a tie for the North Division lead with Nebraska. With just four games left in the regular season, Missouri has a legitimate shot to win its first conference title of any kind in football since the 1969 club earned a share of the Big East championship. Saturday's game will mark the 88th meeting between Oklahoma and Missouri, with the Sooners holding a commanding 61-21-5 advantage in the series. The Sooners have won each of the past three meetings and also own a 30-14 mark at Columbia.
