The Flu Clinic to be held at the Salem Senior Center today has been cancelled due to shortage of the vaccine.  At this time the clinic has not been rescheduled.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that ditch work would be done on Dent County Roads 5150, 5450 and 6590; and rock would be hauled to Dent County Roads 5150 and 5450 as well.  Purcell also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5100 and 5105. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3180 and 4270. Larson also reported that District 2 has 10 FEMA Project Worksheets totaling $336,358 that need to be turned into FEMA for 75% reimbursement. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles wanted to remind anyone that recently received notice of a late address change, that they will receive mail that is addressed to their old address until October 1^st of 2010. Beverly Atchison stopped by the meeting to discuss with the Commission about how to get a speed limit set on Dent County Road 3270. The Commission explained that she would need to get a petition stating what she would like the speed limit to be set at, then have the residents of that road sign the petition agreeing to that speed limit. She would then need to bring the petition to the Commission. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public. 

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting this morning at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 10:00 am. During the hearing of persons, Michelle Blackwell from the Salem United Methodist Church is requesting that Doss Road from Highway 32 to Roosevelt Street be blocked off on Saturday, October 31^st for the Halloween Trunk of Treat from 4:00 to 9:00 pm and Beverly Flanery from the Grace Community Church is requesting the blocking of 600 South Water Street to Franklin Street on Saturday, October 31^st for a church and community event from 4:00 to 9:00 pm, and Grace is also requesting the same closing on Saturday, November 28^th from noon until 6:00 pm for another church event. Alderman Jim McDaniels, Jim Jackson, Kenneth Nash and Brad Nash will discuss miscellaneous items involving the City of Salem along with comments on issues from Mayor Gary Brown. During the Introduction and Reading of Bills, Bill #3181 is an ordinance needed to show that the City of Salem is following the new laws concerning immigration, Bill #3182 is an ordinance needed to show that the City of Salem agrees to the settlement with AT & T/SBC Landline. In new and miscellaneous business, there are three budget adjustment that need to made including; $16,500 from Capital Improvement Street Backhoe to Capital Improvement Water Backhoe because the final lease payment for the Water Department’s backhoe was left off the budget and this adjustment will cover the final payment. Also $10,000 from Capital Improvement Mapping Water System and $10,000 from Capital Improvement Sewer Engineering Fees to Development Study for Bio-Mass Generation. The Board will also address putting out for bids the damaged cedar trees at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. After approval of the bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public. 

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Thursday, September 24^th at 9:40 pm, the Dent County Fire Protection District was paged out to County Road 2155 to assist the Salem Memorial District Hospital with one male patient. A total of nine firefighters responded to the call. On Sunday, September 27^th at 11:45 pm, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to County Road 2300 due to a structure fire. Upon arrival, 11 firefighters found the structure was fully involved and already on the ground. The cause of the fire is unknown. On Monday, September 28^th at 4:06 in the afternoon, the Dent County Fire Protection District was paged out to the 100 block of South Jackson due to a fire. Upon arrival, 10 firefighters found a grease fire that was already put out. The scene was under control at 4:21 that afternoon.
