The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Monday, October 6^th at 7:13 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of South Jackson in reference a disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed that a 24-year old Salem female had an active warrant for her arrest from Dent County. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was transferred to the Dent County Sheriff’s Department. At 9:00 that same morning, an officer was detailed to the Ranch Motel in reference to theft and property damage. The investigation of the report revealed that a 29-year old Salem female had taken two blankets valued at $80.00 and caused approximately $100.00 damage to a door. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 9:20 the same morning, a vehicle was involved in an accident and the police were contacted. The investigation of the accident led to the arrest of a 51-year old Salem female for driving while drugged. She was released pending lab results. On Wednesday, October 8^th at 5:06 in the evening, an officer was sent to the Fifth Street Pub in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 49-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 8:10 that evening, an officer was dispatched to the 1500 block of West Dale in reference to a 53-year old Salem female who had an active City of Salem warrant. The officer made contact with the suspect and served the warrant. The suspect was incarcerated on the warrant.

An accident happened at 5:00 Thursday evening in Phelps County on Route M about five miles west of Edgar Springs that took the life of an Ellington woman. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Chevrolet driven by 45-year old Susan Buxton of Ellington was traveling westbound on Route M, around a curve and skidded out of control. The Chevrolet skidded off the left edge of the roadway and overturned several times. Buxton was ejected from the Chevrolet and pronounced dead at the scene at 6:48 by Phelps County Coroner Larry Swinfard. Buxton was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet was totaled and removed from the scene by Lucas Garage of Edgar Springs. Buxton’s funeral services were Sunday at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellington.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will conduct a public auction of surplus property at the Salem Maintenance Center located at the Junctions of Highways 32 & 72. Pre-registration will be held this Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Registration the day of the sale, Saturday, October 18^th, begins at 7:30 am. The surplus property sale will then begin 10:00 am. The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their meeting last Tuesday night. After approval of the consent agenda, Treasurer Dave Wells noted that the CD for reimbursements would mature and be placed into a money market fund till reimbursement checks are written next month. The CD is for $24,000 and reimbursements are at an all time high of $26,752.50 and the budget may have to be amended to compensate for the higher number of calls for the year. A discussion was then held on the 2009 budget, which is still in the works. A total of 48 calls came in the month of September for a record of 312 calls year-to-date. Of the calls in September 33.9% were vehicle related, 14.7% were structure related and 9.9% were brush fires. Discussion was then held on the disposal of old fire hose, with no action taken at this time. There was also a discussion on Ladder 81, which is still in Nebraska for repair, and there was no action taken on the sale of Engine 82, which is in the works to find the best possible way to spend the least amount of money. Fire Chief Brad Nash reported that insurance billing for emergency response had been implemented and some monies have been received to offset the cost of operation. Chief Nash then held a discussion on an ordinance for the billing of emergency vehicle response reimbursement, asking the Board to adopt an ordinance and Liz Gruendel would draft an ordinance to present at the next meeting. The Board then reviewed policies and corrections for the district and approved the changes made at the last meeting. Chief Nash and Board member Liz Gruendel then presented the USDA grant to the Board to approve. The grant will be asking for a total of $121,589 on a 55/45 match, and was approved by the Board. The next meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will be held on Tuesday, November 4^th at 6:00 PM.

Yousef Ibrahim scored three touchdowns finishing with 183 yards rushing as the Salem Tigers crushed the Houston Tigers Friday night, 55-20. Derek Freeman scored twice and rushed for 108 yards, and Kevin Presley scored on two touchdown passes as Salem rolled up almost 600 yards in offense to go to 6-1 on the year and finish up their SCA record at 5-1. Salem travels to Owensville this Friday night.

Zac Robinson threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score as the No. 17 Oklahoma State Cowboys knocked off third-ranked Missouri, 28-23, in a pivotal cross-divisional clash with both Big 12 and national championship implications. Chase Daniel was picked off three times on 39-of-52 passing for 390 yards. He threw for one score and ran for 46 yards on seven attempts. Derrick Washington and Jimmy Jackson both had rushing touchdowns. Chase Coffman had 11 receptions for 104 yards while Jeremy Maclin hauled in eight passes for 120 yards for the Tigers (5-1, 1-1), who missed a golden opportunity to keep pace in the polls and their own conference standings.

Josh Brown's 49-yard field goal as time expired led the St. Louis Rams to their first win of the season and made Jim Haslett a winner in his coaching debut with a surprising 19-17 victory over the Washington Redskins. Brown finished 4-for-4 on field goal attempts (51, 25, 44, 49) for the Rams (1-4), who had lost their last eight games. Bulger went 15-for-26 with 136 yards while Donnie Avery finished the game with four catches for 73 yards for St. Louis, which has won its last two games against Washington.

The Blues lost to the New York Islanders Saturday night, 5-2. Keith Tkachuk and Brad Boyes scored for St. Louis, which was coming off a 5-2 opening night win over the Nashville Predators Friday night. The Blues will be in Toronto for a noon game today and you can hear the contest on KSMO Radio.
