The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will be holding their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the city hall council chambers. At the meeting, the board will hear from the Grace Community Church about blocking the 600 block of Water Street on October 15th from 3:00 to 8:00 for the purpose of holding a church fellowship. They will also hear from the Salem Chamber of Commerce about the closing of 4th Street between Highway 19 and Washington Street on November 10th from 5:00 to 8:00 for Holiday Open Houses. Richard Swank will also address the board about cars not stopping at Center and Park Streets before Don Shipley, Camm Seay and Gary Larson discuss the water bill at The Commons as well as the brush cutting at the old festival grounds. The board will then hear bids about installing a digital sign for the Salem Freedom Activity Center as well as repair to the sign, bids for the purchasing of 6 to 8 foot new tables for the city hall, and hear bids for the Al Brown lift station, pump and accessories. In the hearing of reports of city officials, Alderman Bill Riley wants to discuss the skateboard park, a fence at the city park and miscellaneous items. Alderman Jim McDaniels then wants to receive an update on the emergency generator at the city hall, get an update on the progress at the city park on the grant work, discuss extending the city limits and miscellaneous items. Aldermen Jim Jackson and Mike Whitley will then discuss miscellaneous items. In new business, the board will discuss renaming Alberta Drive, approve the trick or treating hours for Halloween and approve bills. The board may then go into closed session to discuss personnel, real estate and litigation. The meeting tonight of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

The Missouri Department of Transportation anounces that road work will continue in the area this week. In Crawford County on Interstate 44, contractor crews are installing guard cables in the median, and new crossovers in the median of Exit 179 to Exit 195, and from Exit 201 eastbound and westbound on Interstate Route 44 from Sullivan to Lebanon in Crawford, Phelps, Pulaski and Laclede Counties. There will be daily lane closures along I-44 eastbound and westbound. Crews will also be upgrading the guardrails to the new standards along the median. Also micro surfacing is being done various interchanges on Interstate Route 44 from mile Exits 203 to 218 in Crawford County. Ramps will remain open but will be reduced to 10' lane width. Also in Crawford County, MoDOT maintenance crews will be doing pipe replacement on Highway 49, blade patching on Route P, and they will be edge rutting on Routes P, DD, H and Highway 19 in Crawford County. In Dent County, MoDOT maintenance crews will be patching potholes Highway 72 toward Bunker as well as working on the third lane of the new Highway 72 from Highway 32 to just past Route J. Signs will be set and flaggers will be assisting traffic where needed.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their October Membership Meeting on Wednesday at the Salem TCRC beginning at noon. There will be a program presentation about credit and credit scores given by Denny Pogue of the Bank of Salem. Lunch will be from the Blackberry Patch and the cost is $7.00. Tony Temple rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns, as 23rd-ranked Missouri moved to its best start since 1973 with a a 38-21 victory over Texas Tech. Chase Daniel completed 15-of-22 passes for 173 yards with a touchdown and interception for the Tigers (6-0, 2-0 Big 12), who also got 90 yards receiving from Will Franklin. Xzavie Jackson and William Moore returned interceptions for touchdowns for Missouri, which has won seven in a row, going back to last season, for the first time since 1968. Missouri will be at Texas A&M on Saturday.

Alexander Frolov tallied a goal and an assist as the Los Angeles Kings beat St. Louis, 4-1, for their first win of the season. Lubomir Visnovsky, Michael Cammalleri and Brent Sopel each scored for the Kings, who lost to Anaheim 4-3 in their season opener. Martin Rucinsky scored the lone goal for the Blues, who have lost 11 straight road games dating back to last season. Manny Legace yielded all four LA goals on 30 shots. The Blues will be in Anaheim tonight to face the Mighty Ducks starting at 9:00 on KSMO.

Billy Jackson ran for 201 yards and five different Tigers scored touchdowns as Salem beat the Willow Springs Bears Friday night, 36-8. Salem received touchdowns from Jackson, Yousef Ibrahim, Matt Whitaker, Jordan Thompson and Alex Heitman. Salem amassed 398 yards in rushing and did not have a yard throwing the ball. Salem is now 5-1 and they will host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles Friday night at the Salem High School Football Field.

Chris Carpenter pitched solid ball into the eighth inning, Ronnie Belliard had a two-run single in the first inning and Juan Encarnacion tripled in the go-ahead run during a big sixth-inning rally, as the Cardinals advanced to the National League Championship Series for a third consecutive year with a 6-2 victory over the San Diego Padres. Carpenter (2-0) allowing seven hits and two runs over seven-plus frames. St. Louis won the best-of-five Division Series in four games, rebounding from a 3-1 defeat on Saturday. Now, the Cardinals are off to Shea Stadium to face the New York Mets, starting Wednesday.

Marc Bulger threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns, and Jeff Wilkins kicked three field goals as the surprising St. Louis Rams held off Green Bay, 23-20, at Lambeau Field. Bulger completed 18-of-28 passes for the Rams (4-1), who have won three straight. Steven Jackson ran for 98 yards on 23 carries while Torry Holt had three receptions for 40 yards and a TD.

Lawrence Tynes' 19-yard field goal with 1:36 left in the fourth quarter gave Kansas City its first lead of the game and the win, as the Chiefs came back to defeat the Arizona Cardinals, 23-20. Damon Huard threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns on 26-of-38 passing and Johnson hauled in six passes for 106 yards and a score for the Chiefs (2-2), who have won two straight.
