The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2400, 2460, 5100, 5103, 5105, 5520 and 5530, while brush will be cut on Dent County Road 5410. Purcell said that downed tree limbs from the weekend are being removed from Dent County Road 6180 and that repairs are being made to Loader #3. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that some areas of his district received up to three inches of rain this weekend and crews are out checking for washouts in areas hardest hit, plus crews will be grading numerous county roads. He also stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2530, 3260 and 3280, and that a worker would be screening brown rock. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles attended the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting last Thursday in St. James and reported they discussed the road project priorities of the region and of the individual counties. Overall for the region, the priority is to still make Highway 63 and Highway 50 four lane with the major emphasis on Highway 63. He said that in the local areas, the #1 priority voted on by members of the TAC is replacing the one-lane Highway 19 Bridge in Southern Crawford County over Crooked Creek, and the #5 priority would be replacing the Standing Rock Bridge on Highway 19 over Gladden Creek. He also attended the Public Housing Authority meeting and said that Dent County has 96 units under the HUD voucher program that come to $286,000 in rental assistance. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that absentee voting continues through November 5th during regular business hours at her office as well as on Saturday, November 3rd from 8:00 to noon. She said that the last day to request a mail-out ballot will be October 31st, and that sample ballots are available at her office for anyone who would like to pick one up. They are free. Curley said that she held a voter registration at the high school last week and had two students sign up. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at the courthouse at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of September. During the month, they wrote two equipment repair orders, 16 summons to appear in court, 13 warning tickets, and 23 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 13 accidents, four assaults, one burglary, three reports of disorderly conduct, three reports of domestic assaults, six reports of domestic violence, four reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of driving while revoked, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, one report of fraudulent use of a credit and/or debit device, four reports of a lost and/or stolen license plate and one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants. The department also investigated one report of a missing and/or runaway juvenile, one report of a probate violation, eight reports of property damage, one report of resisting and/or interfering with arrest, two reports of sexual misconduct, 18 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, one report of trespassing, one report of violation/exparte and/or full order of protection and one 96 hour commitment. They also investigated two reports of distribution of a controlled substance, four reports of possession of marijuana, three reports of possession of opium or derivative, seven reports of possession of drug paraphernalia and one report of possession of synthetic drugs. The Salem Police Department conducted one death investigation during the month. The police department received 1,733 calls for service during the month, handled 145 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 100 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 16 hours in court testifying, seven hours as court bailiff and spent six hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in September included 30 calls for escorts, one call for a prowler, five calls for a suspicious persons and/or vehicle, 11 calls for intoxicated pedestrians, 13 calls for domestic disputes and two wreckers were needed. There were 10 911 calls, seven calls for a peace disturbance, eight calls for alarms sounding, five calls for fights in progress, 10 ambulance assist calls, and two calls for property damage. The Salem Police drove a total of 7,820 miles and arrested 18 males and 9 females during September.
A special waste collection for electronics will be held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 20th at the Salem S/W Construction parking lot, at the corner of Third Street and Grand in Salem. The Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District and the City of Salem, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Meramec Regional Planning Commission, are offering the collection. Computer CPUs, keyboards, printers, microwaves, VCRs, cell phones, and other electronics will be collected for free. A $5 fee will be charged for the collection of televisions and computer monitors. Participants must unload all items. No items from businesses will be accepted. The collection is open to any households in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski, and Washington Counties. The Missouri State Highway Patrol released their arrest reports from this past weekend. On Saturday, October 13th at 7:25 in the evening, 32-year old Travis Walker of Rolla was arrested and charged with a felony of a DWI-Aggravated Offender, a second time offense of driving while revoked, and unlawful operations of an ATV on the highway. He was held in the Dent County Jail and released. On Sunday, October 14th at 3:08 in the morning, 25-year old James Nix of Licking was arrested and charged with a DWI and driving while revoked. He was released. At 4:11 that same morning, 23-year old Cory Young of Salem was arrested in Crawford County and charged with a DWI-Prior Offender and careless and imprudent driving. He was held in the Crawford County Jail and released.

The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball team got their second win of the year on Monday, as they beat Plato in three sets. Salem will wrap up their regular season tonight when they host Mountain View at 6:00 at the SHS gym for Senior Night.
Marco Scutaro hit a two-run single as part of a four-run fourth inning and Ryan Vogelsong tossed seven frames of one-run ball in the San Francisco Giants' 7-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series. Chris Carpenter only lasted four innings giving up five runs, two earned, while walking two and striking out one. Carpenter’s RBI double was the Cardinals’ lone run. Game Three of the NLCS will be Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 on KSMO Radio 1340 AM.

Funeral services for Virginia Black of Salem, age 84, will be held today at 1:30 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:30 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem.
Funeral services for Nina Rae Farrow of Cassville and formerly of Salem, age 81, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery in Dent County. Memorials may be made to the Green Forest Cemetery.
