An accident occurred on Saturday at 5:30 in the evening in Dent County on Dent County Road 2020 about 1.5 miles west of Lecoma. According to the highway patrol report, a 1984 Honda ATV 200 S, driven by 16-year old Jay Atherton of Rolla, traveled off the right side of the roadway and the ATV overturned before coming to rest. Atherton was ejected from the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. He was transported by the Salem Ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Honda sustained minor damages and was removed by the owner.
An accident occurred on Friday at 4:36 in the afternoon in Crawford County on Highway 8 at Highway TT. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2002 Dodge Neon driven by 50-year old Leona Jones of Steelville crossed over the centerline almost into the eastbound lanes while turning onto Highway TT. The Dodge then struck an eastbound 2005 BMW Motorcycle ridden by 49-year old Mathias Meise of Key Largo, Florida. Jones left the scene by continuing west on Highway 8 while Meise traveled into the ditch, with the motorcycle overturning on it’s side. Meise suffered minor injuries and sought his own treatment. The Dodge Neon sustained minor damages, while the BMW Motorcycle sustained moderate damage. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol released it’s arrest reports for Wednesday and Friday, October 10th and 12th, for residents of Dent County. On October 10th at 11:43 in the morning in Phelps County, 50-year old Barbara Jamison of Salem was arrested and charged with a felony warrant out of Phelps County for possession with intent to distribute. She is being held in the Phelps County Jail on bond. On October 12th at 8:25 in the evening in Dent County, 22-year old Joseph Simmons of Salem was arrested and charged with a DWI (Drugs) Misdemeanor, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and no proof of insurance. He was held in the Dent County Jail and released.
On October 10th at 6:00 in the morning, members of the South Central Drug Task Force, in coordination with the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Rolla Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, concluded a long-term narcotics investigation in Phelps County with a total of 34 arrests with most charges being the distribution of a controlled substance. Over the course of approximately 12 months, officers were able to conduct a series of narcotics investigations involving the distribution, sales and possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and prescription medications. The investigation involved loosely affiliated individuals in and around the Phelps County area. Arrest teams consisted of members of the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, St. James Police Department, Rolla Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The South Central Drug Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional drug task force coordinated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The Salem Police Department has released several theft reports. On Thursday, September 27th at 3:03 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Classic Joy Ride in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a blue 2007 Chevrolet truck valued at $7,000, a set of 4 Corvette rally wheels valued at $1,000, 7 automotive batteries valued at $200, and did $1,400 worth of damage to a steering column of a vehicle. Later that evening at 9:28, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 56-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Saturday, September 29th at 3:55 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took two potted flowers valued at $16 from the porch of a residence in the 800 block of East Center. Later that evening at 5:16, an officer was dispatched to a room at the Walnut Motel in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone entered an apartment by force and then took $10 cash and a video component valued at $1,000. Jaolin Acklin threw for two touchdowns, ran for another and caught a pass for a touchdown as the Mountain View/Liberty Eagles defeated Salem Friday night by the score of 33-20 sending the Tigers to their third straight defeat. Brady Floyd scored three touchdowns for the Tigers and finished with 113 yards rushing. Zane Kyser added 138 yards rushing for Salem who falls to 5-3 on the year and they are 3-3 in the SCA. Salem will finish up their regular season Friday night when they host Cabool.
The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball team will play at Plato tonight at 6:00. Salem is looking for their second win of the year.
There will be a 12th Tiger Club meeting at 5:00 this afternoon at the High School Football Field to finalize plans for Friday night’s Senior Night.
It took the largest comeback in a do-or-die game in postseason history on Friday, but the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals are back in the NLCS for the second consecutive year. The Cardinals came roaring back with four runs in the final frame to lift the Cardinals to a 9-7 victory over the Washington Nationals in the deciding Game 5 of their NLDS. In Game One of the NLCS on Sunday, David Freese and Carlos Beltran each hit a two-run homer to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the San Francisco Giants, 6-4, at AT&T Park. Game Two of the NLCS will be held tonight at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.
Eddie Lacy rushed for three touchdowns, as the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide cruised past the Missouri Tigers, 42-10. Corbin Berkstresser threw for 126 yards and two interceptions for the Tigers (3-4, 0-4), who had just three rushing yards compared to 362 for Alabama. Missouri will host Kentucky on Saturday.
The Miami Dolphins withstood a late St. Louis rally to emerge with a 17-14 win over the Rams on Sunday. Bradford had 315 yards on 26-of-39 passing for St. Louis (3-3), which outgained Miami 462-192 but squandered opportunities for points and struggled to reach the end zone. The Rams play the Packers on Sunday.
Josh Freeman passed for three touchdowns as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stomped the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-10, on Sunday. Brady Quinn passed for 180 yards and two interceptions for the Chiefs (1-5), who are off to their worst start since 2009. The Chiefs are off this week.
