An accident occurred at 6:16 Tuesday evening in Salem. According to Salem Police Chief Keith Steelman, a 2007 Dodge driven by Simone Stuart exited the west driveway of Wal-Mart and was crossing Highway 32 to Elmer Street and made contact with a motor scooter driven by Charles Gibbs that was traveling westbound on Highway 32. Gibbs suffered injuries and was transported for medical attention.   

An accident occurred Wednesday at 5:15 in the morning in Phelps County on I-44 at mile marker 176 that took the life of a man from St. Louis. According to the highway patrol report, a 2009 Chevrolet Express Van driven by 58-year old David George of St. Louis was eastbound on I-44 when he lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck the cable barriers, and overturned; ejecting George. Dr. Hutchison pronounced George dead at the scene at 5:36 AM. The body was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Phelps County ambulance. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The van sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Dishman’s Towing of Rolla.

Tonight at the Salem High School gym before the Lady Tiger Varsity Volleyball game starting at 6:00 will be Netcoming. The Netcoming court includes Senior Candidates Dustin Sercyl, DJ Swensen and Carson Sheppard. The Junior Attendant will be  Hunter Barnes, and the Sophomore Attendant will be Austin Wulff. The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, September 16th at 2:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to the fraudulent use of a credit card. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown used the credit card of another without permission advancing $300 in cash. Later that afternoon at 4:10, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1400 block of South Jackson in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a 12-inch flatbed tilt trailer valued at $1400 from the yard of a residence. At 10:16 that evening, an officer was sent to Warfel and Hawkins Streets in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 27-year old Bunker male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Sunday, September 18th at 2:53 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to damage to an apartment door. That investigation revealed that a 27-year old male of Bunker did $300 in damage to a door to an apartment while in an intoxicated condition. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Monday, September 19th at 1:02 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 900 block of South Oak in reference to an assault.  The investigation of the report revealed that a 39-year old Salem male had assaulted a 27-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Later that day at 6:00 in the evening an officer observed a 27-year old Salem male in the 1300 block of South Water who had an active warrant from Dent County and an active warrant from Reynolds County. He was taken into custody on the warrants and incarcerated pending a court date and extradition. Anyone with information regarding an on going investigation is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host the Willow Springs Lady Bears tonight starting at 6:00 with Netcoming. There is no JV game tonight so the varsity game will begin after the ceremony. The 7th and 8th grade Football Tigers played Tuesday night in a make up game from last Thursday at Liberty. In the 7th grade game, Eli Floyd scored twice for Salem on 35-yard run as the Tigers lost, 30-14. In the 8^th grade game, Derek McClain scored three touchdowns including one on a kickoff return, while Aaron Hodges and Dylan Wisdom each rushed for a TD with the 8th grade winning, 38-20. The teams will host Cabool today at 5:30.

It came down to the final day of the regular season, but the Cardinals finally overcame the Braves and are headed to the playoffs. Behind Chris Carpenter's second shutout of the season, St. Louis blanked the Houston Astros, 8-0, at Minute Maid Park. St. Louis (90-72) had erased a 10 1/2-game deficit for the NL wild card and came into Wednesday's contest even with the Braves. Carpenter (11-9) gave up just two hits and a walk with a season-high 11 strikeouts. Skip Schumaker drove in two runs while David Freese went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Cardinals, who won four of their final five games of the regular season. The Cardinals will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the playoffs starting on Saturday at a time to be announced.

Trevor Plouffe's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth sent Minnesota past Kansas City, 1-0, in the season finale for both clubs. Blake Wood (5-3) surrendered the deciding run in the ninth. Bruce Chen tossed eight scoreless frames, allowing eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts for the Royals (71-91), who concluded the year having split their last 10 contests. The Royals finished with at least 91 losses for the 11th time since 1997.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Colorado Avalanche at the Scottrade Center in pre-season play tonight starting at 7:00. The Blues are 4-2 in pre-season play and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio immediately following the Lady Tigers Volleyball game. The Blues regular season will begin on October 8^th against Nashville.

A Celebration of Life for Sarah Dawn Cotner, age 23, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sarah Cotner Family.

Memorials services for Austin Thomas Wilder of St. James, age 23, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Joseph W. Thompson of Bunker, age 89, will be held Friday at 3:00 pm at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Chatman Cemetery near Bunker.   

Funeral services for Florence E. Conway of St. James, age 95, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Children’s Church Fund.
