The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting in the road report, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 408 and 240, and the rest of District 1 workers would be cleaning out culverts on various roads throughout the district. In District 2, Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 214 and in the Hidden Valley Estates subdivision. Tune went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 254 and the rest of District 2 workers would be checking road signs and catching up on general maintenace. The Commission adjourned at 9:30 to attend a meeting with MRPC and city officials in the City Hall auditorium to discuss the draft Hazard Mitigation Plan proposed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Mayor Gary Brown opened the meeting, then turned things over to Presiding Commissioner Jim Biggs, who stated that the Commission had not developed a plan with Meramec Reginal Planning Commission that would be beneficial to Dent County. Richard Cavender, the Executive Director of MRPC, explained that a Hazard Mitigation Plan is being encouraged by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for all counties and cities in the Missouri. Cavender said that planning and zoning is not required by the Hazard Mitigation Plan, but if a person builds a structure in a flood plain, then certain regulations have to be met if the plan is accepted, or a natural disaster or hazard occurs and grant money is accepted. Brown said the City of Salem already has planning and zoning, but the county does not, therefore citizens outside the city limits would have to vote to adopt planning and zoning requirements for the county. Commissioner Tune said the Dent County Commission is not in favor of any planning or zoning. A number of citizens asked questions after Commissioner Simpson pointed out that building codes can be implemented if you accept FEMA money after a hazard with or without a county plan. No further discussion on the draft plan occurred after the public became involved as questions and comments were being directed at the city and county officials as well as the MRPC officials. Commissioner Biggs motioned to adjourn and the motion was seconded by Mayor Gary Brown. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

A total of 33 lunkers and 58-tagged fish were caught during the Rose Holland Trout Derby held this past weekend to help raise $10,708.25 for the American Heart Association. A total of 1,934 registered for the derby. Of the money raised, $1,771 came from cash donations, $3,502 came from registrations, and another $3,347 came from the store, auction and bake sale. Memorials accounted for another $200 and another $2,088 was raised from the sale of hanging-hearts, facepainting, the car show as well as the sale of T-shirts. The Winner of the men's trout competition was Brian Stam of Farmington with a trout weighing in at eleven pounds and fourteen ounces, while Eric Horton of Park Hills took second with a trout weighing in at nine pounds and fourteen ounces. In the women's trout competition, coming in first place was Amy Luna of St. James with a trout weighing in at four pounds two ounces, and in second place were Gabrielle Hollman of St. Clair and Barbra King of Oak Ridge, both with a trout weighing in at four pounds. The winner of the brown trout competition was Doyle Hood of Licking with a catch of five pounds and thirteen ounces. The winner of the kid's stringer contest was Dustin Blackburn of Houston with a stringer weighing in at five pounds thirteen ounces. Taking second place in the contest was Terry Pelczyski, Jr from Ashley, Illinois with four pounds and four ounces. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has released figures for 2007 CART (County Aid Road Trust) revenues for counties to use in their budgetary preparations. For 2007, the counties share of the gas tax is projected to be approximately $82.774 million. MoDOT also projects the counties intake from the 2007 motor vehicle sales/use tax will be $15.8 million. Finally, they project vehicle fees for the new state fiscal year will net counties an estimated $14.7 million. Based on these figures, the breakdowns of CART dollars for the counties in this area are: $640,055 for Dent County, $778,011 for Crawford County, $383,342 for Iron County, $772,166 for Phelps County, $636,509 for Reynolds County, $644,880 for Shannon County and $959,114 for Texas County.

Chris Kunitz scored twice on the power play and Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 34 shots for his 22nd career shutout in Anaheim's 2-0 victory over the winless St. Louis Blues. Curtis Sanford made 32 saves for the Blues, who have lost a club-record 12 consecutive road games. This was the finale of a three-game road trip for the Blues, who opened the season with defeats at San Jose and at Los Angeles. The Blues couldn't catch a break, even on five power play chances. They are now 1-for-16 with the extra man this season. The Blues will be home to face the Boston Bruins Thursday night at 7:00.

Darrent Williams came up with a big interception late in the contest to lead a stifling defensive effort, as Denver downed the previously-unbeaten Baltimore Ravens, 13-3, in an AFC showdown at Invesco Field. Jake Plummer secured the win with a late touchdown toss to Rod Smith and ended 13-of-24 for 106 yards with an interception for the Broncos (3-1), who have won 12 straight games at home.

The American League Championship Series starts tonight with the Detroit Tigers facing the Athletics in Oakland. Detroit is coming off a shocking four-game series win over the New York Yankees, while the A's swept their way past Minnesota in the Division Series. Nate Robertson gets the ball for the Tigers in Game 1, while Barry Zito starts on the mound for the A's.

The National League Championship Series begins Wednesday night in New York with the Mets taking on the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets blasted their way to a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Division Series, while the Cardinals were pushed to four games by San Diego before advancing. St. Louis is in the NLCS for a third straight year and fourth time in the last six years, but only advanced to the World Series once. The Cardinals have been in the playoffs in five of the last six years. These two teams met in the NLCS in 2000 with the Mets winning in five games. Game time will be at 7:05 and the Dugout Show can be heard at 6:55 on KSMO.
