On Wednesday, September 24th in the Board of Alderman story in Your World Today, indicated that Mayor J.J. Tune said Sunday the City presented a Proclamation for Gladys Sisco Day. The last name should have been Chrisco. Gladys Chrisco has lived at the Seville Care Center for 10,000 days, which is over 27 years. We are sorry for the error.

An accident occurred at 9:40 Wednesday evening in Texas County on Highway AF about eleven miles northwest of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, 44-year old Jettie Venker of Licking was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer south when she ran off the right side of the roadway, overturned, and struck a tree. Venker was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. She was flown by Air Evac to Cox Medical Center in Springfield.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, September 12th at 2:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery. The investigation revealed that a 43-year old Salem female had forged a check of another in the amount of $40. She was arrested and issued a summons to appear in court. Later that evening at 8:08, an officer was detailed to a room at the Walnut Motel in reference to shots that had been fired. That investigation revealed that a 40-year old Salem male had fired several shots with a pistol through the door and window of the room. He was arrested and found to be in possession of heroin and methamphetamine and a large sum of cash. A search warrant was conducted for the room, which led to the discovery of opium, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, September 13th at 7:30 in the morning, a 25-year old Salem male was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Sunday, September 14th at 2:22 in the afternoon, an officer was called to a residence in the 1800 block of South Oak in reference to damage to private property. That investigation revealed that someone damaged a Silver 2008 Chevrolet truck that was parked near that location. The value of the damage is approximately $400. On Monday, September 15th at 2:22 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to Dollar General in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $3.10. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, September 16th at 11:25 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a two-wheel dolly valued $200 off of a green 1993 Chevrolet truck. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites you to celebrate the Show-Me-State's rich hunting heritage and fishing traditions through its National Hunting and Fishing Day events being held around the state in late September. National Hunting and Fishing Day was created by Congress in 1972 to commemorate past, present, and future conservation successes and to honor those sportsmen and sportswomen who began the modern conservation movement. Discover nature at MDC's Twin Pines Conservation Education Center in Winona off of Highway 60 during Great Outdoors Day on Saturday, September 27th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy archery, fishing, info on backpacking, and more.

Colonel Ronald Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, invites the public to take part in a public opinion survey regarding safety and security, officers' attitudes and competency, overall agency performance, and concerns regarding crime and social issues. The 2014 Public Opinion Survey can be found on the Patrol's website at www.mshp.dps.mo.gov. Click on the link at the top, left of the Patrol's home page to initiate the survey.

There is the common misconception that eating healthy has to be expensive. That doesn’t have to hold true. Dietician Jason Edwards from the Salem District Memorial Hospital will explain how to build a healthy meal on a budget. You will leave with the tools you need to fuel your body right while keeping your bank account intact. This class will be held on Monday, September 29 at 5:30 PM at the Salem Community Center @ The Armory located at 1200 W. Rolla Road.  They can only accommodate 20 participants and spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please pre-register by calling 729-8163 or email info@salemtcrc.com. The cost for class is $10 per registrant.  Dinner will be provided.

Mark Twain National Forest in 2014 will join other federal agencies offering recreation fee-free days on public lands on National Public Lands Day. Free camping at non-reserved campsites Friday, September 26th and Saturday, September 27th, free day use on Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th. Camping and day use fees will be required at all concessionaire-operated sites. Motorized trail permits and normal fees still apply for use of Chadwick and Sutton Bluff trail systems. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, September 27th aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. The Salem Police Department located at 500 North Jackson and the Dent County Sheriff’s Office located at 112 East 5th Street will be participating this Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers used a six-run fourth inning to power past the Ava Lady Bears on Wednesday, 13-4. Payton Curley finished 2 for 3 with four RBI while Kirsten Strebe added 2 RBI while going 2 for 3 also. Salem is now 9-2 on the year and 3-0 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers will host Thayer today in a crucial SCA matchup. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com. The game will also be filmed by Fidelity Local 6.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host Houston tonight at the SHS gym. The JV will strat things out at 6:00 with the varsity match to follow.

Jake Arrieta used his arm and his bat to carry the Cubs to a series win over the NL Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday as Chicago pulled out a 3-1 victory. The loss prevented St. Louis from extending its lead over the second-place Pirates, though the Cardinals' magic number for a second-straight division title dipped to three following the Pirates' loss to Atlanta. The Cardinals have the day off today before traveling to Arizona to start a three-game series with the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Yan Gomes hit a three-run homer to help the Cleveland Indians keep their slim playoff hopes alive with a 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Brandon Finnegan (0-1) was charged with the loss in his first-career decision for Kansas City, which had its three-game winning streak snapped and now trails Detroit by two games in the AL Central. The Royals will be in Chicago to start a four-game series with the White Sox tonight.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in pre-season action. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio at 7:00.

Graveside services for Carl Hertfelder Jr. of St. James, age 85, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10:00 until time of service at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Lewis Edwards of Salem, age 67, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Memorial services for Donald S. Presson of St. James, age 84, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Pentecostal Church in Vichy. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Earlene Beck of Steelville, age 76, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Steelville Ambulance District.

Funeral services for Donna Hayes of Bunker, age 78, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Bunker 1st Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 tonight at McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Crossville Cemetery in Bunker. Memorials may be made to the Donna Hayes Memorial Fund.
