The Jadwin Community will come alive Saturday, October 13, at it’s Annual Jadwin School Reunion. A carry-in dinner is planned at noon at the Jadwin School House located one mile off K Highway on BB Highway. BB highway is just before the Jadwin Fire house and Post Office. Storytellers like David and Earl Dean Smith and their sister Marlene Gorman will tell stories about the old School and activities in the Community. Their mother (Mrs. Elvin) Lois Smith wrote the history of the Upper Current Community many years ago. Clifford Jadwin will start the storytelling which will start after lunch around 1 p.m. The Jadwin School House was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) as a two-room school with a lunchroom. The building is constructed of cement with a stone facade, unlike most rural schools made from local lumber. It was very unique in that in the basement was built a kitchen and a lunchroom where hot lunches were served. This history of the Jadwin Community is part of the Dent County Historical Society’s oral history project. Some of the other communities with recorded history include Cedar Grove, Lake Spring, Lenox, Pleasant Valley, and Turtle. So, come and share your school, church, and family history of the Jadwin community with photos, newspaper articles and printed histories. The event is co-sponsored by the Jadwin School Reunion Committee and the Dent County Historical Society. An accident occurred Tuesday afternoon at 4:45 in Reynolds County on Route J about two miles west of Oats. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 International CE300 school bus driven by 47-year old Terry Dumke of Viburnum was traveling eastbound on Route J. The school bus ran off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway, overturned and struck a tree, then coming to rest on it’s wheels on the right side of the roadway. A total of 32 people, all from Viburnum, were on the school bus. Most suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance, air ambulance or private vehicle for medical treatment. A total of 13 were taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital, five were taken to St. John’s Hospital is St. Louis, five were taken to Advanced Health Care in Ellington, three were taken to Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, one person went to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis, one person was sent to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, two people were taken to the Iron County Hospital in Pilot Knob, one person went to St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, and one person was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. Dumke suffered moderate injuries and was transported by air ambulance to St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis. 38-year old Melissa Dumke suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Advanced Health Care in Ellington. 49-year old Cheryl Mayfield suffered moderate injuries and 14-year old Chelsea Black suffered serious injury and both were transported by air ambulance to St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis. 15-year old Laura Callahan suffered moderate injuries and was transports by air ambulance to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis. 17-year old Angel Medlock suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Hospital in Rolla. The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation continues with the highway patrol conducting an accident reconstruction.
The Salem Rotary Club is accepting books or donations for all the Dent County School’s Parents as Teachers Programs through October 15th. Each member is to donate at least two books for children ages 3-5 and the club will match what is given up to 50 books. Books may be dropped off by the community at the Salem TCRC, and monetary donations can be made by contacting any Rotary Club member.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will face the Ava Lady Bears tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV game and the varsity match will follow. You can hear the varsity contest on KSMO at about 6:55.
Brad Boyes scored a pair of goals as St. Louis cruised past the Nashville Predators, 4-1, in the Blues' home opener at Scottrade Center. Ryan Johnson and Lee Stempniak added a goal each for the Blues, who picked up their second win in a row. Manny Legace played through knee pain and stopped 19 shots in a winning effort. Paul Kariya, meanwhile, faced his old team and ended with two assists. The club hosts Colorado on Friday. KSMO will join the game in progress after Salem Football.
St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced that defenseman Erik Johnson will be sidelined day-to-day with a foot fracture in his right foot. Dr. Rick Wright at Barnes Hospital evaluated him on Tuesday. The club has recalled defenseman Micki DuPont from the Blues’ American Hockey League affiliate in Peoria.

A Big 12 showdown will ensue in Norman this weekend, as the sixth- ranked Oklahoma Sooners play host to the 11th-ranked Missouri Tigers. Missouri has won its first five games this season, including last weekend's 41-6 romp over a strong Nebraska squad. The 35-point margin of victory over the Huskers was the greatest for Mizzou in this series since 1947. The Tigers also beat Illinois in week one, and the Illini are now ranked and undefeated in Big Ten play. This weekend's game, however, figures to be the toughest test yet. Oklahoma crushed the first four teams on its schedule, and after a shocking loss to Colorado to fall to 4-1, the Sooners got back on track with a 28-21 decision over arch-rival Texas last weekend.

Graveside services for Toni "Patricia" Hall of Tucson, Arizona, age 50, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Boss Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.
Funeral services for Raymond D. Fannon of Owensville, age 86, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in Owensville. Visitation will also be Saturday from 10:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church in Owensville.
