The Salem Police Department released their reports for the last week in September involving assaults and disorderly conduct. On September 25th at 11:27 in the evening, an officer was sent to the 300 block of West Ninth in reference to domestic assault, which led to the arrest of a 24-year old Salem male for assaulting an 18-year old Salem female. He was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. On September 26th at 10:02 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to an assault. The report revealed that a 42-year old Salem male had assaulted a 50-year old Salem male. He was arrested and incarcerated pending the appliation of a warrant. On September 27th at 7:08 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to a disturbance. The report revealed the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later the same evening at 9:57, an officer was contacted near the 700 block of East Center in reference to a disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of September. During the month, they wrote 20 traffic tickets, and 16 warning tickets. They served 24 summonses to appear in court and four fugitive warrants. The Salem Police Department investigated 12 accidents, seven assaults, three domestic assaults, and three reports of driving while intoxicated. The Police Department also investigated ten reports of stealing, five reports of property damage, two burglaries, three reports of disorderly conduct, one report of forgery, two reports of a missing/runaway juvenile, three reports of sexual assault, one report of a lost/stolen plate, and one report of leaving the scene of an accident. They also investigated two reports of possession of marijuana, two reports of possession of synthetic drugs, and one report of possession of drug paraphernalia. The police investigated one report of arson. The police received 1,596 calls for service during the month and handled 146 walk-ins to the station. The Salem Police Department redirected 57 calls to the animal control officer. They also spent six hours as court bailiff and spent 12 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in September included 44 calls for escorts, five 9-1-1 calls, six intoxicated driver investigations, one report of a prowler, one call for a suspicious person or vehicle, eight calls for peace disturbances, 12 ambulance assist calls, four calls for alarms sounding, four calls for fights in progress, four domestic dispute calls, two calls for an intoxicated pedestrian, seven fire calls and one wrecker was needed. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 7,161 miles during the month of September. The Salem Police Department arrested 23 males and 9 females for a total of 32 arrests during the month of September.

U.S. Senator Jim Talent (R-Mo.) is sending a representative from his office to Salem as part of his "Missouri Matters" community outreach effort. Jeff Glenn, District Director for Senator Talent's Southeast Missouri Office, will be in Dent County today at 1:30 p.m. at the Dent County Courthouse, located at 400 North Main, to meet with area constituents. The "Missouri Matters" effort is an opportunity for local residents to meet one-on-one with Sen. Talent's staff in neighborhoods across the state to discuss matters important to them or to request assistance with federal matters. He is hopeful local residents will come and share their views and concerns on a wide range of issues with his representative. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at Ava for SCA play tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV contest with the varsity match to follow.

Game 1 of the National League Championship Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets was postponed Wednesday due to rain. The opener of the series will be tonight, with Game 2 now slated for Friday, also at Shea Stadium. St. Louis' Jeff Weaver and New York's Tom Glavine, the scheduled starting pitchers Wednesday, are slated to be on the mound Thursday for the opener of the NLCS. The series shifts to St. Louis for Games 3 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday. A possible Game 5 would be Monday at Busch Stadium.

Alexis Gomez homered and drove in four runs in his first career postseason appearance, as the Tigers continued their amazing run in the playoffs with an 8-5 win over Oakland in Game 2 of the ALCS. Detroit leads the series, 2-0.

Kansas City quarterback Damon Huard and Chiefs place kicker Lawrence Tynes were named the AFC's Week 5 Players of the Week on Wednesday. Huard, the offensive recipient, completed 26-of-38 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the Chiefs' 23-20 win over Arizona. Filling in for injured starter Trent Green, Huard has led Kansas City to consecutive wins and is 7-2 as a starter in his career. Tynes, Huard's teammate, connected on three field goals, including the game-winning 19-yarder with 1:36 remaining, to earn Special Teams Player of the Week accolades. Tynes also hit both of his PATs. This was the first Player of the Week honor for both Tynes and Huard.

Kansas City star running back Larry Johnson didn't practice on Wednesday but is listed as probable for the Chiefs' game against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Johnson was hurt on a facemask tackle in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs' 23-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals last week.

The St. Louis Blues will have their home opener tonight against the Boston Bruins. KSMO will NOT air the contst due to the Cardinal game.

Funeral services for Violet Leona Gibbs of Salem, age 74, will be held today at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rolla Hospice.

A funeral mass for Robert (Bob) Leo Wethington of Rolla, age 74 will be held Friday at 2:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Visitation will be held this evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Newman Center or Russell House.

Gary James Tune of Salem, age 58, passed away October 10th in Lebanon. Mr. Tune was cremated and a private interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Gary Tune Family and arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary.

Funeral arrangements for Edna Marie Griffith of Farmington, age 81, are incomplete at this time and all arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
