The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After the approval of previous board meeting minutes, the board will hear the annual hospital audit report from John Cooper of BK&D. Administrator Dennis Pryor will then give the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar, legislative updates as well as the employee commitment to health challenge and the ER and inpatient satisfaction survey result. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then give the summary of operations and statistics for the month of September along with the nursing services, ancillary service and cal light reports. In old business there will be a physician office building report, a strategic planning update, discussion of the statewide hospital employee health insurance consortium, the Missouri Enterprise and the annual bylaw review. During new business, the Board will address hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public. 

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts. On October 14^th at 8:06 p.m. an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 27-year old Salem female for stealing items valued at $545.86. She was issued summons to appear in court and released. Six reports of thefts came in on October 15^th starting at 8:56 a.m. when an officer was detailed to the 300 block of West Seventh in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that persons unknown entered a 1992 GMC Jimmy and took a Pioneer CD player valued $200.00 out of the dash. At 8:59 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of West Ellis in reference to vandalism to vehicles. That investigation revealed that persons unknown painted white spray paint on two vehicles parked at residences. The value of the damage is unknown. At 10:15 a.m. an officer was sent to the Walnut Bowl in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that persons unknown took five round top metal tables valued $625.00. At 11:15 a.m. an officer was detailed to the 900 block of West Thomas in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that persons unknown entered a 2001 GMC Yukon and took a console television valued $400.00. At 4:15 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of McGrath in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that persons unknown entered a 1998 Ford Ranger and took a wallet valued $10.00 and a gold wedding band valued $40.00. At 6:30 p.m. that same evening, an officer was called to the 100 block of Parkview Place in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that persons unknown entered a vehicle and took a purse and contents valued $215.00. On October 16^th at 10:30 a.m. an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen handgun. The investigation of the report revealed that persons unknown had entered a residence and took an H&R 22 caliber revolver valued at $200.00. On October 17^th at 8:17 a.m. an officer was detailed to the 700 block of East Dent in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that persons unknown took two full propane cylinders valued $100.00 from a residence. You can enjoy an evening of spooky stories or have some fall fun in Missouri state parks and historic sites. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the events are open to the public. On Saturday, October 25^th  “A Haunting at the Montauk Mill” will take place at Montauk State Park near Salem. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., you can see bats, hear voices and see images of ghosts from the past. The past will come to life at the old Montauk gristmill. Hear lingering voices of Ozark pioneers and see mysteries of the deep. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., you can sit around a campfire and listen to stories told by storyteller Joy Nak. In case of bad weather, please meet at the visitor center. The Dent County Schools, Salem R-80, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III, and Northwood R-IV will be closed Friday, October 24^th. Classes will resume Monday, October 27^th.

Johan Franzen scored what was the eventual game-winning goal in the third period and the Detroit Red Wings survived a spirited comeback to hand the St. Louis Blues their first home loss, 4-3. Keith Tkachuk, T.J. Oshie and Brad Boyes found the back of the net for St. Louis, which also got 30 saves from former Red Wing Manny Legace in defeat. The Blues fell to 2-1-0 on their current seven-game home stand and they will face the Los Angeles Kings Friday night.

St. Louis Blues forward D.J. King will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, team president John Davidson announced Wednesday. King injured his shoulder in the Blues' 6-1 win over Dallas on October 16.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols was named the Sporting News' Player of the Year, as selected by a panel of 314 major league players. Pujols batted .357 with 37 home runs and 116 runs batted in during the 2008 season, and did so while playing with a torn ligament in his right elbow. This marks the second time Pujols has been selected as the top player by his peers, as he first captured the honor in 2003.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed quarterback Quinn Gray to a two-year contract after the team's top two signal-callers, Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard, both suffered injuries in Sunday's loss to the Titans. Also on Wednesday, the Chiefs claimed punter Steve Weatherford off waivers from the New Orleans Saints.
