The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that brush was being cut on Dent County Road 4250 and that a man was sent to Springfield for a load of chip and seal oil. He said that workers were cleaning culverts and crossovers, as well as checking and repairing washouts. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that workers were repairing washouts on Dent County Road 4283, and performing maintenance on Truck 114. He said that he had one man screening gravel and one was cutting brush on Dent County Road 6120. Presiding Commissioner Skiles asked about the status of the County’s commitment to the SACBA for gravel at the Farmers’ Market. Both Commissioners Purcell and Larson said all the gravel had been hauled.  Commissioner Skiles wanted to remind everyone of the electronic waste collection October 20th from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at 3rd and Grand, which is being co-sponsored by Dent County, City of Salem and Ozark Solid Waste Management. County Clerk Angie Curley reminded everyone that October 10th is the last day to register to vote for the General Election.  Mayor Gary Brown was by to remind the Commissioners of MRPC Banquet coming up at Hermann in November and that tentative plans are for the banquet to be in Salem next year.  Matt Lloyd of Fabick Caterpillar was in to discuss motor grader maintenance comparisons and their bid. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams asked the Commissioners to sign off on two fund transfers. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at the courthouse and it is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 11:45 Thursday morning in Dent County that took the life of a Salem man. According to the highway patrol report, 33-year old Christopher Pollard of Salem was riding a 2009 Harley Davidson on Highway H, about eight miles west of Salem, when it struck a deer. Pollard lost control and was ejected. Dent County Coroner Gina White pronounced Pollard dead at the scene at 12:43 and his body was taken to the Wilson Mortuary in Salem per his family’s request. Pollard was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The motorcycle sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the accident.

The Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center announces that a preview of the traveling exhibit “Lincoln: The Constitution and The Civil War” will be held Monday evening from 5:00 to 8:00. The exhibit is free and will be available for public viewing starting October 2nd and lasting through November 10th at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South main Street. For additional information on scheduling more viewing times or a group or school visit, call the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 729-0029 between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Dent County Sheriff’s Office located at 112 East 5th along with the Salem Police Department located at 506 North Jackson Street will be participating in a “TAKE BACK” program that will be held on Saturday, September 29th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Any expired prescriptions or over the counter drugs, as well as needles will be accepted with no questions asked.

The Salem Lady Tiger softball game scheduled for yesterday in Salem against Union was postponed to due the wet conditions and scheduled to be played today at 4:00, HAS BEEN CANCELLED!! Salem is 13-5-1 on the year and 4-1 in the SCA.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers lost to Cabool in two sets on Thursday, 25-8 and 25-19. Salem will play Rolla on Tuesday.

The Salem Tiger football team will be in Willow Springs tonight to take on the Bears in SCA action. Salem is 5-0 on the year and 3-0 in the SCA. You’ll be able to hear the game at 6:30 on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will start a three-game series with the Washington National tonight at 6:40. St. Louis has a three game lead for the final Wild Card spot with six games remaining. You’ll be able to hear tonight’s game on KSMO following Salem Tiger football.

A bases-loaded groundout in the bottom of the ninth by Alex Avila plated Don Kelly with the winning run, as the Detroit Tigers completed a four-game sweep over the Kansas City Royals with a 5-4 victory at Comerica Park. Billy Butler hit a game-tying homer in the top of the ninth but the Royals lost for the fifth straight game. Tim Collins (5-4) took the loss, charged with the deciding run while recording just one out. The Royals start a series with the Indians tonight.

The Missouri Tiger football team will be on the road Saturday to face off with the University of Central Florida. Missouri is 2-2 on the year and 0-2 in the SEC. Kick-off is set for 11:00 and you’ll be able to hear it on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Rams will host the Seattle Seahawks Sunday at noon. The Rams have a 1-2 record and this will be their first division game of the year. The Kansas City Chiefs will also be home on Sunday, as they will host division rival San Diego Chargers at noon. The Chiefs are also 1-2 on the year.

The National Hockey League has announced the cancellation of the remainder of the 2012 preseason schedule due to the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The NHL and its players' union are scheduled to resume bargaining today for the first time since the lockout began.

Funeral services for Joshua Wayne Sanders of Rolla, age 34, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Greentree Christian Church of Rolla. Visitation will be today from 2:00 to 6:00 at the Greentree Christian Church. Memorials are suggested to Jordan and Logan Sanders Scholarship Fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. 

Funeral services for Christopher Alan Pollard of Salem, age 33, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be today from 3:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Asher Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Chrisopher Pollard Memorial Fund at US Bank.

Funeral services for Jim Allison of Salem, age 67, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
