The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports for October 8^th and 9th. On October 8^th at 12:46 in the afternoon, a Dent County Sheriff's Deputy while on routine patrol on Dent County Road 3235, observed a vehicle stopped in the lane of traffic. Upon approaching the vehicle, he noted that a female was lumped in the seat, unconscious. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 50-year old female. She subject was charged with DWI-Alcohol Persistent Offender.  Bond was set at $4,000.00. On October 8^th at approximately 3:23 that afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a report of a stolen trailer from a residence located off of Dent County Road 2330. The incident was reported to have occurred sometime within the last month. The trailer is described as a black 16 foot JAMA flat bed tandem. On October 9^th at 11:09 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a report from Green Forest School that two signs and posts had been stolen from the driveway. One sign was an Entrance sign and the other an Exit sign. The incident was reported to have occurred between October 6^th and 7^th. Anyone with any information regarding the theft, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of September. During the month, they wrote 16 traffic tickets, and eight warning tickets. They also served 36 summons to appear in court. The Salem Police Department investigated 16 accidents, six assaults, one domestic assault, and two reports of driving while intoxicated. The Police Department also investigated 18 reports of stealing, 10 reports of property damage, one report of tampering, two burglaries, one report of a missing or runaway juvenile, one missing persons report, one peace disturbance report, two reports of unlawful use of a weapon, and seven reports of disorderly conduct. They also investigated three reports of possession of marijuana, two reports of possession of drugs amphetamine, and one report of possession of drug paraphernalia.  The police received 1,910 calls for service during the month and handled 188 walk-ins to the station. The Salem Police Department redirected 87 calls to the animal control officer. They also spent 13 hours in court testifying, four hours as court bailiff and spent 12 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in September included 14 calls for escorts, 14 9-1-1 calls, four intoxicated driver investigation calls, four calls for a suspicious person or vehicle, four calls for prowlers, 11 calls for peace disturbances, 14 ambulance assist calls, nine calls for alarms sounding, five calls for fights in progress, 10 domestic dispute calls, one fire call and six wreckers were needed. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 9,635 miles during the month of September. For the month of September, the Salem Police Department arrested 19 males and 6 females.

The Lennis Broadfoot Exhibit is currently being featured at the Ozark National Scenic Riverways’ Van Buren Visitor Center now through December 2008. Mr. Broadfoot, a native of Shannon County and a self-taught artist, expressed a passion for the Ozarks and its people through his beautiful art. Although his sketches were inspired from travels throughout the United States, Broadfoot’s roots were planted firmly in the Ozarks. His main goal was to preserve an accurate record of the pioneers of the hills, their unique customs of living, and a life that was very different from anything known to modern people. The Broadfoot Exhibit also features the outstanding art of the Van Buren 4th grade class. The students studied the life of Lennis Broadfoot, his art and his love for the Ozarks.  After gaining an understanding of his enthusiasm for the people and culture of Ozarks, they began thinking about a person that has made an impression upon them. The students then created charcoal sketches, as Mr. Broadfoot did, to bring their images to life. The 9th grade football Tigers lost to the Borgia Knights 13-8 Monday night. The Knights scored once in the first quarter and once in the third.  Salem scored on a 45 yard run by Justin Moore, and J.R. Rictor added the 2-point conversion. The 9^th grade Tigers finish the season next Monday night against Owensville at home at 5:00.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers dropped an SCA match Tuesday night at the SHS gym in three games. Salem won the first game, 25-19, then lost 18-25 and 12-25. It was Netcoming last night at the gym and Yousef Ibrahim was named as the Netcoming King before the varsity game. Salem will finish up their home regular season Thursday night against Mountain Grove. It will be Senior Night between the JV and varsity games.

Willy Aybar and Carl Crawford combined for nine hits and drove in seven runs, as the Tampa Bay Rays again battered the Boston Red Sox, 13-4, in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, putting the defending World Series champions on the brink of playoff elimination. Before this year, the Rays never had a winning record. Now, they're one win away from their first World Series appearance, taking a commanding 3-1 lead in the ALCS. The Rays and Red Sox will play tomorrow night.

St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to terms on contracts for 2009 with first-base coach Dave McKay, third-base coach Jose Oquendo, hitting coach Hal McRae, bench coach Joe Pettini and bullpen coach Marty Mason.

The University of Missouri has signed baseball coach Tim Jamieson to a five-year contract extension through 2013.

The Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly shopping perennial Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez and star running back Larry Johnson but failed to move either of the two high profile players before the 4 p.m. deadline. Johnson is in hot water again, this time reportedly facing a simple assault charge for pushing a woman at a Kansas City nightclub. A Kansas City newspaper obtained court and police documents and reported the 26- year-old woman accused Johnson of using his open hand to push the left side of her head. Johnson faces a December court date for the incident, which occurred February 24 of this year.
