An accident occurred at 6:00 Saturday evening in Dent County on Highway 32 about a mile west of Boss that took the life of a Boss woman. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Ford F-250 driven westbound by 47-year old Kimberly Rimes of Boss, traveled off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, then traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Kimberly Rimes and an occupant, 17-year old Dustin Rimes, were both ejected from the vehicle. Kimberly Rimes was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:11 by Dent County Coroner Gina White and her body was taken to the Wilson Mortuary. Dustin Rimes suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. No one involved in the accident was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford F-250 was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

An accident occurred at 9:05 Saturday night in Dent County on Highway 72 at Lake Spring. According to the highway patrol report, a 1986 Ford pickup driven eastbound by 38-year old Thomas Paine of Salem, crossed the centerline and struck a 1996 Jeep driven westbound by 40-year old Michael Brush of Rolla. The Ford then traveled off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Paine suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital and was then airlifted to the St. Johns Hospital. Michael Brush suffered minor injuries and sought his own treatment. Three occupants in the Jeep: 3-year old Kali Brush, 33-year old Pamela Brush, and 15-year old Trenton Moore all of Rolla, suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Another occupant in the Jeep, 6-year Aiden Brush of Rolla, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Paine was the only one not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and were removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing. Thomas Paine was later charged with four counts of 2nd degree assault and careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident.

An accident occurred at 6:16 Tuesday evening in Salem at the intersection of Highway 32 and Elmer Street. According to Salem Police Chief Steelman and the Salem Police report, a 2007 Dodge Caravan driven by Simone Stuart of Salem was at a stop sign at the west entrance of the Wal-Mart parking lot. The Dodge exited the west driveway of Wal-Mart and was crossing Highway 32 to Elmer Street and made contact with a 2008 Bash motorcycle driven by Charles Gibbs of Salem that was traveling westbound on highway 32. Gibbs suffered serious injuries and was flown to St. Johns Hospital and remains in critical condition. The Dodge Caravan sustained moderate damage and the motorcycle was totaled.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 59-year old William Zaritz of Phelps County was indicted on federal charges involving his alleged distribution of over 50 grams of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in August of 2011. William “Mick” Zaritz was indicted by a federal grand jury on one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of ammunition and one felony count of distribution in excess of 50 grams of methamphetamine. If convicted, the weapons charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines of up to $250,000. The drug charge carries a penalty range from five to 40 years in prison. Zaritz’s case was investigated by the South Central Drug Task Force and the Rolla Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Bert is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Ben Adams had three interceptions as the Salem Tigers shutout the Ava Bears Friday, 12-0. Junior Rictor and Sammy Ibrahim each had a rushing touchdown as the Tigers move to 3-3 on the year. Salem will play in Cabool Friday.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host the Mountain View/Liberty Lady Eagles this afternoon in the final regular season game at the Salem City Park Field at 4:30. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio, online at ksmoradio.com, and it will be seen on a delayed basis on Fidelity Local 6 cable channel. 

Allen Craig tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, and the Cardinals used a strong bullpen effort to secure a 5-4 victory and even their National League Division Series at a game apiece. St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter, pitching on three days' rest for the first time in his career, lasted only three innings and allowed four runs. But six relief pitchers combined to hold Philadelphia to one hit the rest of the way. Rafael Furcal, Albert Pujols, and Ryan Theriot each had two hits and a RBI. Game 3 is set for Tuesday at 4:07 and you can hear it on KSMO.

Ryan Succop connected on a career-high five field goals, leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a 22-17 win over the Minnesota Vikings at Arrowhead Stadium. Succop nailed a career-long 54-yard try among his five kicks and Matt Cassel threw for 260 yards and one touchdown for the Chiefs (1-3), who avoided an 0-4 start. Dwayne Bowe hauled in five passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, while Steve Breaston caught four balls for 91 yards in the victory. Chief’s linebacker Tamba Hali finished with six solo tackles and two sacks. The Chiefs will face Indianapolis next Sunday.

Ryan Torain ran for 135 yards and a touchdown, as the Redskins survived a late charge to defeat the Rams, 17-10. Sam Bradford threw for 164 yards and a touchdown on 20-of-43 passing for the Rams (0-4), while Steven Jackson gained 45 yards on 17 carries. The Rams have next Sunday off.

Andrew Raycroft stopped all 33 shots he faced to help the Stars top the Blues, 4-0, in the preseason finale for both clubs. Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves for St. Louis, which opens its regular season schedule on Saturday at home against the Predators.

Funeral service for Clyde H. Allmon of Salem, age 99, will be held this afternoon at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral services for Lori Marie Gary of St. James, age 31, will be held today at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery near Lenox. Memorials are suggested to Relay for Life.

Funeral services for Alma Thoele of Salem, age 81, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
