An accident happened in Dent County on Highway 119 about two and a half miles from Route E Monday afternoon at 3:45. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer driven northbound by 33-year old Crystal Crunk of Bland, traveled off the right side of the roadway. Crunk overcorrected twice before going back off the right side of the road where the Trailblazer struck a tree. Crunk suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem Ambulance. Crunk was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. 

An accident happened in Reynolds County Monday morning at about 9:00 on Reynolds County Road 752 about six miles south of Reynolds. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Hyundai Sante Fe driven northbound by 78-year old Harold Hackworth of Boss, traveled off the right side of the roadway, went down an embankment, struck a fence and then the vehicle overturned. Hackworth suffered minor injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their monthly meeting Tuesday evening in the hospital library. Following the audit report from Eddie Marmouget from BKD, the board heard the summary of operations for the month of September. The report showed inpatient admissions were down while outpatient registrations were up as well as emergency room visits. Even though expenses were held in check, the loss of revenue from fewer in-patient admissions caused a loss from operations of $8,454. The cash flow statement showed a decrease in cash of $151,367. The days in accounts receivable in September was 54, which is down from 55 in August. There were 45 acute care patients admitted with an average of 5.3 patients per day. In the Director of Nursing report for the month of September, it was reported there were 905 emergency room visits with 56 transfers. The average turn around time in the ER was 118 minutes for the month. There were a total of 222 ambulance runs with 240 patients being assessed and 168 patients being transported, 30 surgery cases, 1,779 outpatient registrations, 264 Home Health visits, 9,540 lab tests, 1,022 radiological procedures, 183 CT scans, 32 MRI scans, only 6 nuclear med scans due to an inoperable scanner for a few days, 1,325 cardiopulmonary procedures, 450 rehab treatments, 172 dialysis treatments and 330 clinical visits. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor reported the hospital auxiliary has one remaining fundraiser, their linen sale, which will be on November 3rd and 4th at the ONCRC. The hospital reviewed the patient satisfaction survey results for the months of July through September for the emergency room, in-patient services, and the rural health clinics. Results were outstanding in all areas. Pryor reported that an internal medical physician would be visiting the hospital next week, while a second physician will be visiting the week of November 10^th. Assistant Administrator Kasey Lucas reported the hospital received a fix from CPSI for the continuity of care document for the patient portal. The hospital is running tests on the fix. Because of the problem with the patient portal, the hospital did not meet the MU phase 2 Attestation. After a discussion with the auditors, the hospital voted later to implement the Stage 2 Flexibility Rule to allow them time to correct the problem and meet the Stage 2 Attestation at a later date. In the IT risk assessment about 100 pages of recommendations were created and they will start to address the high-risk items first. Lucas reported that Christine Cottrell, the new Clinical IT Coordinator started on Monday, October 20^th. Cindy Fry, RN, went over the Ebola preparation time-line of the hospital, the protocol that is followed at the hospital, and gave a demonstration of the personal protective covering that is required of all employees who may come into contact with patients. Lucas recommended BKD Consulting Services for hire to help with reconciling documentation and assist in the process of securing $440,000 from Medicaid Attestation, which would be a retro attestation, and a 2014 Meaningful Use Flexibility Rule Attestation. The cost would be $45,000 and the board approved this. He also recommended using True Bridge for their electronic pay stubs and year-end payroll W-2’s. The board approved this recommendation. The board approved the following purchases: an Invacare Reliant450 Patient Lift for Dialysis for $2,037 from Direct Supply, a Ricoh copier for the Family Health Center for $5,557, and an FM Scanner for Information Systems from Tiger Direct for $872. The board then went into closed session.
