The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 640 and 637, and a culvert would be installed on Dent County Road 517. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on various roads between Anutt and Lenox, and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 250. Dale Harris attended the meeting to request that Dent County Road 437 be widened and white rock be added due to the amount of traffic. Commissioner Tune said that a traffic counter would be placed on the road and that way the county can see what needs to be done. Kevin Sybert attended to ask Commisioner Tune if trees could be removed from a sharp curve on Dent County Road 252 to make driving conditions safer. Commissioner Tune said that it would not be a problem and he would send a crew out there to look things over. A concerned citizen attended the meeting to request that the approach to Route H from Dent County Road 259 be built up to make turning onto the highway safer. The approach now is steep and vehicles cannot get good traction when turning onto the highway. Commissioner Tune said the approach could possibly be moved or asphalted by the state. He said he would need to check into it a little more before any actions are taken. Commissioner Bobby Simpson made the motion to end all talks and plans about adopting a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan with MRPC. Simpson said that the public has spoken and it is not something that they want. Commissioners Tune and Biggs agreed with Simpson and both seconded the motion. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports for the last few days in September involving leaving the scene of an accident, a DWI and shoplifting. On September 26th at 11:36 in the evening, an officer was detailed to Franklin and Washington Streets in reference to a leaving the scene of an accident report. The report revealed that a red Ford Escort Wagon had struck a maroon Plymouth Voyager Minivan which was parked and unoccupied. The driver of the Red Ford Escort left the scene and upon further investigation was arrested for driving while intoxicated and was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. On September 28th at 11:56 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School in reference to a drug violation. The report revealed that a 14-year old male juvenile was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was detained then later released to his parent as well as referred to the juvenile officer. On September 29th at 5:01 in the evening, an officer was detailed to WalMart in reference to shoplifting. The report revealed that a 36-year old male and 28-year old female both from St. James had attempted to steal merchandise valued at $117.00. Both were arrested and incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On September 30th at 1:29 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the detention of a 16-year old male juvenile for driving while intoxicated. Arrested was a 17-year old male passenger for a minor in possession of intoxicants. The juvenile was released to his parent and will be referred to the juvenile officer. The adult male was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later the same morning at 8:29, an officer was detailed to the area of Magnolia Drive in reference to thefts from vehicles. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered approximately 28 unlocked vehicles taking various items from them. The total value of the property taken from the vehicles is approximately $5,906.00 This report is still under investigation. The Salem Tigers will host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles in their final game before district play starting at 7:00. Tonight is homecoming with the festivities held prior to the game. The only way to hear the game live tonight is online on ksmoradio.com, prepcasts.com and americacast.net. KSMO will play the game back on a taped delayed basis after the Cardinal baseball game. Salem enters the game with a 5-1 record and 3-1 in the SCA.

Tom Glavine threw seven spectacular innings and combined with two relievers on a four-hit shutout, and Carlos Beltran clubbed a two-run homer in the sixth to boost the Mets to a 2-0 victory over St. Louis in the opener of the National League Championship Series. Glavine (2-0) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out a pair of batters to capture his 14th postseason victory, tying him with Andy Pettitte for second-most all-time. Guillermo Mota threw the eighth inning and Billy Wagner pitched the ninth for the save. Jeff Weaver (1-1) also pitched well, but made a big mistake on an inside pitch to Beltran and suffered the loss. Weaver yielded four hits, walked two and struck out one before being lifted with two outs in the sixth. Chris Carpenter will start tonight's Game 2 for the Cardinals, while rookie John Maine will head to the mound for the Mets.

Lee Stempniak's shootout goal lifted St. Louis to a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins, as the Blues introduced their fans to the newly-named Scottrade Center. Stempniak also scored in the third period for the Blues, whose home-opener victory, which was played in front of the new Blues ownership group, was their first win of the 2006-07 season. Jamal Mayers also scored for the Blues and goaltender Manny Legace made 16 saves in the win.

A funeral mass for Robert (Bob) Leo Wethington of Rolla, age 74 will be held today at 2:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Newman Center or Russell House.

Gary James Tune of Salem, age 58, passed away October 10th in Lebanon. Mr. Tune was cremated and a private interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Gary Tune Family and arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements for Edna Marie (Ellis) Griffith of Farmington, age 81, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuay Chapel. Visitation is from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or the Presbyterian Hospice of Farmington.
