The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Former Crawford County Commissioner Leo Sanders was in attendance as a visitor. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4080 and 5390, while materials will be added and grading will be done on Dent County Roads 6040 and 6460. He also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5430 and that workers are repairing the trailer lights on the equipment trailer. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that grading would be performed on Dent County Roads 2620, 2630, 3130, 3135, 3200 and 4290; while materials will be added and grading will be done to Dent County Roads 2530 and 2570. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated that he attended a CWIB caucus meeting in Jefferson City and said that even though traffic is less than before, the career centers are still busy but that resources to help the people looking for work are being trimmed in the state budget. At the last meeting, the commission approved the bid from MFA Oil for the diesel for $3.004 per gallon and unleaded at $2.843 per gallon. The MFA bid was lower than the bid from Hocker Oil Company. The next meeting will be Monday at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports of assault, warrants, property damage, and theft. On Wednesday, September 21^st at 3:03 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1200 block of North Jackson in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed that a 23-year old male of Salem had assaulted another 23-year old female of Salem. That same afternoon at 4:00, an officer made contact with a 34-year old male of Salem who had three active fugitive warrants from the St. James Police Department. He was taken into custody on the warrants and later posted bond and was released with a court date. Later at 4:55 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of South Macarthur in reference to an assault. That investigation led to the arrest of a 54-year old female of Jadwin for assaulting a 28-year-old male of Salem. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, September 22^nd at 8:36 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of South Carty in reference to property damage. Investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown cut three tires on a white 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. The value of the damage is $300. At 2:09 that afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of East Center in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took an RV power cord that was plugged into the RV valued at $100. Anyone with any information regarding the assault, property damage, or theft is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Doe Run Company recently welcomed five new employees to the Southeast Missouri Mining and Milling Division (SEMO) in Viburnum and to the Buick Resource Recycling Division (BRRD) in Boss. Richard Anderson of Salem, who has a bachelor’s degree in geology from Middle Tennessee State, was appointed to the role of mine geologist at SEMO. Anderson will assist senior geologists in the search for additional ore, maintain and document ore resources, and give direction to the mining department. Dilon Bailey of Viburnum was appointed to the role of mine geologist and Ernest Jim of Viburnum was hired as an electrical engineer in SEMO’s maintenance department. Adam Miller of Bourbon joined BRRD as an environmental engineer, improving the environmental performance of the facility. Miller returned to Doe Run after serving as a field technician at Resource Environmental Management Consultants. Mike Morton of Viburnum rejoined Doe Run as a senior metallurgical engineer in BRRD’s refinery and hot metals department. Morton previously worked at Doe Run’s corporate office as a manufacturing manager, leading the company’s operational excellence change initiatives throughout North America.

The 48^th Annual Rose Holland Trout Derby will be held this Saturday and Sunday at the Montauk State Park. Participants will have the opportunity to fish for tagged trout and anglers catching tagged trout will receive prizes awarded on Sunday just after the derby ends at noon. Registration will be from 5:00 tonight until 11:30 Sunday morning. Other activities surrounding the fishing derby will be held this weekend. An Old-Time Cruise-In Car Show will be held at the Searcy Building today at 4:00. Nature Bingo for prizes will be held tonight at 6:00 at the campground amphitheater. Saturday will feature ‘Hikes for your Heart,’ a health screening from the Salem Memorial District Hospital, an auction and plenty of musical entertainment with many more activities filling the weekend.

The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball team fell to Willow Springs in two straight games, 25-22 and 25-13. Netcoming ceremonies were held last night prior to the match with Dustin Sercl being crowned king. The Lady Tigers will host Rolla on Tuesday.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers lost to Union 8-2 Thursday to go to 16-7 on the year. The Lady Tigers will face Mountain View/Liberty Monday in the final game before district play.

The Salem Tiger football team will be in Ava tonight to face the Bears. Salem is 2-3 on the year and in the SCA. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Bill Schuchardt.

T.J. Oshie and Patrik Berglund both scored in the third period to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in preseason action. David Backes also tallied for the Blues, who got two assists from Andy McDonald. The Blues play their final preseason game on Saturday.

The St. Louis Cardinals play Game 1 and 2 of the NLDS in Philadelphia against the Phillies this weekend. You can hear the games, starting with the pre-game shows on Saturday at 3:32 and Sunday at 6:32 on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Minnesota Vikings Sunday while the St. Louis Rams host the Washington Redskins. Both games get underway at noon.

Funeral service for Clyde H. Allmon of Salem, age 99, will be held Monday at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem.
