An accident occurred at 1:19 Saturday afternoon in Crawford County that took the life of a Steelville woman. According to the highway patrol report, 31-year old David DeClue of Steelville was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition south on Highway 19 about a mile south of Steelville when the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and struck several objects before coming to rest. Declue suffered serious injuries and was flown by Arch Air to Mercy in Creve Coeur. Crawford County Assistant Coroner Darren Dake pronounced an occupant, 27-year old Candise White of Steelville, dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the Hudson Funeral Home in Steelville. They were not wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Ford was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles and Son’s.

An accident occurred at 5:50 Thursday evening in Dent County on Highway 32 about 24 miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 GMC Sonoma driven by 17-year old Katelynn Slater of Lenox was traveling westbound on highway 32, traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree. Slater suffered minor injuries and was transported by the Iron County ambulance to the Salem Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident occurred at 7:20 Thursday morning in Texas County about four miles east of Licking on Highway 32. According to the highway patrol report, a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic driven by 19-year old Alyssa Sanchez of Licking, pulled into the path of a 2001 Jeep SUV driven by 22-year old Kadilyn Ramsey of Licking. The Jeep swerved to avoid the Chevrolet, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Ramsey and a passenger, 3-year old Braylinn Ramsey suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Texas County Memorial Hospital. Infant Braxton Ramsey suffered minor injuries was transported by private vehicle to the Texas County Memorial Hospital. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education met Thursday evening for their regular meeting at the district administrative offices. After communications were read, Superintendent Steve Carvajal reported the Middle school and high school building project is virtually complete as the landscaping work has been finished and the touch up work has been all but completed. Carvajal did report that there were some minor roofing problems that caused a few small leaks and they were being taken care of. Carvajal said the last payment to the roofing company would not be made until all the roofing problems have been addressed. Assistant Superintendent John McCulloch reported on the professional development day where teachers and administrators heard from Michael Dames with the Ruby Payne group speaking about educating children in poverty through a program known as “Bridges out of Poverty”. An educator for 18 years, Dames uses the aha! Process to educate teachers and administrators how to work with these children to achieve maximum results. Carvajal said that a number of board members attended the MSBA Conference where educational issues were discussed including how available technology in districts is influencing education. None of the building principals were in attendance, but reports from all the schools shows that attendance is solid in all schools with the high school at 94.3% and the middle school at 95.8%. At the high school, it was reported that four students were going to take the HiSET test that has replaced the GED test for high school equivalency. It was also reported the Salem Chamber Choir will be the featured choir on the their trip to Carnegie Hall in New York. The board approved the contract between the city of Salem and the R-80 district to allow the Salem FFA Chapter to use the City of Salem and Dent County Practice Shooting Range. Superintendent Carvajal said the school audit would be presented at the next meeting as well a large number of policy updates from DESE for the board to review. The board then went into closed session.

The Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center located at 202 South Main in Salem is still hosting the exhibit, “Artists in the Woods” now through Friday, October 31st. Everything from intricate carvings to massive furniture and fishing lures, to kitchen bowls have all been fashioned from wood. Talent and creativity abounds within the displays, celebrating the versatility of wood, one of the Ozarks greatest renewable resources. The Artists in the Woods exhibit will be on display Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information call the ONCRC at 729-0029.

Zane Kyser's three touchdowns led the Salem Tigers to a 32-14 win over the Cabool Bulldogs Friday night at the SHS Field. Salem actually trailed 14-13 early in the thrid quarter before scoring 19 unanswered points taking advantage of four Cabool turnovers in the game. Eli Floyd finished with two touchdowns for Salem in the game. Salem finished with a 2-5 record in the SCA and finished the regular season with a 3-6 record to finish fifth in the district seeding behind the St. James Tigers who also finished with a 3-6 record. Salem will be at St. James for the first round of District play Friday night starting at 7:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers have been seeded 8th in the Class 3, District 8 tournament and they will play the second seeded Sullivan Lady Eagles at 6:15 tonight at Union. The winner will play tomorrow at 6:15 against the winner of the St. James and Owensville match.

Marcus Murphy returned both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns, and also added a rushing score as the Missouri Tigers easily downed the Florida Gators, 42-13, in an SEC battle at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Missouri will host Vanderbilt this Saturday afternoon at 3:00.

Jaden Schwartz notched his first career hat trick, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 6-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Alexander Steen and David Backes each tallied a goal and an assist, Jori Lehtera scored his first career goal and added two helpers and Schwartz also added an assist for the Blues. On Sunday, Frederik Andersen recorded his first career shutout and the Ducks rolled to their fifth straight victory with a 3-0 whitewash of the Blues, who will host the Vancouver on Thursday.

Austin Davis was an efficient 18-of-21 passing for 152 yards with two touchdowns, and the Rams held off the Seahawks for a 28-26 win. St. Louis (2-4), which snapped a three-game losing streak, had a punt return touchdown and converted a gutsy fake punt late in the game to seal the victory. The Rams will play the Chiefs this Sunday at noon.

Cairo Santos' third field goal of the game came with 21 seconds left and gave the Kansas City Chiefs a 23-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers in an AFC West battle. The Chiefs will host the Rams at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday.

Funeral services for Steve Eugene Jimmerson of Boss, age 61, will be held at 11:00 this morning at the Macedonia United Baptist Church in Boss. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Macedonia United Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. 

Funeral services for Pauline Julia “Peaches” Stotler of Lenox, age 56, will be Tuesday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. There will be no interment. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #99.

Funeral services for Georgia Wagner of Rolla, age 90, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery.

Funeral services for Freddie Emmitt Whitaker, Sr. of Salem, age 78, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday night. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
