An accident happened at 8:30 Thursday morning in Iron County that took the life of a man from Boss. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Jeep Rubicon driven by 61-year old Steve Jimmerson of Boss was traveling southbound on Highway 49 about two miles south of Viburnum. The Jeep traveled off the right side of the roadway, the driver overcorrected and traveled off the left side of the roadway striking trees. Acting Coroner Sheriff Roger Medley pronounced Jimmerson dead at the scene at 9:45. Jimmerson was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Jeep Rubicon was totaled and removed from the scene by Abney’s Wrecker Service.

On Saturday, October 11th, the Dent County Sheriff’s Office along with assistance with the Salem Police Department executed a search warrant in the 400 block of County Road 2313. Information that led to the search warrant was gained during a narcotics investigation over the past two months. While executing the warrant, suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was located throughout the residence. As a result of the items found, Alec Holweg of Salem, Angelia Holweg of Salem, and Carl Neff of Bourbon were arrested. Alec Holweg and Carl Neff are currently being held in the Dent County Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond. Angelia Holweg is currently being held on a $25,000 cash only bond. All have been charged with Possession of a controlled substance as well as child endangerment charges. This information is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The Dent County Commission met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said a work crew would be repairing Dent County 6180 which is a chip and seal road, They will be repairing a weak spot in the road to make a permanent repair that will stabilize the road. Purcell reported grading would be done on county roads 2480, 5220, 5450 and 6575 while brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5630 and 5670. He also stated ditches would be cleaned out on county road 4220. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3335, 3370, 4020 and 4030, while materials would be added to county road 4290. Larson said the workers have poured the deck on the bridge for Dent County Road 3210 and MoDOT wants to wait about 7 to 14 days after they have taken samples before the bridge opens. The county hopes to have the bridge open by November 1st. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported on the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting held last Thursday at the MRPC and said they received updates on MoDOT construction projects, and counties will be working on the next statewide transportation improvements plan, known at STIP. He reported on the MRPC Board meeting. They received their annual audit and everything was good. Skiles wants to remind everyone there will be a special electronics and tire collection behind the City Building at 3rd and Grand on Saturday from 9:00 to 1:00. There is a $5.00 cost for monitors and TV’s. There is no charge for all other electronics like CPUs, laptops, DVD players, CD players, cell phones, etc. There is a $1.50 charge for passenger tires, $5.00 charge for truck tires and $10 for tractor tires. You must be able to unload the items you take to the collection yourself or have adequate help. Skiles did say the invitations to the Annual MRPC Awards Dinner have been sent out and need to be returned for those who plan to attend by October 30th. The cost is $30 per person. Skiles did want to remind everyone to check those CenturyLink bills to make sure that your sales tax is going to Dent County. Just because you were able to get this corrected before if it was wrong, does not mean that the sales tax hasn’t been switched to a different county. If you do find that the sales taxes are going to a different county and you live in Dent County, call 1-800-786-6272 or 1-866-579-7885. Skiles said you may have to be persistent with the customer service reps, but insist on having those taxes changed and they can change them. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley is reminding everyone absentee voting will continue at her office until November 3rd at 5:00, and her office will be open on November 1st from 8:00 AM until noon for absentee voting. She also said if anyone has had an address or name change to please come to her office before November 3rd to get that corrected. The commission opened bids at 10:00 for propane and received only one bid for 3,500 gallons of propane and that was from Ferrelgas for $1.67 a gallon with a “Keep Full” status. The commission approved the bid by a 3-0 vote. The next meeting of the county commissioners will be held Monday at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center located at 202 South Main in Salem is still hosting the exhibit, “Artists in the Woods” now through Friday, October 31st. Everything from intricate carvings to massive furniture and fishing lures, to kitchen bowls have all been fashioned from wood. Talent and creativity abounds within the displays, celebrating the versatility of wood, one of the Ozarks greatest renewable resources. The Artists in the Woods exhibit will be on display Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information call the ONCRC at 729-0029.

The Salem Football Tigers will host the Cabool Bulldogs tonight in the final regular season game starting at 7:00. It is Senior Night where five senior will be saluted prior to the game. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers have been seeded 8th in the Class 3, District 8 tournament and they will play the second seeded Sullivan Lady Eagles at 6:15 on Monday, October 20th at Union. The winner will play Tuesday, October 21st at 6:15 against the winner of the St. James and Owensville match.

Travis Ishikawa stroked a dramatic three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday night to lead the San Francisco Giants into the World Series for the third time in five years as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-3. Matt Adams and Tony Cruz homered for the Red Birds while Adam Wainright was solid for 7 innings. Michael Wacha in his first appearance in the playoffs took the loss.

Jonathan Quick made 43 saves during regulation and overtime and three more in the shootout to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. Jeff Carter scored the lone goal of the shootout. The Blues will be in Phoenix Saturday night at 8:00. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio joined in progress after Missouri Tiger Football.

Funeral services for Charles “Bud” Haas will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be held at the church Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Donald E. Coleman of Leasburg, age 81, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery.

Graveside services for Kenneth Mowrey of Salem will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary.
