The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. Commissioner Gary Larson was not present so Road Supervisor Charles Malone was there for District 2. In the road report, Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2440, 2470, 5110, 5115, 5130, 5460 and 6220; and brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 5520. He also said that workers would be getting a load of oil for patching of chip and seal roads. Malone gave the road report for District 2 and said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2340, 3030, 5300 and 5310. He reported that a driveway pipe was going to be installed on Dent County Road 3040, and brush was going to be cut on Dent County Roads 3300 and 4290. Malone stated that one operator was hauling rock to the new building addition at the road and bridge department while another was using the backhoe there as well. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reminded the commissioners about the meeting to be held at the city hall auditorium tonight concerning elk in the Ozarks starting at 7:00. He said that he would be attending an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Executive Board meeting to review grant applications today. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that absentee voting will start today and the last day to register to vote will be October 6^th. At the last meeting, the commissioners met with Terry Tollefson with Centurylink about Enhanced 9-1-1. Tollefson said that the current 9-1-1 system in Dent County will network with Enhanced 9-1-1. Centurylink would have to charge a one-time installation fee to service the Salem exchange of $2,298 and there would also be an additional monthly fee of $583 above the current maintenance fee of $674.03 for a total of $1,431.03 every month. No decision was made by the commissioners at the meeting. Tollefson said he would have to work on the other exchanges that serve areas of Dent County to see how much adding them would cost the county to include them in the Enhanced 9-1-1 system. The commission did sign the 2011 Child Support Agreement at the last meeting before adjourning. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Board of Aldermen met for their regular meeting Monday evening at the city hall council chambers. The board approved a request from the Grace Community Church to close Water Street from Franklin Street to the end of their parking lot on October 15^th through the 17^th to celebrate the 75^th anniversary of the church. Under old business, the board approved to issue the mobile home permit to the R & C Family Mobile Home Park after the items the city listed to be corrected on their letter to the owners had been completed. City Engineer Bill Huffman did say that some vacant trailers in the park are still in need of repair. The board then postponed discussing the existing pole agreements and franchise fees. Mayor Gary Brown reported that the sales tax revenue for August was $100,293.95 and that was up $7,146.00 from the August 2009 amount. Park and Recreation Director Greg Nash reported that 250 children enrolled in the soccer program and teams will start practicing next week with games scheduled to begin October 9^th. He said that the swimming pool lost about $23,000 this past year as the average number of people attending the pool daily dropped from 127 two years ago to 72 this year. He also said that the National Park Service has officially approved the DNR grant for the soccer fields and the project needs to be completed by December 31, 2012. In the alderman reports, Alderman Jerry Randell asked that the board look into installing a speaker system in the council chambers so people can hear in the back of the room in lieu of laptop computers for the board. The mayor will look into it. Mayor Brown said a meeting would be held this morning about the storm water grant on Third Street around the housing area, and that the city wide yard sale is set for October 2^nd and spaces are available at the parking lot at the city administrative offices building. He stated that the headstones at the Cedar Grove Cemetery are being straightened, and he reported that he was impressed with the Bio-Mass operation that the board visited last week in Michigan as there were no odors or loud noises outside the plant. The board postponed approving Bill #3208 about the construction of a sidewalk on Route J until the labor costs to the city are estimated. The board approved the Fall Clean-Up Week for October 11^th through the 15^th, and approved the bills. The request to issue a liquor license for the Cozumel Mexican Restaurant died for a lack of a motion even though the restaurant has met all the city requirements as stated in the city ordinance. The state has issued them a temporary license good through November 22^nd. The meeting was then adjourned.
