An accident occurred at 10:35 Friday night in Crawford County on Highway 19 about 12 miles south of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer driven by 18-year old Bradley Brawner of Steelville, traveled off the right side of the roadway, and then the driver overcorrected, traveled back onto the roadway, ran off the left side of the roadway, and overturned coming to rest facing south. Brawner suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to St. John’s in Creve Coeur. There were four other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident: 18-year old Brandon Black of Cherryville suffered serious injuries and was flown by Life Line to St. John’s in Creve Coeur; 16-year old Reba Mounce of Salem suffered moderate injuries and was taken by the Iron County ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan; and 17-year old Rachel Paul and 19-year old Joseph Yocom, both of Steelville, suffered moderate injuries and were taken by the Missouri Baptist Ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevy Blazer was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Miles Towing. Charges are pending in the accident.

An accident happened Sunday afternoon at 2:35 in Phelps County on Highway 63 about two miles north of Edgar Springs that left five people with injuries. According to the highway patrol report. A 1998 Ford Escort driven southbound by 37-year old Scott Hamilton of Edgar Springs, went out of control when the front seat passenger turned around and grabbed the steering wheel causing the Ford to travel off the right side of the roadway and strike a guardrail. Suffering moderate injuries were 13-year old Michaela Hamilton and the driver, Scott Hamilton. Suffering moderate injuries were 35-year old Angela Hamilton, eight-year old Elijah Hamilton and 10-year old Allysa Hamilton. All were taken by ambulance or private vehicle to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Ford Escort was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Lucas Towing.

An accident occurred at 10:18 Saturday night in Texas County on Highway 32 about three miles east of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Mercury driven by 46-year old Thomas Glenn of Licking, ran off the roadway on a curve, striking a fence and two trees. Glenn suffered serious injuries and was flown to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Mercury was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by A1 Towing of Houston. Summons are pending in the accident.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform pavement repairs on Route O in Phelps and Dent Counties beginning today. The work will take place between the intersections of Routes 72 and OO. Workers and equipment will be on the roadway between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting. Cody Wofford scored two touchdowns and the Salem Tigers built a 35-0 first half lead before cruising to a 48-20 win over Willow Springs Friday night. Salem received touchdowns from Derek Freeman, Landie Oliver, Yousef Ibrahim, Ashton Karr, and Ryan Smith. Salem is 4-1 on the year and 3-1 in the SCA. They will face Mountain View-Liberty in the Tiger Homecoming game this Friday night in Salem.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host the St. Clair Lady Bulldogs today at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Field. The Lady Tigers are 7-10 going into the game.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers beat Cabool Thursday in two straight games, 25-13 and 25-14 to even their SCA record at 1-1. They will be on the road tonight at Rolla to face the Lady Bulldogs starting at 6:00 with the JV contest with the varsity game to follow. The JV also beat Cabool Thursday night by the scores of 25-14 and 25-17.

Larry Johnson had 198 yards on 28 carries, with two touchdowns, as the Kansas City Chiefs shocked the Denver Broncos with a 33-19 win at Arrowhead Stadium. Damon Huard was a proficient 21-for-28 with 160 yards and a touchdown while Dwayne Bowe added seven receptions for 85 yards for the Chiefs (1-3), who halted a franchise-worst 12-game losing streak.

Trent Edwards threw for a touchdown and Jabari Greer had an interception return for a touchdown as the Buffalo Bills defeated the St. Louis Rams, 31-14. Trent Green, making the start in place of the benched Marc Bulger, went 17- for-32 with 236 yards and an interception while Steven Jackson had 24 carries for 110 yards and a score and added five receptions for 78 yards for the Rams (0-4), who have lost eight straight going back to last season.

Ryan Ludwick and Felipe Lopez drove in three runs each as the St. Louis Cardinals swept a season-ending three-game set from the Cincinnati Reds with an 11-4 victory at Busch Stadium. Lopez had four hits and scored twice while Ludwick hit a two-run homer and doubled. Troy Glaus hit his 27th home run for St. Louis (86-76), which will carry a six-game winning streak into next season.

Scott Baker combined with two relievers on a five-hit shutout, as Minnesota inched closer to their fifth AL Central title in the last seven years with a 6-0 win over Kansas City. Mike Aviles was 2-for-4 with a double for the Royals (75-87), who ended their season by winning five of their final six games. Brandon Duckworth (3-3) was the hard-luck loser, allowing just two runs on two hits in six innings.

The Chicago White Sox will have to play a makeup game with Detroit today to help determine the final playoff spot as the White Sox trail the Minnesota Twins by ½ game. A win by the White Sox would force a one-game playoff between Chicago and Minnesota.
