The Dent County Commissioners met Monday for their regular meeting. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported the CART receipts for the month of September were $58,080.07 and that is the highest amount collected for any month this year. Year-to-date, the county has collected $479,878.23 and that is $20,972.13 more than for the same time period as in 2013. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5615, 5680, 6610, 6620 and 6665. Materials would be added to and grading would be done on county road 4080, and materials were also going to be added to county road 6580. Purcell said brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5100, 5103 and 5105. Purcell also reported that workers are preparing the asphalt machine to spread asphalt south of the quarry on Dent County Road 5220 to Route B for the two residents living there. Purcell said Pace Construction is donating six loads of asphalt for this project and the county plans on laying the asphalt three-inches thick on Tuesday. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2380 and 4430, while materials would be added to and grading done on county road 3220. Larson went on to say brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2330 and 6160. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he would be attending a South Central Region Workforce Investment Board Caucus meeting Wednesday in Jefferson City. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley will be attending her annual clerk training later this week. She did say the last day to register to vote would be October 8th for those new to Dent County, and for those already in Dent County, if you have had a name or address change, please come and change your registration before election day. Lou Trombley came in to discuss an address situation for his subdivision Tranquility Acres. He has a person building a new home in the subdivision and, according to Trombley, once there were two residents in the subdivision the county would take over the road that was made to county specs when the subdivision was put in. Right now the road sign says 600 Private Drive and according to Dent County Rural Addressing, that conflicts with another private drive near Montauk, but once the other home is built, the private drive will become a county road. According to Dent County Rural Addressing, the lane into Trombley’s property should be 700 Private Drive, not 600. Trombley doesn’t want to keep changing road signs and addresses, and after some discussion with the commission, he is going to change the number on the road sign to 700. At the last meeting, the commission approved allowing the Midwest Blue Oval Car Club (formerly known as the Cobra Club) to use the courthouse grounds for a car show on October 11th. The next meeting of the commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s office released reports. On Tuesday, September 16th a Deputy responded to the intersection of County Road 3330 and County Road 3335 for a report of property damage. Upon arrival, the Deputy discovered that a mailbox had been damaged.  The mailbox had been struck with a blunt object and shot with a weapon twice. On Friday, September 19th the Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary in the 5000 block of South Highway 19. Deputies responded to the residence and made contact with the victim, a 32-year old Salem male. The victim reported numerous items having been taken. At the time of the call, the victim was unable to give an accurate approximation of the value of the stolen items. That same day, deputies responded to the 100 block of County Road 2183 for a report of domestic assault. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a 53-year old Salem female was the reported victim of domestic assault. She stated that her son had been drinking and arrived home requesting his vehicle keys. The mother refused to give her son the keys so he assaulted her by punching her in her left eye. The eye had abnormal swelling with immense bruising and redness. As a result of this call, 29-year old James C. Flett of St. James was arrested on charges of domestic assault 2nd degree. Mr. Flett was incarcerated at the Dent County Jail and is currently being held on a $14,000 cash only bond. And a 55-year old male came into the Sheriff's Office and dropped off a statement in reference to a burglary. The burglary occurred on August 24th, 2014, on County Road 5530. The victim’s neighbor witnessed a brown in color SUV with an aluminum trailer backed up to the rear door of the residence. He discovered his outside central air conditioner unit was missing. Anyone with info regarding the burglary is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office at 729-3241.
