The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Gene Oakley, Deputy Director of MoBroadbandNow, came in to update the commission on the initiative. The objective of the initiative is to have 95% of the citizens of Missouri with high-speed Internet access by the year 2015. He said that the Regional Planning Commissioners are working with the initiative to provide a collection of data from each area about high-speed Internet access that will be compiled and summarized in a report. Oakley indicated that he expected that report would have already been completed but it has not yet been released. He said that the compiled data would help identify the Internet needs of the areas and also provide comments that were provided by the public. He stated that public gatherings would be held each year on MOBroadbandNow to assess the progress of the initiative. He reported that the State of Missouri received 260 million dollars from the federal government to reach the goal of the initiative. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2450, 2480, 5460, 6225, 6320 and 6400 while brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2460. Purcell stated that two trucks would be hauling brown rock. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 4060, that brush would be cut on county road 5260, and that chip and seal repairs would be made on Dent County Road 3290. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles told the commission that sales tax revenues for the 2011-year are up about $230 compared to the same time period last year. He also reminded the commission about the quarterly meeting that would be held on Monday, October 24^th at 6:00 in the Associate Courtroom in the Judicial Building. At the last meeting, Jason Stotler asked the commission about putting a Geo-Cache site at the courthouse on the grounds outside and the commissioners had no objection. Molly Malone of Verkamp and Malone, LLC, came in and discussed the audit of 2010 and stated that the county was in good condition financially and had no issues. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at the courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports of a fraudulent prescription, a bad check, and property damage. On Friday, October 14^th at 2:37 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Wal-Mart pharmacy in reference to a fraudulent prescription. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown obtained two prescriptions fraudulently. Moments later at 2:50 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to a check written on a closed account. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown passed a bad check in the amount of $340.39 to Show-Me tools for merchandise purchased. On Sunday, October 16^th at 10:44 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of South Pershing Street in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that two vehicles had glass broken out. The value of the damage is approximately $400. That evening at 10:33, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of East Third Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of led to the arrest of a 36 year-old male of Salem for failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer and resisting arrest as well as a 35-year old female of Salem for assault. Both were issued summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with information regarding the fraudulent prescription, the bad check, or the property damage is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) will be holding a blood drive today from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Salem Wood Products located at 200 Stave Mill Road in Salem. Eligibility requirements include weighing at least 110 pounds, being in general good health, and presenting required ID. For more information you can visit www.cbco.org.

Dent County Coroner Gina White has released her report on the death of 48-year old Ronald Baum of Salem. According to the report, Baum suffered a self-inflicted gunshot head wound while at his home on Wednesday morning, October 19^th. EMS personnel responded and Baum was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital and was later flown to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was then pronounced dead at 4:34 that afternoon by Dr. Dacey. Baum’s body has since been released to the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Johnnie Boyd ran for 198 yards and had four rushing touchdowns to help the Salem Tigers to a 43-27 win over St. James. Ben Adams ran for 141 yards and a score and Brady Floyd added the other touchdown. Sammy Ibrahim added 141 yards on the ground as the Tigers move to 5-4 on the year and 1-1 in Districts. The game will be played back on KSMO at 3:15 this afternoon. Salem will play their regular season finale and final District game of the year next Thursday in Osage.

Josh Hamilton and Michael Young hit back-to-back sacrifice flies in the top of the ninth inning Thursday, lifting the Rangers to a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 and tying the Fall Classic at one game apiece. In the seventh inning, Allen Craig delivered a go-ahead pinch-hit single off Alexi Ogando for the second game in a row, spoiling what had been a pitching duel until then. But Jason Motte and the St. Louis bullpen couldn't hold the 1-0 lead in the ninth. Jaime Garcia went seven innings allowing only three hits and a walk while striking out seven. David Freese had a hit and scored on Craig’s pinch-hit. Game 3 and 4 can be heard on Saturday and Sunday on KSMO at 6:00 both nights.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Carolina Hurricane tonight at 7:00. The Blues are 2-4 on the year and you can hear that game on KSMO.

The Missouri Tiger football team will host Oklahoma State Saturday. Mizzou is 3-3 on the year and 1-2 in the Big 12. Kickoff will be at 11:00 and you can hear that game on KSMO.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be in Oakland Sunday to face the Raiders at 3:05, and the St. Louis Rams will be in Dallas to play the Cowboys at 3:15.

Glenn Roy Hedrick, age 63, of Salem passed away October 19^th. No services will be held. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem.

Graveside service for William D. Gibbs, age 85, of Warrenton will be held Monday, October 24th at 11:00 in the Cedar Grove Cemetary in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Association. All Arrangements are under the direction of the Pitman Funeral Home in Warrenton.

Funeral service for Howard O. Morton of Salem, age 92, will be held Monday, October 24th at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Monday from 11:00 until 1:00. Internment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lola A. League of Salem, age 89, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home.

Funeral services for Kennith E. Hunter of Salem, age 88, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
