The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that most of the major work in repairing the roads in District 1 have been done. He said that the minor damages to roads would be addressed when the roads are graded. Simpson said that grading is being done on Dent County Roads 4080, 6350, 6480 and 6485 as well as in the Sinkin’ area on Dent County Road 5610. Simpson said materials are being added to Dent County Road 5610. He said that brush cutting is being done on Dent County Road 5480 and 6480. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune said that crews were finishing up patching Dent County Roads 4260, 4270 and 4280, then patchwork will begin on Dent County Roads 2240, 3200 and 3300. Tune said that materials are being added to those roads. He said that work is going to be done on the Crisco Bridge and that the county is planning on pouring a new deck for the bridge. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he attended the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District meeting last week to determine who would receive grant requests for their recycling projects. Skiles said that grant requests came to $233,000 and there was only $162,800 available to be awarded. Skiles said that Dent County received two of the grants: the Scenic Rivers Industries received a grant of $10,500 for a document shredder; and the City of Salem received a grant of $10,000 for a recycling trailer and bins. Skiles said he would be attending a MREPC meeting on Tuesday and rural address training on Wednesday at the Salem TCRC with Spatial Data Research. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reminds everyone that the last day to register to vote in the general election will be October 8th. She said that she registered six students to vote last week at the high school. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On September 15th at 3:25 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of an 18-year old East Alton, Illinois woman for possession of marijuana. She bonded out on the charge and was given a court date. On September 18th at 11:24 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 1000 block of East Roosevelt in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed person(s) unknown had shot a window with a BB breaking the window. On September 20th at 6:22 in the evening, an officer contacted a 32-year old Salem woman in the area of 300 West 5th Street in reference to a warrant for her arrest, for operating a motor vehicle without a license. She posted bond on the warrant and was released with a court date. At 6:30 that same evening, an officer was sent to the 300 block of East Margaret in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed person(s) unknown had shot a window with a BB breaking the window. Anyone with information pertaining to the property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please call the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242.

The Salem Area Arts Council is sponsoring Bird Photography with Dr. Lentz tonight beginning at 7:00 pm at the Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center located at 202 South Main in Salem. This program is in conjunction with the exhibit of David Plank. Dr. Lentz is a member of the Audubon Society for many years and retired from the civil engineering department at the University of Missouri in Rolla. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers beat Dixon by the score of 4-3. There was no JV game played. The Lady Tigers will face Thayer today in a makeup game from a rainout last Monday at the Salem City Park Field at 4:30. The game with West Plains that was scheduled today has been rescheduled for October 3rd at West Plains.

Justin Moore had two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion to help lead the Salem 9th graders past St. James, 44-0. Devon Sutterfield , Andrew Conaway, Sammy Ibrahim and Austin Agers also scored for Salem who will be at Mountain View-Liberty next Monday.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host the Houston Lady Tigers in SCA play tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV contest. The varsity game will follow and you can hear the varsity contest on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com.

Brandon Webb did what a stopper does -- pitching deep into a crucial game and coming out on top -- as Arizona inched closer to the Dodgers in the National League West race with a 4-2 victory over St. Louis at Busch Stadium. Todd Wellemeyer (12-9) was hit with the loss after giving up three runs on nine hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in six frames. Felipe Lopez finished 3-for-5 for the Cardinals, losers of three straight and 10 of 12. The Cardinals and Arizona play again tonight. KSMO will join the game in progress after Lady Tiger Volleyball.

The Cardinals activated outfielder Joe Mather from the 15-day disabled list prior to Monday's game.

David DeJesus went 4-for-4, drove in a run and scored twice in Kansas City's 6-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a three-game series. Alberto Callaspo extended his hitting streak to 16 games and scored twice for the Royals, who despite being in last place in the AL Central, have won nine of their last 11 contests. The Royals, who have finished in last place each of the previous four seasons, are a game behind fourth-place Detroit. Mike Aviles had two hits and a pair of RBI for Kansas City, while Gil Meche (13-11) was charged with four hits and two runs over six innings to pick up the victory.

Funeral services for Janet Kay Barnes of Salem, age 68, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Home Baptist Church Building Fund.

Interment for Pauline Elizabeth Dulworth of St. James, formerly of Cuba, age 88, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cuba Senior Center. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba.

Funeral services for Thomas Lee Fernandes Jr. of Salem, age 69, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Harmony Church.

Funeral services for Clarence Harnetz of Cuba, age 67, will be held Thursday at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Vienna City Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
