The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5550, 5690, 6190 and 6220, while rock was going to be added to Dent County Road 6435. Purcell reported that the contractors are now in full swing in the replacement of the Swiney Bridge near Bunker as the old bridge was to have been removed Thursday. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that he has two men doing grader training while four others will be grading on Dent County Roads 3350, 3370 and 4280; while materials will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Roads 2200 and 2210. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended a Transportation Advisory Committee meeting, a Public Housing Authority board meeting, an MRPC External Relations Committee meeting where plans were finalized for the MRPC annual awards dinner plus legislative priorities were discussed, before attending the Meramec Regional Planning Commission regular meeting. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that if you have had a name or address change, to please contact her office at 729-4144 so that you can know where you are supposed to vote in the general election. She also said that the last date to request a ballot to be mailed out would be October 31st. She also stated that absentee voting continues until November 5th at her office in the courthouse, and that absentee voting will also be held on Saturday, November 3rd from 8:00 in the morning until noon at the courthouse. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held on Monday, October 15th at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.
The Council for a Healthy Dent County (HDC) is proud to announce that it has been chosen to receive tax credits through the Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). NAP helps not-for-profit organizations raise private-sector funds by providing partial state tax credits to businesses that make contributions to approved community improvement projects. Through NAP, businesses and individuals with business income can donate cash, materials, supplies, or equipment; technical assistance and professional services; labor; real estate; or stocks and bonds. Donations received through NAP will benefit Healthy Dent County as they renovate and expand the Salem Freedom Activity Center into a Community Center. Credits can equal 70 percent of the total amount contributed, providing a state tax savings for businesses and individuals who participate, while making a difference in the lives of the citizens of Dent County. HDC has been approved for $347,620 in NAP tax credits. HDC willconduct a capital campaign for the $500,000 needed to begin the renovation of the Salem Freedom Activity Center (former National Guard Armory) located at 1200 W. Rolla Road. The benefit to Dent County residents will be a permanent Community Center that will provide recreational and health benefits for all ages. In this first phase the $500,000 raised will renovate the gym into a multi use area, consolidate and expand the Salem Fitness Center, improve the entrances, add a concession stand and renovate the bathrooms. Other stages will be completed when additional grants are received and include a walking track, new additional gymnasium, family recreation area, racquetball court, climbing wall, outdoorwalking track, therapy/lap pool, endless current pool and meeting rooms. Contributions made by businesses to the Council for a Healthy Dent County will provide several tax advantages to the donor. In addition to lowering the donor’s Federal and State taxable income, the State of Missouri allows 70% tax credit against the donor’s Missouri income tax. The Public Water Supply District #1 of Dent County will conduct their monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 16
th at the Dent County Community Center beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, the minutes from the previous meeting and disbursements, the Board will review reports including a financial report, the water testing report, a bookkeeping report and a president’s report. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. This meeting of is open to the public.

The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball team lost to Thayer in three sets on Thursday. Salem took the first set 25-17, but dropped the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-22. The Lady Tigers will next play in the Ozark Grand Slam on Saturday.

Jayson Werth kept the Washington Nationals' season alive in dramatic fashion, belting a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the National League East champions a thrilling 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of their NL Division Series from Nationals Park. Kyle Lohse surrendered only one run and two hits while striking out five over a sharp seven-inning stint for St. Louis. Allen Craig had two of the Cardinals' three hits in Thursday's pitchers duel, with Carlos Beltran knocking in the team's lone run with a sacrifice fly. Game 5 of the NLDS will be held tonight and will feature Adam Wainwright pitching against Gio Gonzalez. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio at 7:02. The winner will advance to face the San Francisco Giants in the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
The Missouri Tiger Football team will be hosting top ranked Alabama on Saturday. Missouri is 3-3 on the year and 0-3 in the SEC. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO Radio at 1:30.
The St. Louis Rams will be in Miami to play the Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs will be in Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers on Sunday. The Rams are 3-2 while the Chiefs are 1-3. Both games are set for a noon kick-off.

Funeral services for Roy Vernon Kay of St. Louis, formerly of Bunker, age 94, will be Monday at 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be Monday at 10:00. Interment will be in the Crossville Cemetery.
