The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 515 and 647, and on roads in the Gladden and Custer areas. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on various roads throughout District 1, and a crew would be hauling rock to the crusher. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 315 and 319, and also in the Anutt area. Tune also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 251, and a crew would be putting up road signs. At the previous meeting, Deloris Gray Wood attended to bring the Commission a copy of a Quick Claim Deed to be recorded, and Sandy Hogan also attended the meeting to inquire about next year's health insurance for the county. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock reported that the county had agreed to a settlement with Southwestern Bell Telephone that the county would be receiving back taxes. Also at the meeting, all three Commissioners signed a letter to the state to request an increase in the state reimbursement from a $20.00 per diem to $22.50 per diem per day for the prisoners. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

A large crowd attended the "Ask the Candidate" Forum held at the Salem City Hall last night that featured candidates in all the county office races, the races for circuit judges in the 42nd district and also for State Representative for 150th district. From now thorugh October 30th at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center, located at 202 South Main in Salem, will be the multimedia exhibit, "Inspirations from the Forest." The exhibit is sponsored by the Salem Area Arts Council and produced by the Smithsonian Center for Folklore and Cultural Heritage, and is being held in conjunction with the USDA Forest Service and the National Endowment for the Arts. This exhibit shares the history, inspiration, and uses of forest resources through panels and displays of items showing how our environment serves as an inspiration for creative outlets in both the practical and fine arts. Special presentations and exhibits by local and area artists, craftsmen, and performers will compliment the display throughout its two-week stay. On Saturday, October 21st from noon until 4:00, there will be gig-making by Ray Hastings and violin/fiddle making by Bernard Allen and others. On Monday, October 23rd at 6:00 pm, the U.S. Army 399th Woodwind Quintet will perform. Then on Saturday, October 28th from noon until 4:00 there will be wood carving by the men of the Carver's Club from the Church of Christ Rolla, and a hammered dulcimer performance by Paula Walters and Libby Sanders. The exhibit will be open from 9:00 to 5:00 Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9:00 to 7:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 1:00 to 4:00 on Sundays. The Bonebrake Center of Nature and History located at the intersection of North Hickory and East Rolla Road, will present "Batman Comes to the Bonebrake Center" on Tuesday, October 24th at 7:00 pm. Dr Lynn Robbins, professor of biology from Missouri State University (Springfield) will come share his research on BATS! Light refreshments will be provided. The cost is $5.00 per person or $10.00 for the whole family. Phone reservations are requested, but not required. Yadier Molina belted a two-run homer in the ninth inning, and the Cardinals escaped a bases-loaded jam to end the game for a return trip to the Fall Classic with a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets in a dramatic Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. Jeff Suppan threw spectacular ball into the eighth inning and Adam Wainwright worked out of the jam in the ninth, getting Carlos Beltran looking at a called third strike to preserve the nail-biting win for St. Louis. Randy Flores (1-0) finished the 8th inning and got the win and Wainwright the save. Ronnie Belliard had the other RBI for the Cardinals who will now face the Detroit Tigers in the World Series starting Saturday night at 7:00 on KSMO.

The Cardinals and Detroit Tigers have met in the World Series twice before. In 1934, the Cards won th series in seven games, and in 1968, Detroit won in seven games.

The Salem Football Tigers will be at Rogersville tonight to start Class 3 District 9 football action. Game time is set for 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 6-1 record. Last night in 7th and 8th grade football, The B team defeated West Plains, 16-6. Scoring for the Tigers was Jacob Kettner with a 50-yard run in the first half and Andrew Conaway added the two-point conversion. Sammy Ibrahim added a 46-yard run in the third quarter and also added the two-point conversion. The B team was 5 and 0 this year. The A team ended up tying West Plains with Jared Shorey scoring from 14 yards out with less than a minute to go to make the game 6 to 6 which is where it ended. The A team ended the year 4-1-1. Congratulations Tigers!!!

The Missouri Tigers will be in action tomorrow against Kansas State starting at 12:00 on KSMO. The Tigers enter the game with a 6-1 record and 2-1 in the Big 12.

The St. Louis Blues will host Vancouver tonight and will be in Chicago tomorrow night. KSMO will carry the third period of the game tonight after Tiger Football. The Blues are 2-3-1 on the year.
