The Salem R-80 Board of Education held their final budget workshop Tuesday evening. Superintendent Cindy Rumpf explained expenditures to just a couple people in attendance. The Annual Secretary Budget Report (ASBR) for the 2009/2010 school year showed in reserves in Fund I (which everything is paid out of except teachers and construction) $2,633,903.39 and Fund IV (which is for capital projects, roofs, HVAC and additions) had an ending balance of $2,537,934.70. Estimated revenue for the 2010/2011 school year is $12,470,123 and estimated expenses are at $13,048,963 leaving a deficit of $578,840; which resulted from paying the Career Ladder Program for this school year and the roofing projects that needed to be addressed. Rumpf did note that there is 18% in the reserve funds. She also noted that this year is the last year for the stabilization money and that hopes are high that the jobs bill may help funding for next year. With the state cuts, summer school may not survive this year and R-80 was told not to consider it next year. The ARRA Funds will disappear in the year 2011/2012. With so much uncertainty with the economy, the R-80 Board of Education is watching very carefully and weighing in on each decision that needs to be made regarding expenses, revenues, and funds for each of their accounts on a daily basis. The Salem R-80 school district is using a pilot program this year governed by the federal government for accountability of all the funds. There are timelines on a lot of the funding received. Rumpf did note that next year, there would also be a program of accountability regarding teacher evaluations as well. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. The Board will address program evaluations on safety, transportation and the co/extra curricular activities followed by communications. Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will address the district activity calendar, give a budget update and inform the Board about MSIP. In new business, the Board will hear from the CIA-PLC leadership teams, address the MUSIC renewal, approve the 2010/2011 comprehensive school improvement plans and approve bus routes. The Board will then adjourn and move into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing property. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the tax meeting and regular meeting held back on August 19^th, Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board on the auxiliary report, hospital calendar and legislative issues. Following the summary of operations and statistics report for the month of August and the Director of Nursing Report will be the chief of staff report. In old business, the Board will discuss a strategic planning update, the hospital lagoon, the hospital foundation committee and the annual bylaw review. In new business, the Board will address the finance committee appointments, the dialysis state survey, address the Joint Board of Directors/Medical Staff dinner on December 9^th at the Holiday Inn Express, the Employee Holiday Awards dinner at the Salem City Hall on December 10^th and hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.
