The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released reports. On Wednesday, October 1st, the Sheriff's Office took a report of a stolen license plate. The theft took place in the 3000 block of County Road 4050. The license plate had been removed between September 26th and September 29th. On Thursday, October 2nd, Deputies responded to the 4000 block of Highway K for a report of stealing.  Upon their arrival, Deputies met with the victim who stated that a Stihl MS310 chainsaw was missing out of their storage shed.  The saw was valued at $400. No suspect information was given and the investigation is ongoing. On Sunday, October 5th, the Sheriff's Office received a call from a 17-year old male who reported that someone had run into the garage door at his mother’s house on County Road 3320 and then fled the area. The garage door appeared to have been struck by a vehicle, which knocked the door completely down. The property damage is estimated at $2,000. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen license plate, Stihl chainsaw or the property damage report, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241. 

The Blue Oval Rally, formerly known as the Current River Cobra Rally, will be in Salem this Saturday from 9:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the afternoon for a “Show and Shine” style car show around the Dent County Courthouse square. Participants can bring their special interest vehicle to the square, hang out and have fun. There is no judging and only three trophies are given: the Police Chiefs Choice, the Mayor’s Choice and the Marching Blue Band’s choice. The show area will break up around noon for a lunch break and then participants can regroup at the Crossroads Shopping Center parking lot to begin the cruise to Current River. There will be scenic stops at Akers Ferry, Round Spring Park and at Alley Spring. The cost to participate is $25 per car and that includes the show and cruise. Money raised from this event will be donated to the Salem Tiger Marching Blue Band Parent Association. For more info, contact Randy at 816-719-5157. A representative from the Central Missouri Agency on Aging will be available to assist during the Med D open enrollment period.  The Salem Community Center @ the Armory Computer Lab will be used to help participants review their current plan and shop for the Part D plan that best meets your personal needs and financial situation. Appointments are available on: Thursday, October 23rd, Friday, October 24th then again on Thursday, November 6th and Friday, November 7th and the final one will be held on Thursday, November 13th. The 2014 Trees and Trains Exhibit will again be at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South Main Street in Salem and will run from November 24th through December 24th this year. If you or your group, club or business would like to exhibit a Christmas tree or have a Christmas display at the exhibit this year, please contact Laura at 729-9697 to reserve your space. Continuing the 50th Anniversary celebration, Ozark National Scenic Riverways will bring the Ozark past to life during the Haunting in the Hills event to be held Saturday, October 11th, 2014 at Alley Spring.  The FREE event features folkway demonstrations, re-enactments, hands-on activities, food vendors, and traditional dancing, bluegrass and folk music. Local skilled crafts people will demonstrate from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Experience Ozark pioneer folkways and traditions such as basket weaving, bobbin lace making, spinning, woodcarving, blacksmithing, chair caning and the making of household supplies of soap, candles, rope, brooms, and apple butter.  Learn about Ozark history through the Fur Trapping Rendezvous,exhibited by the Ozark Long Rifle Association. Then when night falls, a very different setting emerges during the Tales from Ozark’s Dark Side on Saturday evening, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  Illuminated pathways will guide your way through Ozark legends, folktales, mysteries, superstitions, and natural wonders for spellbinding age-old storytelling. Visitors are encouraged to bring along flashlights.  Tales and legends include Ozark Tales and Superstitions, the search for the Ozark Karkaghne Monster, the struggles of the Civil War: one woman’s true story, and shallow graves and lives remembered in Stone:  A Graveyard Tour. Superintendent Bill Black announced the Ozark National Scenic Riverways would extend the operating season for the park’s developed campgrounds beyond October 15. There will be restrooms with running water available in each developed campground, as well as sites with electric hookups in several campgrounds. Campsites will be available on a first come, first served basis. At Alley Spring Campground, non-electric sites will be provided in the 100 Loop, with electric sites available in the 600 Loop. At Pulltite Campground, non-electric campsites 2-14 will be open.  For more information, visit www.nps.gov/ozar or call (573) 323-4236.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will play Sullivan at 4:30 today at Sullivan in the District semi-final. The Lady Eagles beat St. Clair in six innings, 11-1. Union, who is the first seed, will take on St. James who defeated Owensville, 12-3 at 4:30 as well. You can hear the Salem game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com. The admission fee is $4.00 per person for those age 6 and over.  

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be in Willow Springs tonight to face the Lady Bears. Salem is still looking for it’s first win of the year. JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow.

The St. Louis Blues will open up their much-anticipated season tonight at the Scottrade Center. The Blues will be hosting the New York Rangers and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:30.

Funeral services for Glen “Fudd” Eaton of Steelville, age 77, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

A memorial service mass for Carolyn Ann (Deeken) Cahill will be at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the Riverways Pregnancy Center.
