The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a stolen wedding ring, an active warrant and a fight. On Wednesday, September 7th at 3:46 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen wedding ring. Investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a wedding band valued at $168 from a residence in the 700 block of East Jack. On Friday, September 9th at 11:00 in the morning, an officer was sent to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department to take custody of a 34-year old male of Piedmont on an active warrant from the City of Salem. He was transported to the Dent County Sheriff’s Department where he was incarcerated on the warrant. Then at 3:30 that afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Salem Junior High School in reference to a fight. Investigation led to the detention of two female juveniles of Salem for disorderly conduct. They were released to their parents or guardians. The report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer for further review. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen wedding ring, which is still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department by calling 726-4242.

The Salem Police Department released their reports of thefts, shoplifting, disorderly conduct, domestic disturbance, and a runaway juvenile. On Sunday, September 11^th at 9:42 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that person or persons unknown took a laptop computer, a camera, and a GPS valued at $1,092.31 from a residence in the 700 block of North Pershing. Later that afternoon at 3:12, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to someone urinating in the parking lot. That investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct, damage to private property, and interference with a police officer. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. That evening at 5:36, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Jack in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 47-year old Salem female for assaulting a 54-year old male of Salem. She was incarcerated and issued a summons to appear in court. On Monday, September 12^th at 4:23 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a runaway juvenile. The investigation of the report revealed that a 15-year old male juvenile of Salem left school grounds and did not return. He was located three hours later and released to a guardian. The report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. On Tuesday, September 13^th at 1:15 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 26 year-old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued $26.21. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Anyone with information regarding the theft of the electrical equipment, which is still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The 48^th Annual Rose Holland Trout Derby will be held at Montauk State Park on Friday, September 30^th through Sunday, October 2^nd. “Reelin’ in a cure while doing what you love starts on Friday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm with the Cruise In Car Show, sponsored by the Current River Cruisers Club, trout bingo at 6:00 pm in the campground amphitheater and derby registration will be from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Then on Saturday derby fishing hours will be from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm and registration from 6:30 am to 9:00 pm. There will be free health screenings by the Salem Memorial District Hospital from 9:00 am to noon, the Country Store and Bake Sale from 9:00 to 4:30, Hike’s for your heart from 10:00 to 11:30 am and then from 1:30 to 3:00. There will be live entertainment from noon until 4:30 an auction at 5:00 and the “Know the Dark-Night Hike” starts at 7:30. Sunday derby fishing hours will be from 7:30 to 11:30 am and registration will be from 6:30 until 11:30 am. Prizes will be awarded at noon in front of the lodge for the men & women’s heaviest stringer, the kid’s heaviest stringer, the heaviest brown trout and tagged fish caught and registered. The Anglers and Friends of Montauk State Park sponsor the 48th Annual Rose Holland Trout Derby with all proceeds going to benefit the American Heart Association.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that Highway 32 in Iron County is being be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction while the contractor crews resurface the roadway. This section of road is located from Route KK near Bixby to Route 21 near Belleview. Weather permitting, the work will continue through Monday, October 31^st from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. The work zone will be marked with signs and warning devices. Motorists are urged to watch for workers near the highway and use extreme caution while traveling near the area. Cortney Putman had two hits and an RBI as the Salem Lady Tiger softball team beat Willow Springs 12-6. Salem received eight walks and got six hits as they move to 10-5 on the year. The Lady Tigers will play Monday’s make-up game with Dixon today at 4:30 in Salem.

The Salem Lady Tiger volleyball team lost to Ava in two straight games, 25-19 and 25-20. The Freshman and JV teams faired better as they both won in two straight games. The Freshman won 25-22 and 25-10 while the JV won 25-18 and 25-23. Salem plays at Houston Thursday.

Adron Chambers hit a pinch-hit bases-loaded triple as the playoff-seeking Cardinals scored six two-out runs in the seventh to upend the Mets, 11-6. St. Louis, which has won six of seven, is still 2 1/2 games back in the Wild Card as the Braves also won. Albert Pujols went 4-for-5 with two runs scored to offset Edwin Jackson's rough start. The Cardinals and Mets play again tonight with the pregame show starting at 6:40 on KSMO Radio.

Eric Hosmer finished 5-for-5 with a three-run homer, powering the Kansas City Royals to a 10-2 win over the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a two-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Salvador Perez and Melky Cabrera both collected three hits, with Perez matching Hosmer's three RBI. Luis Mendoza (1-0), making his season debut for the Royals after earning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year honors, gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits and walked three in seven innings. The Royals and Tigers play again tonight.

Evgeny Grachev scored twice, including an empty netter, while Matt D'Agostini added another goal as the St. Louis Blues defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-1, in the preseason opener for both teams. Brian Elliott saved 21-of-22 shots for the Blues.

Funeral services for Mabel Irene Warren of Salem, age 74, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Funeral services for Edna Pauline Landrigan of Springfield, age 69, will be held today at 2:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be tonight at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Lone Pine Piatt Cemtery in Shannon County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Timber Church in Timber.

Memorial services for Betty A. Hart of Salem, age 90, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Salem United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Salem United Methodist Church or the Dent County Museum.
