The Dent County Fire Protection District released their report involving a fire at Royal Oak. A call came in on Thursday, October 4th at 8:55 pm for a fire located on JJ Highway off of Highway 19 North. Firefighters responded to the call and arrived on the scene at 9:03 pm. The Royal Oak warehouse building is approximately 1000-foot long and 200-foot wide and has a firewall in the middle. The fire was under control on Friday, October 6th at about 7:00 am. Half the building was a total loss and the fire is under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office. The Montauk Fire Department, Lennox Fire Department, Jadwin Fire Department, Rolla City and Rolla Rural Fire Departments, St. James Fire Department, Steelville Fire Department, Dolittle Fire Department and the Pulaski County Fire Department were called and provided mutual Aid. Also standing by and assisting were the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Salem Police Department, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department and the Salem Memorial District Hospital. All units were back in action the Dent County Fire Protection District returned to the station at 7:45 Friday morning. No injuries were reported.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department along with the Salem Police Department participated in a “TAKE BACK” program on Saturday, September 29th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. The Dent County Sheriff’s department took back an estimated 50 pounds and the Salem Police Department took back an estimated 62 pounds of expired prescriptions as well as over the counter drugs.

An accident occurred on Friday at 12:03 in the afternoon in Reynolds County on Highway 72 five miles West of Centerville. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1995 International 4700 Truck driven by 29 year-old Steven J. Foster of Bunker ran off the roadway, struck and embankment and overturned. According to the report Foster was not wearing a seat restraint and suffered fatal injuries. His body was taken to the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellington. The International was totaled and was towed by Mike and Ikes Towing.

A former temporary employee at the Ozark National Scenic Riverways was sentenced to federal prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for video voyeurism. Randon Wayne Crane, 32-years old of Summersville, was sentenced to three months imprisonment. Upon completion of the term of imprisonment, Crane will be place on federal supervised release for one year. Since the victim of the crime was a minor, Crane is required to register a sex offender for 15 years. During his plea, Crane admitted that on Friday, June 30, 2012, he photographed a 16-year old female using a shower facility located in a campground. While taking a shower in one of the shower rooms, the minor female noticed a light from a cellular phone coming from an opening located just above the floor and beneath the showerhead. Crane admitted he was the person controlling the phone and that he photographed the minor female prior to her reaching down for the phone. The Investigative Services Branch of the National Park Service investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Abbie Crites-Leoni handled the prosecution for the Government.

The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Monday, September 17th at 10:03 in the evening, an officer transported a 26-year old Salem male to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Tuesday, September 18th at 6:18 in the morning, an officer was contacted in reference to a fight that had occurred in the 700 block of South Jackson. The investigation led to the arrest of a 36-year old female and a 23-year old female, both of Salem, for disorderly conduct. They were issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Wednesday, September 19th at 12:40 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of South Macarthur in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took a folding chair valued at $20 from a storage room. Later that morning at 8:35, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of North Macarthur in reference to property damage to a vehicle. The investigation revealed that someone broke the back glass, valued at $75, out of a maroon 2000 Ford van parked near the residence. On Thursday, September 20th at 3:44 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of West Roosevelt in reference to a home invasion. That investigation revealed that a 25-year old Salem male entered a residence and went into a bedroom before running out of the residence. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant for second degree trespassing after being located at the corner of Louise and Mary. Later that morning at 8:04, an officer was contacted in reference to a stolen cell phone. The investigation revealed that someone took an iPhone valued at $400 from a locker at the Salem High School. Brady Floyd scored on a 76-yard run on the second play from scrimmage for Salem, but it was all Mountain Grove after that as they scored 48 unanswered points to beat the Tigers, 48-7. Salem is now 5-2 on the year and 3-2 in the SCA. The Tigers will host the Mountain View/Liberty Eagles Friday night at 7:00.

The Salem Lady Tiger volleyball team will be hosting Plato tonight at the SHS gym for Netcoming. JV will start things off at 6:00 with the varsity to follow.

Pinch-hitter Tyler Moore delivered a two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth inning as the Washington Nationals opened up their National League Division Series against the defending world champion St. Louis Cardinals with a 3-2 come-from-behind win Sunday at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright struck out 10 batters over 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball for St. Louis, but was let down by his team's bats as well as its defense. Mitchell Boggs was charged with the two eighth-inning runs, both of which were unearned due to a fielding error by rookie shortstop Pete Kozma. The Cardinals also went hitless in eight at-bats with men in scoring position and stranded a total of 10 runners for the game. St. Louis and Washington play Game Two of the NLDS today at 3:02 on KSMO.

It wasn't pretty, but thanks to three field goals from Justin Tucker the Baltimore Ravens took a 9-6 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Matt Cassel had a tough day, getting picked off twice and losing a fumble before leaving the game in the fourth quarter with a head injury for the Chiefs, who have dropped their past two. The Chiefs play the Buccaneers on Sunday.

One week before the regular season was slated to begin, the NHL announced the cancellation of the schedule through October 24th. A total of 82 games, beginning on October 11, have been wiped out due to the ongoing labor strife.
