The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting at the hospital library Thursday evening. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that the summary of operations for the month of August showed an excess of revenues over expenses of $65,412 for the month. Pryor gave the director of nursing report for the month and there were 767 emergency room visits, 184 ambulance runs, 22 surgeries, 361 clinical visits, 332 home health visits, 8,247 lab tests, 31 nuclear med scans, 1,154 radiological procedures, 35 MRI scans, 339 CT Scans, 116 dialysis procedures visits and 1,512 cardiopulmonary procedures were performed. Pryor then gave the Hospital Auxiliary report. The Auxiliary is working on these upcoming fundraisers: Bath and body Fundraiser next Wednesday, Books are Fun on November 9^th and the Holiday Home Tour on December 2nd. Pryor gave the Chief of Staff’s Report. The board approved the medical staff’s recommendation to accept the resignation of Dr. Michael Orosz. Dr. Lowell Fisher, a general surgeon, will join the Bond Clinic and hold a clinic at the hospital on the first and third Mondays beginning October 15^th. Pryor reported that beginning in October, KSMO will air a monthly call in show the morning following the regular board or director’s meeting, plus they will begin airing three-minute infomercials about the hospital on Wednesday mornings before the Civic Record and Friday’s before the Open Market. Pryor reported on an opportunity for the hospital to partner with the University of Missouri’s School of Medicine Telehealth program. This would give the hospital the ability to digitally link to all Missouri hospitals and community Health Centers together via a video conferencing network. Doctors and Specialists from the MU School of Medicine could see patients in Salem by video conferencing equipment. The equipment could also be used for meetings and educational programs. The cost of the equipment would be $9,050, with a yearly recurring charge of $10,881 for a dedicated T1 line and a one-time charge of $4,083 for the installation of the T1, bringing the total budget to $24,014.  A grant has been requested for this new program so there would be no cost to the hospital for the first year. The board approved Pryor signing the Memorandum of Agreement with the Missouri TeleHealth program. The board approved the budgeted purchase of a portable pulmonary function machine for the Cardiopulmonary department for $2,145 from Tri-Anim. They also approved the non-budgeted purchase of 3 wall mounted blood pressure units for $299 from Cardinal; an LCD Monitor for $655 from CDW-G; 4 desktop computers for $2,036 from CDW-G and a USB & PS switch for $533 from Global Computers. The board then went into closed session.

An accident occurred Wednesday evening at 5:49 in Crawford County on Riverside Road about a miles and a half west of Highway O. According to the highway patrol report, a 1986 Nissan driven by 22-year old James Forbus Jr. of Cook Station, failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree before coming to rest. Forbus suffered serious injury and was flown from the scene by Air Evac to St. Johns Hospital in Creve Coeur. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Nissan was totaled and towed from the scene by Miles and Sons Towing.

The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that roads are drying up making grading very limited, but grading would be done on Dent County Roads 421, 554, 628, 638, and 639.  Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 421 and a crew would be hauling gravel to the crusher. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune also reported that conditions are dry, but grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 406 and 448. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he would be attending an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management meeting Tuesday in St. James.  Commissioners Skiles and Simpson also said that they accompanied the Community Betterment Judges on their tour around Salem Wednesday afternoon. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that Military Personnel and overseas citizens can now absentee vote by going online to www.fvap.gov and your vote will be submitted to the county clerk. At the previous meeting, the Commission reviewed and signed the Rural Addressing Contract from Spatial Data Research. Tom Stehn from MODOT called the Commission and wanted an updated status on Route HH, Dent County Roads 609 and 321, and on the Standing Rock Bridge on Highway 19 South and the Dry Fork Bridge on Route NN. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Football Tigers will travel to Cabool tonight to face the Bulldogs in SCA play starting at 7:00. The Tigers are 0-3 on the year while the Bulldogs are 3-0. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 6:25 and Tiger Talk, and on-line starting at 6:55 at www.ksmoradio.com.

University of Missouri senior forward Kalen Grimes was dismissed from the team on Tuesday. The action comes after Grimes, who started 24 of Missouri's 30 games last season and averaged 7.0 points and 5.6 rebounds, was involved in an incident in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant on July 7 and subsequently charged with second-degree felony assault. It has been a tough month for the Tiger men's hoops squad. The program implemented a zero-tolerance policy after junior forward DeMarre Carroll was shot in the ankle during a disturbance outside a nightclub in Columbia on July 5.

The Missouri Football Tigers will host Illinois State tomorrow at 1:00 at Faurot Field. Missouri enters the game with a 3-0 record and ranked 25^th in the AP poll. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at noon.

The Houston Astros destroyed the St. Louis Cardinal pitching staff as they embarrassed the Red Birds last night, 18-1. The Cardinals have lost 13 of their last 15 and they will face the Astros again tonight, Saturday night and Sunday night. Zack Greinke threw eight innings of two-hit ball as the Kansas City Royals blanked the Chicago White Sox, 3-0, in the finale of a four-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Greinke (7-6) struck out a career-high 10 batters without a walk. Joakim Soriatossed a perfect ninth for his 17th save in 21 chances. Tony Pena Jr. had a pair of RBI, and Joey Gathright and John Buck had two hits apiece for the Royals, who won for just the fourth time in their last 15 games. The Royals will be in Detroit this weekend.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed wide receiver William Buchanon to the practice squad.

St. Louis Rams have signed cornerback Justin Phinisee and defensive end Eric Moore to the practice squad; released defensive tackle Keith Jackson from the practice squad.

Family and friends gathering for Charles Gustave Zorn of Bland formerly of Steelville, age 79, will be held Saturday at 1402 Highway A in Owensville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral of Steelville.
