On Saturday night at 11:40, a stabbing incident occurred in Salem on a commercial parking lot. According to Salem Police Chief Clifford Jadwin, 22-year old Kent L. Garn Jr. of Salem was stabbed with a knife and was in critical condition. Jadwin reported that on Sunday evening at 5:30, 29-year old Rodney L. London of Salem was arrested by the Salem Police and was charged with assault in the 1st degree, armed criminal action, a Class B felony, for the stabbing. London was incarcerated in the Dent County Jail with bond set at $50,000 and it is a cash only bond. Jadwin said that the Salem Police Department is still investigating the incident and there could possibly be a third person named that was involved in the stabbing.

The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune was not in attendance, as he was out of town. District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 628, ditch work would be done on Dent County Road 552 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 421. Simpson said that a crew would be hauling rock to the crusher and a crew would be leveling driveway approaches on various chip and seal roads. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he would be attending an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management meeting Tuesday and a Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Commission meeting Wednesday; both meetings are at the MRPC in St. James. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she would be attending a County Clerk’s Training Session Thursday in Branson. Curley also proposed to the Commission that the county take bids on propane for the courthouse on a yearly basis rather than monthly. The Commission agreed and will open bids sometime in October. Also at the meeting, Commissioner Simpson discussed the record storage problem that the courthouse and judicial building are having. Simpson said when Commissioner Tune returns; they will address the topic more. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Captain Luke Vislay, director of the Division of Drug and Crime Control, announced the arrest of 20-year old Richard B. Holland of Eminence, for the murder of Jeremiah Hughes. On September 13, 2007, at approximately 7:53 p.m., the Eminence Police Department and Shannon County Sheriff's Department responded to 208 West Missouri Apartment 14 in Eminence, regarding an injured 5-year-old male. Jeremiah Hughes was located at the residence suffering from severe head injuries and was later transported by helicopter to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Investigators from the Missouri State Highway Patrol were asked to assist in the investigation of the injured boy, who died on September 20th at 9:45 a.m., as the result of the injuries sustained while in the care of Holland. Following a joint investigation, Holland, the live-in boyfriend of Hughes’ mother, was arrested at 11:40 a.m. on September 20, 2007.  Holland is being held in the Shannon County Jail on $250,000 bond and has been charged with: endangering the welfare of a child in the 1st degree, and murder 2nd degree.

The Dent County Health Center will be holding a flu clinic on Thursday, October 11th at the Salem Freedom Activity Center from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Everyone is eligible to receive the shot and there will be a $20 charge. The Health Center will bill Medicare of Medicaid; however, you MUST bring your card with you. Pregnant women MUST bring a doctors order to receive the vaccine. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers defeated the Rolla Lady Bulldogs by the scores of 25-14, 20-25 and 25-10. They are now 8-4-1 on the year and they will host the Thayer Lady Bobcats in SCA play tonight starting at 6:00 with Netcoming. The varsity contest will follow the ceremony and you can hear it on KSMO at about 6:20.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers are scheduled to host Iberia today, weather permitting, starting at 4:30 at the Salem Freedom Activity Center Fields.

The Missouri Football Tigers moved up to #20 in the current Associated Press Coaches Poll after their win over Illinois State to go to 4-0 on the year. Missouri has the week off to prepare for the Big 12 north division battle with Nebraska on October 6th. That game will start at 8:00 in the evening and will be nationally televised.

Prince Fielder hit his 48th home run of the season, a towering three-run shot in the first inning, as the Milwaukee Brewers pounded the St. Louis Cardinals, 13-5, in a tension-filled opener of a three-game set. The Brewers moved three games behind Chicago for the division lead. The Cubs were idle on Monday. Gary Bennett hit a two-run home run for the Cardinals, who saw their modest two-game winning streak come to an end. Adam Wainwright (13-12) was tagged with the loss after giving up nine runs -- four earned -- on eight hits through five innings of work. Before the game, the Cardinals announced that both catcher Yadier Molina and pitcher Mark Mulder underwent surgical procedures. Molina underwent a medial menisectomy of his right knee while Mulder underwent left shoulder arthroscopic surgery. The Cards and Brewers will play again tonight and KSMO will join the game in progress after Salem Tiger Volleyball.

Nick Markakis' solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning was the difference as the Baltimore Orioles took a makeup game from the Kansas City Royals, 3-2, at Camden Yards. Gil Meche (9-13) was the tough-luck loser, allowing three earned runs on seven hits in a complete game effort. Mark Teahen was 3-for-4 with an RBI to power the Kansas City offense, as the Royals lost for a third time in four games. Mark Grudzielanek hit a pinch homer in the game for the Royals, his first ever pinch-hit homer. The Royals will travel to Chicago to face the White Sox tonight.

Funeral services Nola M. Gaines of Salem, age 85, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 Wednesday morning until service time. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hope Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral service for Norma Jean Coleman of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, formerly of St. James, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. Memorials may be made to the Southern Cemetery. Interment will be in the Southern Cemetery in rural St. James.

Lenore Jenschke of Salem passed away on Sunday, September 23rd at the age of 80 years. No services are scheduled. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
