The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Director’s held their monthly meeting at the hospital library Thursday evening. After the audit report, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor gave the summary of operations for the month of September. For the month, the hospital showed a loss from operations of $64,326. Even though inpatient admissions of 61 were over-budget, the number of outpatients registered were 1,673 which is 180 less than budgeted and down 215 from last year. For the fiscal year-to-date, the hospital is still showing an excess of revenues over expenses of $73,140. Looking at the balance sheet, the hospital showed an increase in cash of $731,144 and an increase of $547,788 in accounts receivable from September of 2009. Pryor said that monies are still slow coming to the hospital from Medicare and also from commercial providers. That is a key in why the days in accounts receivable increased from 43 last September to 55 this year. Carol Lacy then gave the nursing services report and said that there were 853 emergency room visits during the month of September with a turn-around time of 103 minutes. There were 213 ambulance runs in September with 206 patients assessed and 159 of them transported. There were 54 dry runs during the month. Also during the month, there were 21 surgeries, 253 Home Health visits, 8,650 lab tests, 1,084 radiological procedures, 230 CT scans, 37 MRI scans, 24 nuclear med scans, 429 rehab treatments, 232 dialysis treatments and 392 clinical visits. Lacy then gave the call light report for July through September and the response time was 2:43 with an average of 46 call lights per day. Administrator Pryor reported that Biba Boardman from Acute Care was the overall winner of the “Pounds for Packs” contest with 15% total weight loss. The greatest amount of weight lost by one individual was 30 pounds, and those participating lost a total of 403 pounds. The hospital board agreed to donate $5 for every pound lost and so they will contribute $2,015 to the Backpack program. Pryor said that the third straight year, the Salem Hospital Home Health Agency is one of the top 100 agencies nationally. Salem is one of three agencies in Missouri to receive this honor and is the only one from a rural area. Pryor gave the hospital auxiliary report and the Quilt Sale and Colors of Cancer Banquet brought in $785, and the Books are Fun promotion brought in another $676. Their next event will be the masquerade jewelry sale November 8 and 9th at the Dent County Fire Station. Pryor went over the inpatient surveys that were received for July through September. The surveys continue to show outstanding results as a total of 29 were received. Pryor updated the board on the construction work as the Business Office and Home Health have now moved to the lower level of Physicians Office #3. The Long-Term Care expansion has been put on hold waiting for steel to arrive, and the Activity Room and reception area work will begin this week. Casey Lucas spoke about the electronic medical record timeline and said that he met with doctors about the current MPM and they recommended finding a different vendor. He said the installation of the hospital-wide wireless access should now be completed, and that the go-live date for the Med-Host Emergency Room Software will be November 2nd. The board approved budgeted purchases for the laboratory of a 2-drawer file cabinet from Staples in Rolla for $105 and a Safeco desktop organizer from Automated Business Systems for $167. They approved the purchase of an Izzy Hag Ultrasound Chair for radiology for $841 from Cone, seven licenses for Office 2010 for SMDH Family Health Care for $3,187 from CDW-G, Ergotron StyleViews Work Station for Displays from CDW for $9,561 and the six-software user license fee from WaveWave Technologies for $1,919. In non-budgeted purchases, the board approved the purchase of an EZ-IO G3 Power Driver from EA Medical for the ambulance for $335, and approved the purchase of a Polycom Soundstation conference phone for the IS Department for $365 from Comp USA. The board then went into closed session.
