The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she signed off on another FEMA Project Worksheet totaling $2,505, bringing the total cost of work done for clean up and road repairs due to the May 8th storm to $110,427. At the meeting, the Commission set the date for their quarterly night meeting for Monday, October 5th at 7:00 pm. At the previous meeting, Dent County Assessor Brenda Bell came in to present her 2010 Map Maintenance agreement with Landmark Surveying for $575.00 and the Commission agreed to accept that agreement.  Bell also said the Assessor’s office would start their field review this week. The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday evening at the City Hall Council Chambers. Grant Hamlet from the Dent County Fire Protection District asked that since the fire district is non-profit, could the demand meter charge be removed from their bill. When it was discovered that the police department, city hall administration building, and sewer and water may also be on demand meters, Alderman McDaniels asked that this be postponed until more information is found out about all these entities. Mayor Gary Brown said that the city received no bids for salt for the winter this year and will be included on the state bid through MoDOT for 150 tons at $67.10 a ton coming to $10,065 from North American Salt. City of Salem Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs handed out brochures on Financial Management for Small Business seminars coming up in October at the Salem TCRC. Brown said that paving still needed to be done on three streets and the board approved to extend a previous bid so the work could be done quickly. He also said that an electric and tire recycling collection would be held on October 17th at 3rd and Grand from 9:00 until 1:00. Computers, cell phones, old CD players and other electronics could be recycled for free while computer monitors would cost $5 and TV’s would be $10. Tires will be collected for $1.50 a passenger tire, $5.00 for truck tires and $10 for tractor tires. He also said that the City of Salem would be in charge of the first two months of the sesquicentennial celebration, as they will present the origin of the City of Salem in January featuring a costume ball, and the history of Salem in February. He further said that the 4-H planted some trees down at the city park near the skateboard park to act as a sound buffer as they grow for the neighbors. The board then approved to give the mayor the authority to sign the petition for the voluntary annexation of Highway 72 and the right of way from the Highway 32-72 west intersection to Dent County Road 321 from MoDOT. After the bills were approved, the board went into closed session to discuss real estate.
