The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report in District 1, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 6210, 6320, 6400 and 6460. Simpson stated that materials would be hauled to Dent County Road 6070, and brush was going to be cut on Dent County Roads 6170 and 6370. Simpson also reported that the Road and Bridge Department’s budget after three quarters of the year is 72% spent, or just about where it should be. This is remarkable in the fact that many county roads have had major repairs made to them from the storms. In District 2, Commissioner J.J. Tune said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2160, 2590, 2593, 2600, 3020 and 3050. Tune stated that materials would be hauled to Dent County Roads 3080 and 3115, and that workers would be using the dura-patcher to finish patching the chip and seal roads. Presiding Commissioner Skiles reported that he attended a TAC meeting at the MRPC last Thursday and MoDOT set their priorities for the state for the next 20 years, and reported that if they could do everything that they need to do, MoDOT would be about 13 billion dollars short of expected revenues. Some of the projects they want to do include rebuilding Interstate 44 and making Highway 63 a four-lane highway from the Iowa to the Arkansas line. He said that three bridges in Dent County are scheduled to be replaced: the one-lane bridge on Route H, the bridge on Route NN and the Spring Creek Bridge on Highway 32-72 East. Skiles will attend an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District meeting on Tuesday, and he wanted to remind the commissioners of the electronic recycling that is to be held this Saturday from 9:00 to 1:00 at Third and Grand Streets in Salem. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that as of Monday morning, there have been 420 absentee ballots cast or mailed out, and the last day to have an absentee ballot mailed out will be Wednesday, October 29th. She said you can absentee vote at the courthouse until November 3rd, and if you are not sure of where you are supposed to vote or you have moved since the last election and need to find out where you are supposed to vote, go by the Dent County Clerk’s Office in the Dent County Courthouse. Jerry Clemens also came by the meeting to discuss a problem he is having access a county road with the National Forest Service in order to remove some timber. Clemens has property that lies in both Dent and Iron County. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform pavement repairs on Route 72 in Dent and Phelps Counties today and Wednesday, October 14th and 15th. The work will take place between the intersections of Highway 32 and Route KK. Workers and equipment will be on the roadway between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. For additional information regarding this or other transportation-related topics, call the MoDOT Customer Service Center, toll-free, at 1-888-ASK MoDOT (275-6636).
