The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for October 10th. At 3:40 in the morning, while conducting a follow up investigation at Shawnee Mac Lakes, two Dent County Sheriff's Deputies observed a vehicle entering the conservation area. The vehicle was stopped and upon approaching the vehicle the deputies noticed a strong chemical odor emitting from inside the vehicle. Also, observed in the back of the vehicle were chemicals and various items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine. The subjects were removed from the vehicle and a search was conducted. Taken into evidence was a glass light bulb which field tested positive for methamphetamine, used coffee filters with residue, black ink pen snorting device which field tested positive for methamphetamine, used syringes, two glass smoking devices which field tested positive for methamphetamine, and various other items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine. As a result of the investigation, a 35-year old male, a 44-year old male, a 28-year old female, and a 36-year old female were taken into custody. Warrants were issued for a 28-year old female charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. Her bond is set a $7000.00. Warrants were issued for the 44-year old male and he is being charged with Possession of Chemicals with Intent to Manufacture a Controlled Substance, Possess Controlled Substance, Unlawful use of Drug Paraphernalia, and Manufacturing a Controlled Substance. Bond is set at $25,000.00. On October 10^th at 9:10 in the evening, Dent County Sheriff's Deputies assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a narcotics investigation at an apartment on North Main Street in Salem. A search of the residence was conducted and taken into evidence were a white tablet identified as Alprazolam, glass-smoking device, rolling papers, marijuana stems and seeds, green leafy plant matter, marijuana roaches and a pipe with marijuana residue. Charges are pending.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the District Administrative Offices Boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the consent agenda and communications, Superintendent Steve Bryant will discuss the September membership count, the SCA September 22^nd professional development day report, and go over the bond issue committee progress. Bryant will also give a safety/crisis committee update, discuss the administrative office property annexation into the city limits, address the schools first initiative and other election issues, and give a PTO update. In new business, the Board will discuss the CIA/Cross-Curricular instruction and higher order thinking skills program. There will be a couple of program evaluations on guidance and counseling, and instructional effectiveness. The Title 1 of the elementary and secondary education act (ESEA) resolution will then be discussed before the Board addresses the 403(b) plan, the MUSIC renewal, 2007-2008 auditor report and hear resignations. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel and discipline. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The city of Salem’s recycling day this month will be a special waste collection, as they will be accepting electronics, appliances and waste tires from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 18^th at the parking lot located at Third and Grand in Salem. The special collection is sponsored by the city of Salem, Dent County Commission and Meramec Regional Planning Commission, in partnership with the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Appliances—including stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, hot water heaters and other unwanted white goods—will be accepted free of charge. Fees will be charged for tire and televisions. Passenger tires will be $1.50 each; truck tires will be $5 each; and tractor tires will be $10 each. Televisions will be $10 each. You must unload the items yourself. The collection is open to any households in the Ozark Rivers District, including Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties. MRPC is working with a scrap dealer in the region to properly handle appliances, and tires will be recycled into tire-derived fuel. A Springfield company will recycle electronics. The solid waste management district will also have educational information available at the collection that will help residents deal with other types of waste, including household hazardous waste. No household hazardous waste will be accepted at this collection. However, the Ozark River District, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the cities of Rolla and St. Robert, has established satellite HHW drop-off disposal facilities. Persons needing to dispose of household hazardous waste can make an appointment with the Rolla Recycling Center, (573) 364-6693.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host Mountain Grove tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV game. In between the JV and varsity games, the seniors will be saluted along with their parents. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Dallas Stars tonight staring at 7:30. KSMO will join the game in progress immediately after the Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball game.

Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a homer and Cole Hamels was in complete control on the mound, as the Philadelphia Phillies shut down the Dodgers, 5-1, finishing off Los Angeles in five games in the NLCS.

The Tamp Bay Rays will try to finish off their series with Boston in the ALCS tonight as they lead three games to one.

St. Louis Cardinals have claimed left-handed relief pitcher Charlie Manning off waivers from Washington and added him to the 40 player roster.. They then designated first baseman Josh Phelps for assignment.

Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with linebacker Rocky Boiman.
