Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles will have Roma Jones from the Dent County Health Center as a guest on the air on KSMO Radio this morning at about 8:35 to address various flu issues and the phone line will then be opened up for questions. The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning at the Dent County courthouse for their regular meeting. In the road report, both commissioners reported that due to rain expected for the rest of the week, no grading would be done. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that crews would be servicing equipment and work would be done on trucks 57,66,67 and 69. Purcell did report that culvert work would be done on Dent County Roads 4240 and 4243. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 3030 and 5260 and crews would be checking for downed roads signs. Larson also reported that maintenance would be done on trucks 68 and 70. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that office holders at the Dent County courthouse attended a meeting on Wednesday conducted by Janie Jadwin addressing flu situations and how to better protect themselves. Skiles reported that he would be attending several meetings including a Transportation Advisory Committee meeting Thursday evening in St. James at the MRPC. Dent County Angie Curley reported that she and Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams balanced on all accounts for September. At the previous meeting, Joe Weber with GC & M and Sheriff Rick Stallings presented the commission a feasibility study services proposal for the Dent County jail for $5,500 and after a discussion was held, all three commissioners agreed to sign the proposal. The Dent County courthouse would be closed on Monday, October 12th in observance of Columbus Day. The next regular meeting of the Dent County Commissioner will be Thursday, October 15th at the courthouse, and the meeting is open to the public.
Congratulations to the SHS FFA Grassland Management Team on their 2nd place finish at District Competition Thursday in Rolla. Phillip Moser was High Individual and Lane Howard was Second High Individual. Other team members were Ashley Greenshields and Wesley Tatom. The team will compete at State in Central Missouri on Thursday October 15th.
An accident occurred 12:50 Thursday afternoon I Phelps County on Highway 68 just southeast of Highway 8. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Oldsmobile driven by 37 year-old Rebecca Light of Salem lost control while negotiating a curve, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned, and came to rest on it’s wheels. Light suffered moderate injuries and was transported by St. James ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Oldsmobile sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Spurgeon’s Towing.
An accident occurred at 7:55 Thursday morning in Dent County on Route B about thirteen miles north of Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 47 year-old Julie Rippinger of Salem ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and went off the left side of the roadway. The Cavalier then struck and embankment and some trees. Rippinger suffered minor injuries and was transported to Salem Memorial Hospital by Salem ambulance. The Chevrolet Cavalier sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

The Salem Football Tigers will host Houston tonight in the Homecoming game starting at 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 3-3 record and 2-3 in the SCA. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Bill Schuchardt.
The Salem Lady Softball semi-final district game with Logan-Rogersville was postponed yesterday due to rain. It has been rescheduled for today at 6:00.
Matt Holliday's two-base error with two outs in the ninth completely flipped an Adam Wainwright gem into a huge National League Division Series hole, as Los Angeles rallied for two runs after the error to down St. Louis, 3-2, in Game 2 at Dodger Stadium. Mark Loretta, 0-for-15 lifetime versus Ryan Franklin (0-1), looped a pinch-hit, game-winning single into no-man's land in left-center field, scoring Casey Blake with the winning run. The Dodgers had nobody on base before Holliday's miscue. St. Louis got a vintage performance from one of its two stoppers, as Wainwright didn't give up a hit until Andre Ethier's homer in the fourth and dominated through the eighth. He left with a 2-1 edge because of Holliday's second-inning solo homer and Colby Rasmus' RBI double in the seventh. The Cardinals will face the Dodgers in Game 3 on Saturday starting at 4:45 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored a pair of goals as Atlanta spoiled the home-opener for St. Louis, 4-2, at Scottrade Center. Keith Tkachuk had a goal and one assist for the Blues. Roman Polak also scored but Chris Mason allowed three goals on 21 shots in the setback. The Blues honored former defenseman and Hall of Famer Al MacInnis with a statue outside the arena. The Blues face the LA Kings Saturday at 7:00 and KSMO will join the game in progress after Cardinal Baseball.

Graveside services for James Conrad Morton of Salem, age 66, will be held today at 1:00 at the Forever Oak Hill Cemetery in St. Louis. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.
Funeral services for Betty Lou Stricklin of Cherryville, age 69, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Home Cemetery in Steelville. Memorials may be given to the Gibbs Care Center.
Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Cooley of Rolla, age 77, will be held Monday at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 with a Masonic service at 5:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society for Cancer Research.
Funeral services for Olive May Dooley of Salem, age 81, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Phelps County Hospice.
