The Salem Police Department released more reports. On Friday, September 27th at 12:36 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Ron's Detail on Highway 32 West in reference to a stolen vehicle. The investigation revealed that someone stole a green 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier from the lot. The vehicle was located and recovered on October 1st at the South Side Shopping Plaza in Rolla. Two suspects, a 20-year old female of Rolla and a 47-year old male of Freeburg, were taken into custody in connection with the theft. On Sunday, September 29th at 1:02 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of South Highway 19 in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone entered a residence and took ten dollars cash and a laptop computer valued at $400. At 1:41 that same morning, an officer was dispatched to Casey's General Store on Highway 32 East in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 40-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise, valued at $95.48, and possession of heroin. She was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Later that evening at 6:39, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation revealed that someone entered a vehicle near the 200 block of West Hunt and took documents, a smart phone, and a wallet valued at $25,395. Later that same night at 10:08, a 35-year old Salem female was transported to the Ozark Medical Center in West Plains in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Monday, September 30th at 5:05 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Ranch Motel in reference to someone going through vehicles. The investigation revealed that a male wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans was getting into vehicles and a resident attempted to confront the suspect. The suspect fled the scene and it was found that items, valued at $380, had been removed from a vehicle. The items were later located near the scene where the suspect had fled. Later that day at 3:47, a vehicle was stopped for an investigation of an active arrest warrant. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Tuesday, October 1st at 9:50 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 200 block of South Warfel in reference damage to a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone cut the upholstery of a gray 1996 Chevrolet Lumina causing damages valued at $600. At 12:06 that afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took $447 in cash from a residence in the 300 block of North Walker. Later that night at 8:10, an officer was investigating suspected narcotics activity at a residence in the 900 block of South Oak. The investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, a 46-year old Salem female for possession of marijuana, and a 56-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. They were issued summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the person going through vehicles, damage to a vehicle, or theft reports, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

There is no better way to spend a wonderful autumn weekend than attending Old Iron Works Day’s. The two-day event will be held this weekend at the beautiful Maramec Spring Park, which is located six miles southeast of St. James. Crafts will be demonstrated continuously during the two-day event. Displays and other activities will be ongoing each day. This big event gets started at noon on Saturday. The Ozark Rounders Bluegrass Band will be performing from 1:00-2:00 and 4:00-5:00. The Ozark Spirit Cloggers will be on stage from 2:00-2:30 and 3:30-4:00. The Open Range Bluegrass Band will perform from 2:30-3:30. On Sunday, activities open at noon. The Ozark Rounders Bluegrass Band will be performing from 2:30-3:30. Kid’s Games will be from 1:00-3:00. There is something for everyone and plenty of good country food and beverages on hand. Peyton Curley smacked two doubles and drove in four runs, while Taylor Frizzell also drove in four runs to lead the Salem Tigers to a 10-3 win over St. James in the first round of district play Wednesday afternoon in Washington, MO. The Lady Tigers finished with 12 hits in the game. Cortney Putman pitched out of trouble much of the contest and left the game after the first two St. James Lady Tigers reached in the 7th inning. Kari Hatridge finished up the game for the Lady Tigers who are now 15-8 on the year. They will play the #1 seed Sullivan tonight at 6:30 at the Knights of Columbus Park in Washington. The 7th and 8th grade Salem Tiger Football game against Houston that was scheduled to be held tonight in Salem has been moved to Houtson as the Salem track is being resurfaced. Start time for the game remains at 5:30.

David Freese belted an early two-run homer and Adam Wainwright went the distance to send the St. Louis Cardinals back to the NLCS for the third straight year as they rolled to a 6-1 victory over Pittsburgh Pirates in a decisive Game 5 of the NLDS. Matt Adams added a two-run homer in the 8th inning to provide insurance. The Cardinals will have home-field advantage over the Dodgers in the NLCS, with Game 1 scheduled for Friday.

Alex Steen netted the game winner with 21.1 seconds remaining in regulation, helping the St. Louis Blues take a 3-2 decision over the Chicago Blackhawks. Vladimir Tarasenko and David Backes also tallied for the Blues, who will host the New York Rangers on Saturday.

Funeral services for Joann (Radford) Young of Bixby, age 71, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00.
