The Dent County Sheriff’s Department contacted Dent County Coroner Eddie Wilson after the body 18-year Sean Aaron Martin of Salem was found at his parent’s residence on Thursday, October 2^nd. Martin was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:58 Thursday evening. No autopsy was performed. After an investigation at the scene by the Dent County Coroner’s Office, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol it was determined that Sean Aaron Martin died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The body of Sean Aaron Martin was then released to the Dent County Memorial Chapel where services were held yesterday.

At the Salem High School Football Field Friday night, Bethany Kellermann was crowned the 2008 Football Homecoming Queen. Her court consisted of seniors Hannah Kettner and Kendra Quick, sophomore Samantha Riley and junior Jessica Dean.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight beginning at 7:00 after the public hearing and meeting of the Planning & Zoning Commission. During the hearing of persons, Linda Mielke would like to address the issues Mrs. Walker has with our town and would also like to know who exactly governs whose house or yard need work, and Grace Community Church would like to request permission to block city street at 600 South Water for the purpose of a church fellowship and community event on October 31^st from 4:00 to 9:00 pm. After approval of the consent agenda, in unfinished business, City Attorney Nanci Wisdom will report on the public hearing and meeting held prior to the meeting regarding the annexation of a part of “J” Highway by the Salem R-80 Board of Education, also the annexation of property owned by John & Johanna Wegmann on Rolla Road and the request to allow used car sales at the 4^th Street Mall. Alderman Bill Riley wishes to discuss the paving of streets and miscellaneous items along with Alderman Jim Jackson and Kenneth Nash.  Jim McDaniels wishes to discuss parking on Roosevelt Street, the sign at the Crossroads Shopping Center, an update on storm damage, the consideration of stocking the City Hall with emergency supplies and equipment and discuss a truck. He will also address other miscellaneous items. Mayor Gary Brown will then give his comments on issues involving the City of Salem. During the Introduction and Reading of Bills, Bill #3141 has to be approved in order for the Mayor to sign the lease for the Highway 19 roadside park. City Clerk Mary Happel is requesting approval to issue a Wholesale Solicitor License to Counts Hollow Vineyard, LLC located at 500 North Main. Mayor Brown and Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs are requesting the Board to change the next meeting to Tuesday, October 21^st due to the Missouri Community Betterment’s Annual Conference and Awards Ceremony on October 19^th and 20^th. After approval of the bills presented by City Clerk Mark Happel, the Board may the go into closed session. The hearing and meeting are open to the public.

An accident happened at 10:50 Saturday morning in Dent County on private property at the intersection of Highway 19 and Route N about nine miles south of Salem that involved five teenagers. According to the highway patrol report, a 1985 Honda Fortrax 250 driven by 14-year old Paige Arnett of Salem, struck a 1986 Honda Fortrax driven by 13-year old Lydia Curley of Salem, head-on while rounding a curve. Suffering moderate injuries was Lydia Curley who was taken by private conveyance to the Salem Hospital, then flown to Children Hospital in St. Louis. Suffering minor injuries were Arnett and a passenger in the Fortrax 250, 13-year old Samantha White of Salem, as well as 13-year old Katelyn Connell and Ashley Larue, both of Salem, who were passengers in the Fortrax 350. They were all taken to the Salem Hospital by a private conveyance. The two Honda Fortrax vehicles had moderate damages and were left at the scene. The drivers and passengers are exempt from wearing safety devices.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon for October will be held on Wednesday, October 8th at Salem TCRC. Your reservation for lunch will need to be made no later than 3:00 today. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform pavement repairs on Highway 72 today through Thursday, October 9^th. Work will take place between the intersections of Highways 21 and 32 in Reynolds and Dent Counties. Crews and equipment will be located directly on the roadway. Yousef Ibrahim scored in the first quarter on a two-yard run, and Kevin Presley scored on a 16-yard pass and kicked two extra points as the Salem Tigers held off the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles Friday night, 14-12. Salem improved to 5-1 with the win and will face Houston on Friday night in the final SCA game of the year.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at Mountain View today starting at 4:30.

Heisman Trophy candidate Chase Daniel threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns on 18-of-23 passing to lead the fourth- ranked Missouri Tigers in a 52-17 rout of the Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday night Derrick Washington gained 139 yards and two TDs on 14 carries and added another touchdown via the air for Missouri (5-0, 1-0 Big 12), which won in Lincoln for the first time since 1978. Jeremy Maclin caught five passes for 89 yards and scored once. Danario Alexander also scored for the Tigers. Kicker Jeff Wolfert is now tied with Brad Smith as Mizzou's all time scorer.

Paul Kariya had a goal and two assists as the St. Louis Blues downed the Atlanta Thrashers, 4-1, in the final preseason game for both clubs. Lee Stempniak had three assists while Andy McDonald finished the game with a goal and an assist for the Blues, who open up the 2008-09 campaign with a home game against Nashville on Friday. Manny Legace and Chris Mason combined to stop 23-of-24 shots.

DeAngelo Williams ran for two touchdowns and caught a scoring pass in Carolina's 34-0 drubbing of the listless Kansas City Chiefs. Damon Huard struggled mightily for Kansas City (1-4), connected on 10-of-21 throws for 86 yards and two interceptions before he was replaced by Tyler Thigpen early in the fourth quarter.

The St. Louis Cardinals re-signed pitching coach Dave Duncan on Friday to a one-year deal with an option for the 2010 season. Duncan, the team's pitching coach since 1996, has served in that role under Tony La Russa for the White Sox, Athletics and Cardinals since 1983. Duncan, 62, just completed his 29th season as a pitching coach, the most years spent at the position by one man in major-league history.

The “S-CLUB” sponsored Macho-Mania Boys Volleyball game will be held Thursday, October 9^th in the High School gym. The first game will start at 7:00 PM as the sophomores, coached by Kristy Bermudez and Alayna Sellers, will take on the juniors, coached by Rachel Sirois and Jenna Cartwright. The winner will then play the seniors, coached by Hannah Kettner and Jessica Brand, for this year’s “braggin’ rights.” Come on out and support the Tigers. The admission for the event is $1.00 for everyone.
