The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6230, 6660 and 6670 and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 5090 and 5510.  Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6470. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2570, 3270, 3303 and 4330. Tune also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 4060 and a driveway pipe would be installed on Dent County Road 2500. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the last day to register to vote for the November General Election is October 8th and anyone who needs to absentee vote can do so anytime Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Also at the meeting, Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles and Commissioner’s Simpson and Tune adopted a resolution to participate in the Micro-Loan Agreement through the Meramec Regional Development Corporation. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a domestic assault and drugs. On Wednesday, October 1st at 9:08 in the evening, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a female standing in the middle of the road east of the Route W and EE junction. Upon arrival by the department, a residence was located and information was obtained that the call related to a domestic assault. As a result, a 34-year old male was taken into custody for domestic assault. Further investigation led to a search of the residence and taken into evidence were numerous syringes and a glass-smoking device, which contained residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. As a result of the search, the 34-year old male and a 31-year old female were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with Intent to use. Warrants are pending for the incident.

An accident happened at 7:55 Wednesday evening in Dent County at the Shawnee Mac Lakes Conservation Area about two miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1994 GMC Jimmy driven by 18-year old Jesse Warren of Salem was westbound around a sharp curve. The GMC began to slide, went off the right side of the road and overturned coming to rest on it’s side. 17-year old Jonathon Kiefert of Salem suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The GMC sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. Warren was cited for careless and imprudent driving.

The 45th Annual Rose Holland Trout Derby titled, “Reelin in a Cure”, will be held at Montauk State Park October 4th and 5th. Derby registration will begin tonight at 5:00 with an entry fee of $2. There will also be a Cruise In Car Show from 4:00 to 9:00 in the parking lot across from the Lodge. Fishing will begin on Saturday October 4th from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm. There will be guided tours from 10:00 to 1:30, health screenings from 9:00 until noon, live musical entertainment from noon until 4:30 featuring Over The Hillbillies, The Country Paradise Band and The Misfits Band, an auction at 5:30 and a night hike beginning at 7:30. There will also be face painting, kids activities, the Country Store will be open and there will also be a bake sale. On Sunday, October 5th, Derby fishing will continue until 11:30 that morning and the Awards will begin at noon. Awards will be given for the men’s ad women’s heaviest fish for 1st and 2nd place, kids heaviest stringer for 1st and 2nd place, the tagged fish caught and registered and the heaviest brown trout. The Salem Football Tigers host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles in SCA play tonight starting at 7:00. Salem and Mountain View both have 4-1 record. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at www.ksmoradio.com starting at 6:25 with Tiger Talk and Coach Bill Schuchardt. Tonight is Homecoming and a new queen will be crowned prior to the game. The sophomore class attendant is Samantha Riley, junior class attendant is Jessica Dean and senior queen candidates are Beth Kellerman, Hannah Kettner and Kendra Quick. This years escorts are Julian Mason, Yoram Snaterson, Cass Keene, Landie Oliver and Jonathon Cook. 

The Salem Lady Softball Varsity Tigers lost to Union yesterday by the score of 14-0 in five innings. Salem falls to 7-12 on the year. The JV also lost, 19-10, against the Lady Wildcats.  The JV is 4-4 on the year. A makeup game with West Plains was scheduled for today at 4:30 at West Plains.

The Missouri Tigers will travel to Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers tomorrow night starting at 7:00 on KSMO. Missouri is 4-0 going into the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be on the road facing Carolina on Sunday. Carolina is 3-1 and the Chiefs are 1-3. The Rams have a bye week this week.

The “S-CLUB” sponsored Macho-Mania Boys Volleyball game will be held Thursday, October 9th in the High School gym. The first game will start at 7:00 PM as the sophomores, coached by Kristy Bermudez and Alayna Sellers, will take on the juniors, coached by Rachel Sirois and Jenna Cartwright. The winner will then play the seniors, coached by Hannah Kettner and Jessica Brand, for this year’s “braggin’ rights.” Come on out and support the Tigers. The admission for the event is $1.00 for everyone.

Funeral services for Margie McCay of Salem, age 82, will be held today at 10:00 at the Victor Baptist Church in Anutt. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home in Licking.

Funeral services for Milton Lavern Camden of Lenox, age 75, will be held today at 1:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Boss Cemetery. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem.

Funeral services for Lois “Westerman” Hubbs of Salem, age 89, will be held today at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dry Fork Cemetery.

Funeral services for Geneva Marie Scott of Viburnum, age 90, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Shoal Creek Cemetery.

Funeral services for Sean Aaron Martin of Salem, age 18, will be held Sunday at 3:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
